1 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 11/24/2024

I was going to work and the transmission started slipping when I had cruise control on, and then when I got to a stop light my truck started revving and wouldn't move. When I put it in neutral it wouldn't roll either. It just kept on revving and screeching. So I out back into drive and it jerks. Also my trucks rear end locked up and wouldn't roll in neutral while the truck is on. You have to keep the truck off and then put it into neutral to roll it.

3 Service Brakes problem of the 2009 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/22/2021

After starting the Dakota, I pushed on the brake pedal so I could put the automatic transmission in drive. My foot went all the way to the floor. I tried again with the same result. I checked the brake fluid reservoir. It was a bit low, but not empty. When the tow truck arrived to haul it away, I noticed a pool of brake fluid on the driveway approximately below the master cylinder. It is clear the brake system experience a catastrophic failure. I will know more when my mechanic reports what he has found. He suspects corrosion on the brake line. No one was hurt and there was no property damage because I did not put the truck in gear.

8 Service Brakes problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

Computer control of headlights, interior and dash lighting, and possibly the abs system and the intermittent wiper control are affected. Without warning these systems either failed or became erratic. Vehicle exhibits these malfunctions both stationary and in motion, and at all speeds. It is apparently not an uncommon issue, as per information available on the internet. The (temporary?) fix is to disconnect the battery for 15+ minutes, possible cause: the computer connectors.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/05/2016

On October 5, 2016 at approximately 12:45 p. M. , l engaged the cruise control at a speed of 55 miles per hour. When I pressed on the brake pedal the truck accelerated to a speed of 60 miles and higher. I tested the cruise control system twice more and it did the same thing. The vehicle never slowed down. This is a safety hazard. I was on dam neck road where the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. This is a city street. After this occurred my engine light came on, which clearly indicates a mechanical problem. I think there may be other vehicles that could have this same malfunction and cause a serious accident or death.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Case number: 894366 /this truck has never stopped safely since I purchased it new (02-07-2011/ millage now 28455). When you have to make an emergency stop it might or might not bring it to a stop. Last week my wife and I tried to avoid a collision when a car made a quick turn in front of us and then this car had to make a quick stop. When we applied the brakes it made a very rough sound under front end. . . (as usual. . . But traveled 15 ft. Before it applied the brakes. . . And we were only 3ft. Away from a serious accident). I have discussed this brake problem on many occasions when I would take it in for service with the people who check me in but,. . . They always tell me the brakes are bunny hopping and this is normal for the new trucks and there is nothing wrong with them. . . (but never check them out to make sure). We have had many new vehicles but they all stopped the way they should except this one. I have called this problem to Dodge attention twice and will take it back to efird Chrysler florence, SC Thursday 12-10 '15 and ask them once more to check this truck out. If they don't what are my options? I have also had problems with my transmission rough changing. They have adjusted it twice in the past but after a year or two it starts doing the same thing again. I also want them to fix this transmission once and for good. If you can advise me please do. Sincerely, george grantham.

14 Service Brakes problem of the 2011 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Case nunber:894366. I contacted you 12/04/15 concerning brakes on this truck and I also told you that every time I would try an discuss this issue with efird Chrysler florence, SC they would tell me the brakes are antilock system and it was normal for them to make noise when applied for emergency stopping. I took this truck back 12-10-15 and told them about the near accident my wife and I had on 12-01-15 making an emergency stop. This truck (traveled 15ft. ) after applying the brakes before it started braking to stop this vehicle and we were 3ft. Away from making contact with another vehicle. Now to me this is serious and we are afraid of this vehicle in emergency stops. It has had poor stopping before but never like this. I contacted Chrysler several times about the problem with the brakes but, contacting Chrysler you can get into a lot of conversation but not much action. Efird Chrysler still says this is normal . . . But has not given me a reason for this delayed stopping. I have done all I know to do with efird and Chrysler concerning this problem and I am not getting any results. We still have not been able to get the airbag repair done on this truck or the 2010 challenger /r37/NHTSA 15v-444 / VIN 2b3cj5dt3ah137069.

18 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

I had just purchased the car 2 weeks earlier. I was excellerating to merge onto the freeway and the accelerator stuck at 60 mph. No matter what I did to the pedal, it was stuck at 60 mph. The brakes would not work either. I was in a a runaway car on a busy freeway. I tried to negotiate the traffic for 2 miles then decided I needed to get off the freeway. I started to smash into the freeway off-ramp retaining wall in the effort to slow the truck down which it did to some degree. Then had to barrel through a red light with flashers and horn going and to stop the truck I deliberately rammed it into a wrought iron fence, 2 landscaping boulders and a light post. The airbag also failed. I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital with head trauma and concussion, broken glasses that cut my eyebrow. I have pictures. The worst part has been the ptsd that I have suffered as a result of the accident -- multiple failure - accelerator, brakes and airbag.

