Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I was driving right after filling up my gas tank I stop at a red light and I feel my car kick so I go the back way home as I slow down for a speed bump my car completely shuts off I've did some reading and this happens a lot with the 2006 Chargers a lot.

38 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

After filling up the gas tank vehicle was running, sitting in traffic. Engine stalled. Vehicle took a few minutes to restart as it sat in rush hour traffic. Research indicates this dangerous problem is common on this vehicle.

39 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2014

After filling up at gas station, car stalls in traffic when fuel is sucked into vapor recovery system. Dealer says fuel tank replacement is not covered by any recalls.

40 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

Car stalls after filling gas tank, at speed or idling. No codes or other indications.

41 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

Full tank fill for trip to florida from north carolina. Car stalled within in few blocks from gas station. Restart and stall several times. Let idle for awhile and noticed rpm's going up and down at idle. Finally got going and fueled with a full tank 2 times on way to florida, same problem each time. Contacted dealership in deland florida and was told I had a faulty fuel float and would have to replace fuel tank or I could wait until I got back to north carolina. They said if I only filled to 3/4 it should be fine. I did that and got back to north carolina. Took car to dealership in greensboro, north carolina. They were familiar with this problem. They did a diagnostic test by filling fuel tank and encountered the same problem. They contacted Chrysler for warranty. Chrysler denied it. I contacted Chrysler and got a case number. I talked to several people and was told they would call me back. None of them called back, so I had to make calls. They denied for reasons: VIN not covered, car built in wrong month, car has salvage title, not covered under x53 or Chrysler service bulletin #14-002-14 issued in February 2014. . I asked for a letter of denial. They refused. Said I could contact an attorney if I wanted a letter. The cost for this known problem will be $1,250. 00. I have had Dodge and Chrysler vehicles sine 1969. Not a way to treat a good customer.

42 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

After refilling the gas tank, the engine stalled several times with "bucking". The tank was not overfilled. After about 5 miles and several stalls, the condition went away and did not reoccur until I gassed up at a different station two weeks later. Again the tank was not overfilled. Internet search indicates that this is being investigated as pe13-016. Prior to this there has been no similar incidents. Others have had similar issues.

43 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

Vehicle jerks while driving as if something is starting to die or go out, then starts running again. Only appears to happen after filling the fuel tank to completely full. Vehicle will stall out within several feet after fueling up, then restart and you're good to go. You drive maybe an eighth of a mile and as you slow to a stop, the car will stall out and die again. Usually fine for the rest of the evening. Vehicle eventually shuts off when I come to a near stop or am stopped. Oil lamp light turns on when the car dies. Tried restarting twice, but was unsuccessful. Took the key out of the ignition, then waited a few minutes. Tried to start the engine again and was successful. It seems extremely unsafe to drive like this, but it seems I have to drive long enough to burn off some gas to keep the gas tank under full at all times to avoid this problem.

44 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

After filling up my gas tank and driving off the gas station lot onto a main road my car stalled and died almost causing the car behind me to run into the back of my car. My car continued to stall all the way home. It restarted after stalling but put me in a very dangerous position. I could not drive the car anywhere in fear that it would stall again. I had to pay to have it towed (money which I do not have) to a service station where they told me that there was a known issue of a fuel system problem. I called the car dealer and they did in fact acknowledge that there is a problem and the fuel tank will be replaced at no charge. I have now been waiting several months for a gas tank. The dealership has stated that they are not receiving any fuel tanks. I need my vehicle to get back and forth to school. I can not get a job because I have no transportation to and from. This is really put a hardship on me. I called another dealership only to find that they are having the same problem. Why are there no tanks being sent to the dealerships to fix this problem? I can not drive a car that puts my life in danger as well as the lives of others.

45 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

Filled vehicle with 10% ethanol 87 octane gasoline at self-service station on September 19, 2014. Drove away and vehicle stalled at first intersection. I put the vehicle in neutral and started it with no further problems until I filled tank again after about 250 miles. (I was driving a 1500 mile trip from one state to another. ) every time I refilled the tank, the vehicle would stall within a few hundred feet of filling station. This stalling has continued through yesterday, September 29, 2014, and I am concerned it will happen again when I refill the tank. If the vehicle stalls at the wrong time, someone could be seriously hurt or killed.

46 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

My car stalls out and turns off at a light or driving after filling the fuel tank.

47 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

While stopped at a traffic light, after having just left a gas station and filling the gas tank, the vehicle stalled. This has happened numerous times now at slow speeds as well. Does not occur every time, but does occur often and always within minutes of refueling.

