Dashboard Crack Problems of Dodge Dakota - part 1

I have 2002 Dodge ram 1500 with a cracked dash which is bad the cracks started out small and now there are several. In the event of an airbag deployment what is to stop this dash from separating and causing life threatening injuries. Dodge needs to recognize this as a major safety concern and recall for replacement.

Went out to use my truck this afternoon, and noticed my dashboard had two large cracks completely through the plastic, the cracks go from the windshield and wrap all the around to the glove box. Each crack is on either end of the glove box. . .

After several years of dash cracking, the dash cap finally gave up after hitting small bump on the road. Several pieces hit passengers face. Nothing serious happened but enough to conclude that it posses a safety thread and dash board should be replaced by Dodge.

Dash board has multiple cracks and has sunken in.

Plastic dashboard has cracked in two places leaving sharp uneven edges sticking up. I can't use the vehicle to transport my grandchildren because I fear they will touch the area and get cut. According to 3 employees of the local Dodge dealer they are still using this defective part if it is replaced. . . Sad!.

We bought a 2003 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab truck and the dash board has cracked in 6 different places and I talked with other people with the same problem so it's a factory defect Dodge is at fault and should have to recall and fix the problem.

Dashboard crackin I know other 01 rams doing the same thing this is safety concern as could prematurely deploy airbags. . . Dodge needs to recalls this issue.

I own a 2002 Dodge ram 1500. The dash is cracking. Searching online I have found I am not the only one with problem. I also have a problem with my airbag light going on and off. My truck has been garage kept since I bought it and only has 76,000 mile on it. I think this issue needs to be looked into with a recall since I see so many problems observed online with this year of truck. I am afraid that with wiring under the dash it might pose a safety problem. My airbag light did not start going on and off until I noticed by dash cracked.

I just purchased a 2002 Dodge 1500 quad cab and about a week after I bought it the dash has cracked in 3 different places from windshield to front of dash. I was cleaning the dash and did not see one of the cracks and cut my hand on it. They have very sharp edges on them. At this time I have not repaired it.

Driving down the road and hit a pothole. The dashboard cracked in several places and part of the vent fell down.

Just found a cracked dash on the passenger side close to the air bag in my 2003 Dodge ram. Same thing happened to my 1999 ram and got worse. I am concerned this could be a safety problem with electronics and airbags.

I have a 2002 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4x4, very well maintained and was never abused. About 8 months ago I noticed a crack on the dashboard on the passenger side. Within several months one crack had grown to 6 cracks. Then about 1 month ago the air would not flow through the dash vents anymore. In order to find out the problem I had to remove the dash board to get the heat and air system. When I removed the dash board it crumbled into about 20 pcs. Upon inspection of the air problem I found out the blend door that controls the air to the dash was broken. Seems this is a problem. I am now having to replace the dashboard, front and rear pc and the 4 blend doors in the air system. While replacing the shocks I noticed the rack and pinion was leaking extremely bad which has never leaked before. No noise while turning the steering wheel, no warning light to advise of the problem.

I own a '02 Dodge ram 1500 quad cab. Dash is cracking while driving, once I hit a pot hole, a piece flew off and hit me in the face. I was lucky that no one was traveling from the other direction. I could have been in a head on collision because I jerk the wheel to the left when the piece hit me under my right eye. I am concern that this is a safety hazard than a cosmetic problem. I bought a dash cover so I would not get hit again, but the weight seems to have accelerated the cracking. The dash part cost over $700 and is made of the same material and the process will repeat. This is a safety issue!! please look into this problem, thank you.

Purchased a new 2001 Dodge ram quad cab. Dash and bezel started cracking after purchase and has now completely busted up. Having to have replaced at the cost of $1500 for new dash, bezel, and labor.

The contact owns a 2002 Dodge ram 3500 quad. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracking from the windshield to the molding. The contact was cut on the finger when the dashboard caved in and he attempted to pull it back out. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the dashboard would be replaced at his expense. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current mileage was approximately 160,000. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Cracks are not just superficial but rather completely through the dashboard structure and therefore should be considered a safety hazard to occupants. Pieces of the dash could become projectiles in the event of an emergency stop or if involved in a collision. There is no substructure to stop pieces of the dash from falling into the interior workings of the cab and perhaps causing instrument failure, fires etc. This default needs to be addressed before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Dash is cracking in several places dropping parts of dashboard into fan motor to overheat causing interference with air conditioner operation.

My dashboard started cracking up and large shards of the plastic became airborne while driving the vehicle and struck me in the face . This is definitely a safety issue in my opinion and I have a $50000. 00 driveway ornament as I do not feel safe driving the vehicle anymore.

The dash in my 2003 Dodge ram is cracked and crumbling. You can break off chunks with 2 fingers. Its that brittle. Now that I searched for the problem I have found many people that have the same problem.

Our 2003 Dodge ram 1500 dash started cracking and caving in nearly a year ago. As time goes by cracks worsen as well as new cracks have appeared. Plastic dash pieces are falling behind (into) dash board and coming out sometimes in the floorboard. Concerned about air bag safety. Would have to replace entire dashboard in order for the problem to be fixed. Our daughter owns the same year Dodge truck and hers is doing the same thing. Also, our steering wheel makes cracking, popping sound when turning. And the ball joints have been reported to be bad.

Back in 2009 my dash one day just cracked. . . . And has progressively gotten worse. I didn't know it was such a huge Dodge again.

The dash on my 2001 Dodge ram 1500 started to crack about eight months ago. It began as a small crack near the defroster area on the passenger side and grew to about eight inches toward the front of the dash. A second crack began within the last couple months and also grew to about eight inches. This time much more rapidly. I use my truck only for short trips to work and back and rarely take passengers. Nothing is, or has ever been, stored on the dash, yet it continues to crack. I have read about 50 complaints on the same issue for this model year vehicle. I too share the concern that continued cracking of the dash with pieces caving in will negatively impact electrical connections under the dash and possible even prevent the passengers side airbag from properly deploying in the event of an accident.

My 2001 Dodge ram quad cab 1500 4x4 has entire dashboard cracking up and falling into the instrument area under the dash. This is exposing the light sensors, air bag controls and other safety features to harmful sun exposure. I see that several thousand costumers have had this same problem and neither the company or the government are doing anything to correct the problem.

2001 Dodge quad 3/4 ton v10 - dash cracked in one place on passenger side - later dash caved in leaving huge hole. We purchased a dash cap at the cost of $130. 00 to correct the problem as we could not drive around with a big hole in the dash right above a/c vents.

The dashboard is cracking starting at the defroster vent and continuing on the passenger side to the air bag compartment. Only 60,000 miles on the vehicle and has been well maintained. Dealer claims there is no remedy with Dodge and I will have to pay to install new dashboard. This is definitely a safety hazard if the air bag were to deploy as shape pieces of loose plastic have the potential to harm passengers.
