36 Equipment problem of the 2006 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 03/16/2015

Back on 1/14/2015 I brought my 2006 Dodge Dakota to a dealership for replacement of rusted brake lines. About two months later, at 45k mi. , my driver side seat belt indicator light started to flicker on start-up. Shortly thereafter it would remain lit after start-up. I waited to request re-servicing my vehicle, only to find out the air bags were on recall. Therefore, I waited until I was given the call to bring my vehicle in for air bag replacement. The date for servicing was 10/30/2015. Upon completion of the ai bag replacement I was told my new air bags would not deploy nor does the horn work. This would require an additional $600. 00. The cause of this safety failure was due to a defective clockspring unit. My question is at under 50kmi. Is it normal for this safety component to fail and is this a constant in other vehicles? it seems to me that placing faulty safety related equipment in vehicles only increases profit margins, over and above the normal maintenance expenses.

37 Equipment problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

The 2005 Dakota began showing a service light on the dashboard instrument panel, indicating to service the 4-wheel drive system. Service light was intermittent but frequent, and continues today!. Four wheel drive gears would engage and disengage on there own, and the 4-wheel drive selector switch proved useless to disengage the 4-wheel drive upon choosing the various settings. Upon turning off the vehicle and exiting with the vehicle in park, the transfer case can be heard attempting to engage the 4-wheel drive gears, even with the key in the off position and after a number of seconds have passed. This would prove very hazardous if the vehicle self-engaged into 4-wheel drive at highway speeds, especially if it occurred and engaged the "lo-4-wheel drive" function, which would likely cause loss of control/steering and possibly damage to the rear chunk/differential resulting in highway debris. I see and read many instances from consumers on the internet about this problem in Dodge 4-wheel drive products from 2001 thru 2009, and it is supposedly caused by an electrical mechanism called the tccm or ipm (dependent upon your model) and which purportedly controls the transfer case motor that engages the 4-wheel drive.

38 Equipment problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

I was driving in a small neighborhood and I hear a very distinct ticking noise coming from the front passenger side, after I looked at the area I noticed that the exhaust manifold bolts and heat shield were broke . This can cause exhaust fumes to come into the car while driving and should be taken care of.

39 Equipment problem of the 2011 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/16/2014

I was going 60mph when the vehicle just went out of control for no unknown reason. I slide across the median and hit a loaded tractor/trailer head-on. It took the jaws of life to get me out of the truck. I suffered 8 broken ribs, a broken leg, broken jaw and a laceration under my chin. This is a very dangerous vehicle that should be taken off the road before it causes loss of life. It almost cost me my life and after 3 months I am still recuperating from the result of this accident.

43 Equipment problem of the 2011 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/29/2014

The blower motor resistor connector on the 2001 Dodge Dakota's are overheating and melting the connectors, this is causing a potential fire hazard. If you do a search online you will see hundreds of people talking about this problem. All the auto parts stores have these in stock because it is a known problem. I have had to replace my blower motor resistor 4 times in the last 3 years and wiring 2 times because of this problem. Dodge even seems to know about this problem with the blower motor maybe drawing to many amps, but when you contact them they just say the vehicle is out of warranty.

44 Equipment problem of the 2006 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Purchase this vehicle one year ago this month, as we were leaving the dealer ship, we noticed a small squeak, really didn't think anything of it, 6 months later the squeak is louder. When back to the dealership and was told, not to worry about it, it was nothing. On June 12th when to get it inspected, and guess what it failed, reason, the front balljoints are no good. I suspect that this dealership knew they were bad when they sold it, now being on a limited income, I can't get it fixed and still have to make payments on it. What can be done about this, this vehicle was only driven during the winter months, since it was a 4x4.

45 Equipment problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

I am a tall driver standing 6'9" even with the seat all the way down and all the way back. After inheriting the 2005 Dodge Dakota sxt quad cab pickup truck from my step father that pasted away in October of 2013. I was driving along and my right knee hit the key while in the on position knocking into the auxiliary position turning the truck almost completely off. All the check engine lights came on the ac shut off turned over to heat and started getting very hot inside the truck. We when to the local Dodge dealer they hooked up of a machine that gave them a code that said our computer was out of factory spec's. The guy said if we wanted it to be looked at to be diagnost. We would have to pay $198. 00 to have them Sep up an appointment for us to bring it in and put it on the "big computer" and if the computer in the truck can be restored to factory spec's that would be done with t the $198. 00. The same guy said if they can't get it back to factory spec's and we need a new brain computer for our truck which my step father purchased new in 2005 from a different dealer. The guy said the new computer would cost us $2000. 00 since this first incident it has happened four other times with the same thing happening each time. I am disabled and can't afford this headache off these issues.

46 Equipment problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

The shifter lever came loose from its mounting. Either the roll pin worked up and out of position or the roll pin was not installed correctly at assembly. The transmission would not go easily into the " park " position allowing the truck to roll backwards on the driveway. Also, the transmission would not shift into into " drive " . The problem on my truck has been fixed.