48 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

My vehicle stalled several times after filling the tank. I then took it to my dealer to have it investigated. In reviewing the NHTSA website, I found that this has been already been investigated and Chrysler agreed to extend the warranty on "certain" hemi vehicles with a 19 gallon fuel tank. Investigation pe 13-016. Upon sharing this information with my dealer (Dodge of naperville), they indicated that my 2006 Dodge Charger with a hemi and 19 gallon tank was not covered under this recall and I would need to pay $1700 to have this repaired. They said if it was recalled at a later date, I could apply for reimbursement.

49 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

The engine died just after fuel fill-up when I was leaving the lot and getting onto the street. While filling the tank, the pump stopped as if the tank was full, but when I got in the car after fill-up, the gas gauge read only 3/4 full. When the engine died, there was traffic behind me and traffic ahead. I could have been in an accident or caused one. I shifted to neutral, and coasted and re-started the car. This is completely unacceptable. It is dangerous for me, for my family, for my wife when she is driving, as well as the motorists around me.

50 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

It is hard starting and will stall anywhere between 0 to 45 mph. When it starts rough it will not go forward or reverse without stalling. It seems to be worse after filling the gas tank. When the car stalls it does so with no warning and can leave you with no power steering or brakes. It did it off and on at first but now does almost every time I run it. I took it to a Dodge dealer and gave him a copy of the lifetime warranty gas tank problem and told him of the symptoms of the car. He ignored me and did 4 flashes on the car plus $110 of "cleanup" work on the car and told me it was fixed. On the way home it stalled in the middle of the highway while my wife was driving and she had no steering. The dealer paperwork said they pulled up 4 codes on the car's computer, which I got none of when I ran my code reader on it before taking it to them. One of the reported codes does not even show on the chart and another one was a "c" code for a chasse problem. Upon getting the car home, after stalling several times on the way home, I called the bank and stopped the payment for the work they say they did. I have another appointment with the dealer I bought the car from (farther away) but how do I get them to do the repair I want, not what they feel like doing? thanks.

51 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

Vehicle is stalling after filling up with gas. Occurs when idling (such as at a stoplight) or when decelerating at which it also loses the power steering. Highly concerned this will occur in the middle of a busy intersection. Can restart the car usually after two attempts. May go to the next light/stop and same incident will repeat itself. After driving the car for a few miles. . . (presumeably as the fuel level goes down). . . Car behaves as normal - without issue. Symptoms are very much like a bad tank of gas. Took car to the dealer and they were unable to diagnose the problem. Dealer ran diagnostic checks and no issues are reported. Dodge refuses to do anything until dealer can diagnose the problem. . 52 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2014

After filling up vehicle with gas car would quit running as I entered highway. Car shut off sitting at several traffic light. While attempting to get up to speed car was stalling. After about 30 miles of driving when gas ran out of tank car was fine. Refueled yesterday and same problem issue is defective gas tank and with numerous complaints Chrysler has not done a recall to fix vehicles.

53 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

After filling the gas tank up, I left the gas station and the car stalled out 7 times. This continues to happen every time I fill the tank up. The steering also goes out. The car has a hard time starting back up once it happens. It happened on the highway also.

54 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2014

Like a number of others in the database we had just filled the gas tank and driven a few miles. After stopping for a traffic light we attempted to accelerate through the intersection after the light turned green. We just cleared the intersection when the car bucked several times and the engine died. We pulled off to the side of the road and attempted to start the car. After several tries the car started up, idled ok, and we proceeded on. The next time we filled up the car the same thing happened. After doing some research on the internet we found the description of the problem as liquid gas getting into the fuel vent line when the gas tank was filled. We subsequently got gas twice without totally filling the tank and had no problems. The internet site we found indicated that the problem could be either the purge solenoid valve or a valve integral to the gas tank. Since the purge solenoid valve was the cheaper fix we tried that first. That fix was not successful as the car stalled after being filled up. We replaced the gas tank yesterday, filled the gas tank, and had no stalling or hesitation. So, it appears that the problem is fixed. However, I could envision a number of situations where one could be in a life-threatening situation if the car died in the middle of an intersection or in heavy traffic on the interstate. Since this appears to be a well-known problem I don't understand why there has not been a recall.

