I drive a 2006 Dodge Charger r/t with the 5. 7l hemi. It has the 19 gallon fuel tank in it. The tank is defective as it causes the car to stall soon after a fill up and usually it'll just stall anytime it chooses even in the middle of the road. This is a known issue and the NHTSA and Chrysler settled this earlier this year. Well, I called Chrysler corp. About this and they transferred the warranty into my name and asked me to have it towed to the dealership. After all that was done, I get a call from Dodge customer care and they tell me that there is no warranty on the car since it was originally registered and made for canada. This is a very stupid excuse to avoid repairing a problem they caused. They are refusing to repair their defect as per the terms they agreed to with the NHTSA. This vehicle is unsafe to drive as it stalls out at any time.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. Whether the vehicle was stationary or driving various speeds, it would stall when the fuel tank was filled. Perry Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram in san diego, California was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no complaints or failure codes regarding this issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred after the fuel tank was refueled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician informed that the vehicle was functioning as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000. Djr.
After fueling my 2006 Dodge Charger on the above stated date the car stalled after exiting the gas station. I restarted the car and proceeded through an intersection where it hesitated and stalled again. After restarting the second time there were no more issues with the car stalling that day. A day later there was an issue with being able to stop the car upon pressing on the brakes and coming to an intersection. Luckily the car was able to be clear the intersection and an accident was avoided at that time. A couple days later there was an issue with the car not being able to stop as needed again at an intersection. During the times where the car is unable to stop it seems as if the car decreases in acceleration and is uncontrollable at that time, after taking it to a local Dodge dealership I was informed that the fuel tank needs to be replaced, which is covered under Dodge extended warranty but it is unknown as to when the two needed parts would be in because the dealerships are on restriction with ordering the needed parts (2 parts are needed, one part can be order 1 every 7 days and the other 1 can be order 1 every 14 days). The only advice that I am being given is not to fill the gas tank all the way up, but these issues have occurred without the tank being completely full. I was given an estimated time frame of 4 to 6 months before the parts are available, which is totally unacceptable because I have to work daily. Dodge seems unwilling to accommodate consumers while this issue in being addressed, which is bad business. This is a huge safety issue and I do not feel safe driving my kids in a car that stalls at any given time.
This incident started occurring in September of 2014 but I always thought it was a "hiccup" and never really paid it any mind until it starting happening much more frequently. After I fill up my gas tank (I don't over fill) my car has intermittent engine stalls causing me to lose throttle response and my power steering. Sometimes the car has enough rpm to restart the motor but most of the time I have to shift to neutral and turn the key to restart. This is happening while driving down the interstate!! scares me to death. Now I have this stalling issue every single time I fill up. When slowing down is when the incident is most prevalent but even taking turns its happened and I lose power steering. This is a safety issue.
I learned about the fuel tank warranty and will be getting that repaired, but my issue is at 75 to 100% throttle my car will stall out. But my car starts back up on its own like nothing ever happened. When it stalls it throws you forward like the car is braking and then when it fires back up you can hit the throttle and it will go as normal.
In may 2014 I recieved a letter from Chrysler in regards to the faulty fuel tank in my 2006 Dodge Charger rt. They wrote to let me know that they are aware of a faulty fuel shut-off float in my gas tank that will cause the vehicle to stall. I called to schedule the repair and was told that Chrysler is only sending out one fuel tank per dealership per week and that I was 7th in line to have my work performed. So that meant that I would have to drive a vehicle that was continually cutting off for 2 months even before they would fix it. I called Chrysler to inquire why it would take so long to fix a problem that they know is causing numerous vehicles to cut off and they said that the parts are on backorder. I indicated to them that I had come close to having numerous accidents because my vehicle was stalling in traffic and yet they didnt seem to care one iota. After waiting 2 months for my time in line to come around I called the dealership to see when the work would be able to be done and was told that I was next in line but the part was still on backorder and could not have my vehicle fixed yet. They could not give me an estimate as to when they would be able to get the parts in. I find it very hard to fathom that a major automaker such as Chrysler/Dodge, knowing about a problem with their vehicles that are causing them to shut off in traffic and are not expediting the process of having those vehicles fixed. I have been very lucky thus far by not having a very serious accident due to my car stalling but I fear that someone else may not be so lucky and that someone is going to be seriously hurt. There are numerous vehicles like mine on the road with the same problem and its a shame that someone has to risk serious injury due to Chrysler's inability to do whats right.