47 Equipment problem of the 2010 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Rolling slowly through a parking lot, the truck lunged forward, the transmission slipped into neutral and the engine began to over rev wildly up and down. (my foot was on the brake at this point. Earlier this year it did it on the freeway ramp as I attempted to merge into traffic. I took the truck to the dealer and they said there was a bulletin about the transmission and they reprogrammed the computer. The problem has not been resolved.

48 Equipment problem of the 2006 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

Rear doors wont open when using handles on club cab. Cables wont release mechanism and may be safety hazard in such cases of an accident or vehicle fire trapping person or persons in the rear cab area.

49 Equipment problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

Spare tire fell off vehicle while vehicle was in motion. No redundancy in the mechanism that holds the spare tire in place. Metal clip that fits in the center bore of the wheel is the only thing holding the spare tire in place. In the case of my vehicle the clip had rusted and failed allowing the spare tire to fall off the vehicle. If this had occurred on a busy road at speed it could have been very dangerous.

51 Equipment problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota. When new, I installed a curt manufacturing tow hitch. I take great care of my vehicles. I tow only on rare occasions, probably 6-10 days a year. Recently, I noticed extreme corrosion on the side supports and main tube of the tow hitch. I have no other corrosion of this sort on my vehicle. The sides seem to be corroding in sheets (steel) as if it was a plywood. It is totally unsafe to tow anything while it is in this condition. It needs to be replaced. Curt has a lifetime warrantee. I contacted them and sent pictures. I believe it may be inferior steel or coating from factory. Anyways, they denied my claim. I wanted a replacement. I have original receipt and instructions. I am concerned that others my have this, and if not addressed could lead to a catastrophic towing accident as everything towed connects only to this accessory.

52 Equipment problem of the 2009 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 11/18/2009

A/c drain tube had not been able to drain since owning the vehicle since November 2009, due to a flawed design, henceforth I was ill every time I drove the vehicle with the a/c on. This last ill driven 1 hour and 30 minute day, 7 July 2017, I was terribly nausea, extreme headaches and exhaustion lasting through to 9 July 2017. Had it been a longer drive, I am sure I would have had an accident as I struggled to drive home and put myself into bed. This flawed design was repaired, as all vehicles should be inspected for the safe and welfare of the drivers and passengers.

55 Equipment problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 07/22/2003

While entering the driver side of the vehicle using the a-pillar grab handle assembly, the entire assembly broke free from the vehicle structure. I fell backwards onto the pavement injuring my back and left shoulder. My head missed striking a concrete curb by mere inches. This failure constitutes a serious safety condition with a strong possibility of personal injury. This is also a latent defect that is unable to be detected by the consumer until the component fails. My injuries resulted in two lost-work days, but could have been fatal if my head had struck the concrete curbing mentioned previously. This safety condition affects both the driver and passenger a-pillar and b-pillar grab handle assemblies (if quad cab) in all Dodge ram series trucks. An inspection of the component showed that the assembly is held to the vehicle structure with two 8mm bolts. The bolts had pulled-through the plastic material of the assembly. There is no metal sub-structure within the handle assembly to prevent bolt pull-through from occurring. It seems unconscionable that a manufacturer would design a component to be used as a occupant weight bearing device without insuring that the component is designed to withstand the loads likely to be placed upon it. Best practices for grab handles should always incorporate a metal sub-structure into their design. On a side note, my dealer informed me that the replacement component is on national back-order with every parts depot having fifteen or more parts on order. This would indicate that the problem is wide spread, and requires immediate corrective action.

57 Equipment problem of the 1998 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/23/1999

Dodge incorrectly or falsely advertised and informed prospective purchasers of the Dakota r/t that the towing capacity was 6400#. Over one year after purchase, they sent a simple form letter stating that the safe capacity was actually 2000#. In spite of this, their website and product information still indicates the capacity to be either 6400# or over 8000# depending on the source. While continuing to deceive new customers, they also are stonewalling current owners who are attempting to individually deal with Dodge regarding corrective action, buybacks, etc. I am aware of at least one reported accident in new mexico attributable to the incorrect critical information not being disclosed to owners and dealt with by daimler Chrysler corp.

62 Equipment problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

The consumer experienced problems with (possibly)the ball joints. While he is driving there is a clunking sound that gets worse when turning on curves. The dealer has been contacted and stated that this is a common problem with this model and is unable to help. Ts other problems are as followed: the vehicle will slide/skate over any bump/uneven surface and corner, noise in front end/passenger side front wheel/passenger side window, the engine light was on-found evap leak, bad gas cap, rear brake drums are hopping, abs light on, internal mail relay and valve plug shorted, and front inner brake pad spring clips bent out of shape. The consumer requests the following: refund of the purchase of the vehicle, lessen the bank payments for the time of use, and apply a refund towards the purchase of a new Dodge ram. Scc.