55 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

Filled up gas tank, and after leaving the gas station and turning on to exit ramp the car stalled out, and I lost control of the steering. After a few attempts to restart the car started, but stalled multiple times until the fuel level dropped to about 3/4 full. I experienced this same problem a few days later after filling up again. I did some research online and found numerous Charger owners experiencing the same issue. I stooped filling up and only fill to about 3/4 full and I haven't experienced the issue again. Today I came across a report on the warranty extension concerning this issue (pe13-016). I called Chrysler and was told my vehicle was not included in the warranty extension. I am highly upset and annoyed by this total lack of regard for human life!.

56 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2014

Car will stall while decellerating on freeway after filling up the car. Even though this is an issue that is known with Chrysler and they have extended the tank warranty to lifetime under nvs-213krh; pe13-106 they are still not communicating to the dealers that this issue exists and what the proper fix is. I also can not get them to confirm or deny that my VIN is part of the group of cars that this problem pertains to, however I had the same exact symptoms as all other drives with the car stopping after refuleing the system. The dealership tries to blame the customer for 'over-fueling' but I find it ridiculous that you can not fill your engine to full ( 7/8 or above) without this issue happening. When you bring it to the dealership they show raw fule in the cannister and want to trouble shoot it as a customer error. So far this issue has cost me $2500 (tank, labor, rental, 2 canisters now) to fix on my own and Chrysler and the dealership are of no help.

57 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

After filling the car with gas (full tank), and leving the station, the car shuts completely off.

58 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Immediately after fueling vehicle to regular capacity and automatic shutoff - no "topping off". Left the filling station and the car stalled several times, each time in a precarious position such as decelerating to make a turn or coming to a stop at a light. Car dies losing power steering and breaks. Thought this might be bad gas but it has since repeated every time the car is refueled. This is becoming a serious safely concern as the condition is common during the first 50 or so miles of driving after a fill up. Upon speaking with the dealer they blamed the issue on the end user overfilling the tank. As the only user of the vehicle it is never overfilled nor “topped off”.

59 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2013

After filling the fuel tank, the car will suddenly stall while driving on the road within 5 miles of fueling up. This can be very dangerous if I am turning and another vehicle is coming at me. I lose all power steering. To start it again I have to either come to a complete stop and put the car in park, or I have to put it in neutral and turn the key while moving. This can be very dangerous under several situations.

60 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2013

11/16/13 I had just filled up my gas tank on i95 at ladysmith, va and was coming down the ramp northbound when the engine sputtered and stalled just as I merged onto the highway. I pulled over after getting blasted by truckers horns for making them slam on brakes. After a couple attempts it restarted and I took off again, only to have it stall again. It did this three more times before it finally started and did not stall. Since it didn't happen again, I figured I just got some bad gas. Then it happened the next time I filled up. And the next. And the next. I checked on-line and found several others who had experienced this and they said it was the gas being filled to the brim that caused it. I tried filling up less than a full tank and this did seem to work. Only problem is I now want to sell or trade in the car and I don't feel right passing this problem along to someone else. I saw the article about NHTSA forcing Chrysler to extend the warranty on 2006 hemi Chargers and took it to the dealer only to be told they know nothing about this and would fix the problem for $1100. Why hasn't Chrysler set up a program for these replacements? is there a list of the vehicles that are covered by the new extended warranty? can I please see if my car is on it and if not why not?.

61 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

After filling the gas tank, the car stalled. Numerous attempts to get the car started failed. Car would try to start, but would not catch. After sitting overnight, car would start. Numerous times after filling, the car would chug and lose power or kill all together.

62 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

Shortly after filling up the gas tank the car stalled repeatedly when stopping.

63 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

After filling my tank I drove away from the station and my car shut off while driving down the road. It took a few attempts before my vehicle actually started again. I drove down the road towards my house and it stalled on me again. This time I was a little faster to turn on the vehicle but it stuttered all the way home. This happens every time I fill my tank. To be sure of the issue I ran my gas tank to half tank and refilled it. The same stalling outcome was present. I recently took my car in for repair of this issue but after the repair it continued with the stalling. After this happened to me on Monday March 18, 2014 while my children were in the vehicle I decided to go back and get it looked at again by the dealer. My car is currently (March 19, 2014) at the dealer for the second time to try and get this issue fixed. I see on your website that NHTSA action number : pe13016 has been filed for this identical issue that I am having. I called Chrysler to see if they would give me the letter to owner for extended warranty on the gas tank and I was told that I could not get it because my car does not have this issue, yet my car is at the dealer right now getting this same issue fixed. As usual I feel that Chrysler is trying to ignore the issue and not give support to those who have purchased their product. My dealer has been helpful but they said they could not cover me under this extended warranty unless it appeared with my VIN # in the Chrysler system. This issue is very dangerous especially if you are fueling up near a highway and then getting onto the highway. While Chrysler claims that this is low risk to motor vehicle safety it is high risk to human safety. We can replace cars, we can not replace people. All I ask for is reimbursement for a manufacture defect or an extended warranty.

