Four problems related to ball joint have been reported for the 2002 Dodge Dakota. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The consumer was upset that after the recall work was done the dealer recommended a full alignment, but Chrysler will only pay for one third. Specially, Chrysler will only pay for the tow in adjustment, after ball joint replacement. The recall was 04v596000. The tow in adjustment was not affected as much as the other camber and caster. The recall work was done on the truck. The owner was looking at a charge of about $60. 00 that should be covered by the recall. The vehicle would have control issues without the alignment, which would be the owner's expense.
1. Preparing to drive from California to north carolina ib 2002 Dodge Dakota quad cab 2wd. Having tires replaced and front end alignment. Front end ball joint and assy needed to be replaced due to extreme wear. Mechanic stated I was lucky the wheels didn't fall off. Had front end ball assy replaced.

I have a 2002 Dodge dokota sxt 2wd that has a clunking sound similar to that which I have heard described in regard to a front ball joint problem. I have spoking with other persons who also have 2wd Dakotas and have hed to replace the ball joints well before they should be. I currently have 43,00 miles on the vehicle but the clunk has been present for several thousand miles and I was hoping there might be a recall before I have it fixed. I have no ride or handleing problems but just the clunk when I go over an object or onto a sidewalk to park.