We purchased a 2006 Dodge Charger 3. 5l from a local dealership with around 63,000 miles. They filled the tank up before we left. Other than the customary lap around town with the "new" car, I didn't drive it for two days. I drove the car 70 miles to another town for an appointment with no issues. When I went to leave my appointment, I started the car and attempted to back out of my parking spot. The car died as soon as I placed it in reverse. I put the car back in park, restarted and tried to shift to reverse again. The car died again and the check engine light was on. I attempted the same process again and it died yet again. I thought of revving the engine while reversing to get the car to move, but I didn't do it because of safety issues. I was blindly backing into a street and didn't want to get involved in an accident. My brother happens to work in the same town I was in. He came to help. I stood in the street to block traffic. He revved up the engine (two footed the brake and gas) and managed to back it into the street. The check engine light was still on. I two footed the car the 70 miles back to the dealership I had purchased it from. The dealership I purchased the car from sent it to a Dodge dealership. The dealership says that there is nothing wrong with my car and that they couldn't replicate the engine dying. They stated that I was driving with the parking/emergency brake on. I never use my parking brake (all my cars have been automatics). My parking brake was not on at any time. My brother stated the parking brake was not on. This is a major safety issue and I am not satisfied with how the dealership handled it. I could not drive my car out of a parking space. What if it had died in the road when I had to stop at lights or for other vehicles turning in front of me? I found similar complaints from other Dodge owners online. See investigation pe 13-016.
After fuel refill, motor will stall and die multiple times for up to the next mile of driving at any speed. This is dangerous. After online investigation I found this is a serious problem with many cars of this type. It is also, in my eyes, an extremely expensive repair as it will cost me nearly 1/4 of the price I paid for the car. Chrysler should stand behind there product, repair and replace the faulty tanks in all affected vehicles, not just the first unlucky few, who reported it first.
When entering an intersection and during a left turn, the engine failed rendering the power steering inoperable and reducing braking ability. Even though the car was controllable although with significant increase in required force. I almost went off the road as a result of the partial loss of control but managed to recover. Someone with less strength may not have been able to recover. In this case, non-recovery would have resulted in hitting an overpass. Chrysler is aware of this defect but has not classified it as a recall. It is classified as an extended warranty and requires the dealer to order a fuel tank and replace the one in the vehicle. Parts are now restricted and I was advised that they may not be available for months. This is not a convenience problem\, this is a safety issue that has the potential to cause major injury or death.
I have a 2006 Dodge Charger. It stalled 3 times on me, twice on the road and once in the drive way. I called Dodge and they said it should run if the gas tank is no full. I told them it was on 3/4 tank. I set up an appointment for July 7, 2014 and my husband went in. They ordered the part, it's called the fuel tank multifunction control valve. One week later Dodge of elk grove called and they were cancelling everyone's appointment's. I been without a car sense may 30, 2014. I've been contacting Dodge of elk grove and have been told that they can not get the part. I contacted Chrysler customer assistance center and was told that the dealers are getting 1 part every 14 days. I am afraid to drive the car because it might cause an accident that I don't want to be in control of or a part of.
Every time I fill up the car dies for about 5-10 miles every time I come to a stop. It looks like the roll over valve is faulty in the tank. I have heard rumors that this is an extended warranty period item. Is that correct?.