64 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

I have had this issue happen about five times. After filling up my car with gas (I do not overfill), I notice that my car will all of the sudden turn off. This has happened in the middle of an intersection and on the highway. I feel very anxious and scared when I drive now because of this issue. After discovering online that many other 2006 Dodge Chargers have experienced the same issue, I am hoping there is an honest solution out there. Chrysler/Dodge have not responded to any of my correspondence, with the exception of an automated response. From here on out, I will be forced to only fill my car with half a tank of gas. Please advise if any other information/description is needed. Hope to see some action soon. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

65 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

This has happened many times. After filling the vehicle with a full tank, shortly afterwards car will stall without warning. Sometimes as I exit the fuel station, other times it's 10 minutes later when I'm on the road. Several times when driving it'll buck, stall and then start back up as it's coasting. Most of the time it'll stall at a traffic light. When it stalls, it'll start back up, but there's a computer-related delay that prevents the car from going into gear for about 10-20 seconds. . . Which seems like an eternity when you're stuck in the middle of an intersection. I've had some very close calls due to this, have learned not to trust the car, and have now learned not to fill it up fully. Note this can happen when it's anything over 3/4 full. I've had the car since new, it's well maintained, and now has 102k miles. The stalling problem is the only safely related issue that I've had.

66 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Car stalls out after filling up the tank. It also is dying and cranking back up at 40 mph and a couple of times on the freeway doing 80 mph. Also just sitting at a red light with a half of tank of gas and car just dies. Have to put it in park to restart it.

67 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2013

After fueling vehicle, the engine died within half mile on road. Put car in neutral to start engine, drove another 1-2 miles where car stalled and died again. Has happened after filling up car and only with full tank, stalling occurs within 0-15 miles, then does not stall. Have read several posting and discussions about this issue with same model/year cars. Heard about possible investigation for faulty fuel/vapor separator valve with cuts off fuel to engine and causes engine to stall. Had this happened to a driver who did not know how to react properly, or had a distracted driver not see my car stalled or stopped, this could have resulted in a serious problem. I had no power steering or power brakes and was not able to immediately restart vehicle in traffic, after momentary loss of power and finally able to restart the engine was I able to maneuver off the roadway safely.

68 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2013

I had just filled the gas tank and when I made a turn the engine died while I was turning. I put the car into neutral and attempted to start the car a few times and it finally started. When the engine failed the power steering was disabled and it made me almost hit another car who had to adjust his route so I would not have a collision with him. There is a strong odor of gas as well. I have had this problem before after filling the gas tank with the motor dying at a stop light. The check oil light comes on but not the check engine light. The motor only fails when I fill the gas tank more than 3/4 full. I have had a problem with the car cutting off after filling the tank completely for several years. To avoid this dangerous scenario I have had to estimate the gas remaining to adjust filling to about 3/4 of a tank. I understand after reading Dodge blogs that there is a very expensive fix for this by replacing the gas tank. I should not have to be in a position to only fill my tank 3/4 full to avoid a possible accident. This is clearly a defect that the manufacture is aware of after reading the hundreds if not thousands of complaints about this.

69 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2013

I was coming to a stop at a red light. The car began to shake like it was a manual transmission and was stalling, the car is an automatic. We stopped at the stop light and realized the engine had shut off. I put the vehicle in park, removed the key, and attempted to restart. It attempted 3-4 times to restart with no luck. I exited the vehicle to endure the gas cap was on and it was. After waiting for about 1-2 minutes I attempted to restart and was successful. This was about 2 miles after filling up the tank. This seems very similar to the currently pending investigation. It has not happened since but I have not filled up the gas tank since either.

70 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

Just after filling the tank and merging on to the major deegan expressway (I-87n) car dead stalled in the highway, causing to vehicles behind me to slam on their brakes to avoid an accident. It took me ten minutes to get my car restarted. Engine would turn over but not remain on. But after ten minutes of trying this, car remained on and I was able to drive it home. I thought that I had been given some bad gas, until the incident repeated itself again after a fill up seven days ago at a gas station near my home. The owner there says he has seen a similar problem with other Chargers after fill up. I then called Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997 (tami/cami?) and Chrysler claimed they have never heard of this problem before and that I will have to take my car to the dealer and have it repaired at my own cost, but if they've never heard of any problem like this before then how do they know the dealer will know how to repair it?.