19 Service Brakes problem of the 2010 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

My 2010 Dodge Dakota 4dr 4x4 has turned off while on am driving down the road. I notified the dealership shortly after I purchased it (purchased used with about 17,000 miles) and they said that nothing showed/they did not find anything wrong. I said ok, and then it happened again and again. It just shuts down, I have my foot on the gas and all of the sudden I am wondering why I'm slowing down when I have my foot on the gas and then notice "o" the truck turned off! lucky the 5-6 times this has happened I have not been on a straight part of the road, it seems to loose power steering and brakes, I am not sure if other electrical things like radio and lights turn off to, I am just concerned with getting to a stop safely to start the truck again. And I put it in park once stopped and it starts right back up. This has happened 5-6 times at least since I have purchased the truck about 2 years ago (maybe 3 yrs ago). I am wondering if this is the same problem that they just discovered in other Dodge vehicles simple to the chevy ignition recall.

29 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/23/2012

10-23-12. My technician almost had an accident because of his vehicles brakes(abs control module). My tech noticed the stopping light and applied the brake pedal to slow his vehicle. The vehicle did not slow. The tech noticed that the clock went off for a second and came back on. He still didn't have any brakes. Right before he came into the intersection the brakes locked up and he came to a complete stop. He took his foot off the brakes and it was still locked up. He stepped on the gas pedal and the brakes released and he parked in parking lot. I had him get the vehicle towed to a local auto shop chain and they called me later that night and told me that they almost got thrown out of the window because the brakes locked up on him.

I was making a right hand turn in a parking lot, going about 5-10mph, while I was turning, the brake pedal started pulsating very hard - drove forward in the parking lot - made a left hand turn started going forward and went to step on brake pedal and it would not move - pedal was rock hard and would not stop truck. After finally coasting to a stop I put truck in reverse - backed up in vacant part of the parking lot so I could put truck in drive and then swing wide into a parking stall and coast to a stop - however when I went to swing the truck I had absolutely no steering at all -front wheels would not turn. Had to have towed.

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

My brakes locked up completely and my truck slid like it was on ice for 200ft before colliding with the car stopped at the intersection ahead. I have had numerous problems with the braking system and now it has caused an accident which the California law considers me at fault because I rear ended the car ahead of me. I think Chrysler is at fault because their anti lock breaks did not stop the brakes from locking at all now my truck is totaled and another persons car is damaged.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Truck has been driving like something was grinding against my front right wheel for a week or so, I didnt think anything of it, it had just become an annoyance. Id look under the wheel and everything looked okay and in shape, no damage was being done. The other day I drove a short distance and heard a pop, like something had popped near the wheel, I pulled over and could see no damage. I continued to drive and noticed that the grinding had stopped and my wheel seemed to be functioning correctly. I arrived to my destination with no problem. When I left the destination to return home, I started feeling heavy pull to the right on my steering wheel, if I let go of the steering wheel I would have gone into a ditch or the woods or another car. I then started noticed smoke coming from my right wheel, I was a few blocks away from home and figured I could make it, I started noticing my breaks were not working too well, and anytime id push on the breaks more smoke would arise, I went the 3 stop signs to my house and pulled in, ran around and saw that behind my wheel had caught on fire, took about 5 minutes to put the fire out with water and some cat litter we had lying around. It was so hot that it wouldn't cool down for about 45 mins to an hour. We would throw water on it and it would sizzle. I quickly removed the tire to prevent any damage to it. I noticed it had started to melt the plastic boot cover on the suspension. When you looked at the wheel you could see it had snapped off on the bottom half, causing the whole wheel to tilt inward which then caused a full on grind of the wheel and the breakpads and whatever else is down there causing such friction that it caught on fire. I then did research online and found that their had been a recall for this exact issue. . . :(.

35 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/23/2011

Severe shaking of truck when applying the brakes and brake pedal going to the floor at times when applying the brakes. When taken to the dealer, because of an extended warranty, I was informed I would have to pay for the repair. They knew of an ongoing concern regaurding this problem and never notified owners about it. I consider it a safety hazard because the vehichle shakes so badly you have to stop braking in order to get it to quit. There are times on the highway you have to use the brake. I thought the truck was going to roll over one time. When the brake pedal went to the floori almost rearended somebody infront of me.