I feel that Chrysler is not honoring the agreement of extending the warranty on the fuel tanks as stated. Its been months and Chrysler either isn't going to warranty the tanks or they are being very selective on which tanks they consider defective. My VIN is not showing being covered by this warranty even though it meets all the qualifications. This is the message I received from the local Dodge/Chrysler dealership regarding my fuel tank issue on April 10, 2014: in checking on Chrysler¿¿s website, there is no listed extended coverage regarding your fuel tank pertaining to your particular vehicle at this time. Recall¿¿s are VIN specific and after checking yours on chryslers website it does not show any extended lifetime coverage regarding your vehicle in particular. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding this matter please feel free to contact Chrysler/Dodge at 1-800-423-6343. My original complaint regarding the issue with my 2006 Dodge Charger was filed: date complaint filed: 01/07/2014 component(s): fuel/propulsion system date of incident: 11/28/2013 NHTSA id number: 10558790.
Since 4-7-14 thru 7-16-14 the dealership has replaced two fuel tanks ( according to extended lifetime coverage letter dated may 8,2014), O2 sensor, transmission module, spark plugs, ignition coils and disconnected the remote starter. The car continues to stall and shutoff.
While driving on freeway, car died. Was able to start it back up again. Gas tank only 1/8 full. Got off freeway. Car continued to just shut off while driving on the streets, leaving me stuck in the intersection several times.
While driving on the interstate after work my vehicle stalled out and I lost control. I had to strong arm the steering wheel to get the vehicle to veer onto the emergency shoulder lane. Vehicles behind me slammed on their brakes and honked their horns trying to avoid hitting my vehicle. Prior to the event I filled my gas tank. After giving the vehicle a few minutes I tried to turn the ignition. After several tries the vehicle started. I was unable to accelerate over 35 mph and the vehicle shook and stalled the entire ride home. That was 3 weeks ago and the issue has worsened. My vehicle is stalling in mid-sections. It's shaking and along with the fuel light the engine light continuously dings. My code reads engine misfiring and fuel valve failures. The dealership was unable to pinpoint the issue and told me to research the issue under NHTSA. Org. I have almost caused several accidents and I do have a small child I must transport in this vehicle as well. It should not take a fatality for this issue to be resolved by the parties responsible.
2006 Dodge Charger this happened on three separate occasions. After a fill up at a gas station, the car would stall out, usually when just leaving the gas station. All three occasions, the stall out was right in the middle of the road turning on to. Luckily, everyone was paying attention and no wreck ensued. According to Dodge, the problem is some kind of gas valve failed causing the car to stall. Unfortunately, Dodge said the valve could not be replaced. The whole gas tank had to be replaced. Cost of approximately $2500. Safety problems as I see 1. Valve should not fail and cause a stall out. Danger of serious crash. 2. Design is deficient that you have to take the gas tank out and put a new one in to fix adefective valve. Milage is an estimate for the time of the last incident.
The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. The contact stated that while driving 2 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the dual fuel tank assembly was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 66,200 and the current mileage was 66,258.
Multiple times in the last month when I have refueled, the vehicle is difficult to start and then runs extremely rough and usually dies on the road once or twice. The engine seems to rumble and shakes the vehicle and then after a short period of driving it seems to go away. The engine light blinks on and off while this situation is happening. My mechanic has looked the problem over twice and cannot seem to determine what needs to be done to correct the problem. He has been in contact with Dodge/Chrysler and they indicate no other reported problems. The mechanic is still checking but seems to remember changing a fuel tank on a Charger in the past that was having an engine problem and it corrected the problem. He is rechecking his files to find that repair job. Last night my vehicle died twice in my driveway (with less than half a tank of gas) and I consider it unsafe to drive at this point. Anyone want to buy a used 2006 Charger (hemi)??? it will be sitting in my driveway. Tim r.
Pe13-016, this issue applies to my Charger r/t and anytime I fill up my gas tank the car will stall at any speed. I've had this happen at any speed from the low speeds mentioned to as high as 45 when I was accelerating and I had sloshed the gas tank. Anyway, I have talked with multiple Dodge dealerships and they have all told me that they have no idea what I'm talking about and that they have nothing in their system that would show them my car was affected. I feel that this is crazy and needs to be corrected. I have a car that will kill itself after any fillup and I can't get the manufacturer to own up to what they promised.
After I stop and fill my gas tank, my car will stall and shut off while driving. I was almost rear ended leaven the gas station because the car just shut off on me. This will only after I fill my gas tank to full.
My car stalls after refueling the tank. It does it at stops and slowing speeds. It has happened in the middle of turns etc. I t has almost caused me to crash. I went to my mechanic who in turn said I needed an entire fuel tank $1700. While debating on the having it fixed of course checking my finances. I went on line and seen numerous articles about this issue. In the articles you guys are mentioned for having done a federal probe into the situation and Chrysler extending a warranty on the problem to life time. Well then I went to the dealer and brought it to their attention and nobody knew anything about it. They charged me $65 to diagnose the car and proceeded to give me an estimate of $1900. They then gave me the number to Chrysler who in turn knew nothing of the problem and sent me on my way saying there is not a problem and no warranty. I need to know if in fact this is a legitimate claim by the NHTSA in the articles out there. Some of these articles are as recent as of February 2014. I have almost had two accidents from this issue. It has taken numerous scenarios to trouble shoot this and when reading the articles brought everything to light. Please help. The articles mention 2006 Chrysler 300,Dodge Charger, & Dodge magnum with v8 5. 7 & 6. 1liter engines. This is what I have.
Every time I fill up the gas tank the car it stalls and shuts off. This causes lost of steering and may start immediately after or take a few tries. I've had my son with me in the car when this happens and I am afraid that we might be rear ended or it may shut off and have no steering at a crucial turn or in a busy intersection. I saw that this website closed the investigation because Dodge (allegedly) was sending owners letters to fix the problem with an extended warranty starting in Jan. 2014. It is April 2014 and the problem is not listed in the Dodge website. Dealerships are not aware either. I just talked to Dodge and my car does not fall under this extended warranty. They basically told me they were not responsible if anything happens because of the problem. I hope they are not waiting on a fatality to actually do something about it. Dodge needs to be proactive and not reactive. I see complaint after complaint here about the same problem. Something needs to be done.
When fueling the vehicle the gas pump clicks off as if its full and I have to squeeze the pump handle again it puts out about 1/2 gallon at a time, I spend almost 30 minutes to fill my tank, when I called the dealer they knew exactly what I was talking about, and told me to be careful cause it can spit the gas back at you. I have a 2006 Dodge Charger sxt with 78,000 miles. This should be a recall cause, cause a lot of people was having this problem. Its caused by the fuel filler neck as per dealer.
Filled my tank at gas station, got back on the highway and the car stalled (at over 60mph). Car would restart w/out problem, but it happened several more times. It cleared up and I assumed it was bad gas (water, perhaps). Had company in town the next week. Same, filled tank, got on ih-35, and the car stalled on a flyover (much to the dismay of those driving behind me). I lost power steering/braking and almost ran into to wall (with 3 other people in the car). I found others who'd had similar trouble, and knew I couldn't afford the new tank. Recently, I saw that Dodge had extended the warranty on the tank; so I took it to the dealership where I get my maintenance done. They confirmed it was a fuel tank problem (the same others have had), but denied that the warranty would cover it. I called Dodge customer service, and they said the same. I know others have had this happen at low speeds, but both times it occurred going over 60mph for me, and I feel it is a safety hazard.
My 2006 Dodge Charger stalls after I fill up the gas tank. The check oil light will come on and the car shuts off. This happens after I come to a stop after the fill-up. Eventually it stops stalling.
Filled up fuel tank and let the nozzle click. Left the gas station, stopped at a light, car stalled. No indicator lights appeared. Restarted easily, and I was driving through the intersection, and at about 15mph, car stalled again and restarted quickly. I pulled off the road, sat for awhile with the car running with no further stalling. Contacted a mechanic, and was informed that a valve in the evap canister located within the gas tank will get stuck, allowing raw fuel to enter the system, giving a false reading to the ecm, indicating the car is running too rich, and will adjust, causing the car to stall. Had to replace the fuel tank(as the evap valve is integrated within the tank), and have had no further problems since. Seems to be a serious safety concern, since there is no indication that car is about to stall and no way to determine that you need to move to safety, especially if you were entering traffic onto a fast moving freeway.
I was leaving the gas station after I filled up the car with gasoline and the engine stalled. I placed the transmission in park and turned on the car in the middle of traffic, drove to the stop light and the car stalled again. The car kept stalling every time I would stop for the next three miles. The car ran fine until I topped off the fuel tank and then the car began stalling again. The car stalls at every stop for the next two to three miles every time that I top off the fuel tank. I cannot and have not topped off the fuel since then for fear that the car will stall and cause an accident.
2006 Dodge Charger r/t (close to 70k miles) failed to accelerate shortly after fuel tank was partially filled (3/4 of gas tank). Incident occurred when making a left turn on a 2 way/double lane city street. As I proceeded to make a left turn when a clear section of oncoming traffic was present, the vehicle suddenly stalled in the middle of the opposite "oncoming" traffic and failed to accelerate. In order to achieve proper acceleration, I had to restart the vehicle (while oncoming traffic was forced to stop, abruptly). Fortunately the incident did not involve any injuries nor fatalities. Therefore the reason why this safety complaint is being submitted. No previous signs of this issue was ever noticed, nor did it happened before.
I continue to have a problem with my car stalling after refueling. I know that NHTSA has been investigating this issue for a while (pe-13-016) and that they closed this investigation on Feb 10, 2014, after Chrysler agreed to provide a lifetime warranty on the multifunction control valve on fuel tank. I had been waiting to receive my letter, which supposedly began being mailed out in January 2014, so I could have this fixed. I talked to my dealership in March who said they knew nothing of the problem and they suggested calling Chrysler. I called Chrysler on April 4, 2014, and they said they are still investigating the problem and that I should just wait for the letter. I have had to deal with my car stalling out for nearly a year and when I thought it was nearly over, I was told to wait some more? why isn't Chrysler honoring their agreement with NHTSA?.
I refueled the gas tank with high octane gas, and while driving the short distance home, the engine stalled three times. This made braking difficult and scary, as I was in traffic. Each time it started back up, but left me very afraid of wrecking from possibly not being able to stop the car. The same problem occurred after refueling on 9/13/13 and 11/16/13 and 1/31/14. I reported the first incident that occurred on 4/28/13 on a separate complaint form (xref odi #10562746. As of this date (2/3/14) the mileage is 27,670. The low mileage is because I alternated between three vehicles.
On 5 or 6 occasions, when gas tank is full, my Charger stalls. On one occasion, it restarted easily only to stall again seconds later. Another occasion, stalled, restart, stalled, restart, stalled, restart. Another occasion, stalled and took several attempts to restart. Has stalled from sitting and idling , 10mph and 30 mph. Once it stalled as I was coming to stop at signal light and narrowly avoided rear ending car in front of me because was difficult to apply brake.
Filled gas tank and then approx 10 miles into my drive car chug chugged a couple times then stalled. At first car wouldn't restart but when I pressed gas pedal and turned key on next attempt it turned over. Drove short distance and stalled again. This happened again and again when I filled my tank to full. Eventually I found that if I did not fill tank to full I was ok.
After refueling of vehicle and driving from gas station vehicle stalls and hard to start. After researching this issue on the internet it appears this is a common issue with this make and model. Now when trying to refuel the vehicle the pump kicks off every few seconds, unable to refuel at a gas station at this point. Only way to refuel at this point is by using a five gallon gas can so that the air can escape the gas tank through the gas tank filler tube. Took the vehicle to the dealership and was told the check valve on the gas evap system is defective which is intergraded within the gas tank. Dealership told me they have seen this many times and the check valve cannot be replaced. To correct the problem a new gas tank will need to be installed at a cost of $1,350.
Most times, after refueling the car will stall while driving. It does not matter if the tank is empty or half full prior to refueling. The stalling will happen within the first 10 minutes after refueling. It does not happen any other time during vehilcle operation. The car has stalled while driving on highway, at intersections and during normal operation with no warning and potentially could have been very hazardous. I am aware of the situation and now wait for at least 10 minutes after refueling before leaving the gas station.
