5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/23/2009

While driving, heard clunking noise that seemed to come from under the vehicle. The outside of the vehicle appeared normal, including the wheels. I checked under hood and under front end and found nothing broken, missing or leaking and continued driving. The left front wheel later fell off with all studs sheared off. Also, one lug nut on the right front wheel was missing and several others were found to be loose, with several studs cracked. Both wheels had been properly installed and tighten some months earlier. To correct, the left front wheel was replaced. All studs on both front wheels and all lug nuts were replaced. Also, the front brake rotors and pads were replaced because the vehicle fell onto the left front rotor.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 07/25/2009

Rotors turned and then warped/wore set of pads down to bare metal in less than 20,000 miles. Rotors were warped at 32,000 (at time of purchase), 50,000, 63,000, and 80,000. Rear brakes replaced at same interval as front brakes, but hardly any wear was present at time of malfunction of front brakes. All other brake components inspected, no other failures noted. Failure caused an accident due to the brakes giving out. Rwal does not function. No system indication to malfunction. Pulled fuse, and system faults as normal. Extremely poor brake performance/endurance.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/31/2007

At 20k my 2004 Dakota truck needs new brakes and rotors. Dealership said they are blue from getting too hot. My 1999 Dakota just had new brakes and rotors and still had plenty of pad on them at 84k.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/30/2007

Rattling noise heard in the front end and pulsing brakes when stopping. Took vehicle to dealer. Technician indicated the front brakes were making the noise. Replaced the front brakes. I've had problems with the front brakes on this vehicle over and over again. In July 06, the rotors had to be replaced (see odi #10200119) with only 35,552 k on the truck. The new rotors had to be turned in March 07 (see odi #10200122) wiith ony 46,295 on the truck. At that time the person writing up the ticket asked me when I had the front brakes replaced because, in her words "they look brand new". Strangely, only 2 months later at 50,230 miles, the technician indicated the brakes had to be replaced. These were the original brakes. Total cost was $146.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1999 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 04/19/2007

1999 Dodge Dakota applied brake and vehicle pulled to the left*** 2nd car from document number 10195900 the consumer stated when the brakes are applied, the brake pads wear, and pressure was being placed on the lugs/slide bars. The consumer also stated that it was also quite possible the brakes could be delayed from engaging because the backing plates are not able to ride up and over the wear spot. The consumer stated when he attempted to apply the brakes a delay in braking occurred, followed by a slight shudder, then the wheel locked up. The vehicle didn't stop and consequently he rear ened another vehicle.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/28/2006

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Dakota. While applying pressure to the brakes, the contact felt a vibration in the front passenger wheel. There were no warning lights or noises present at the time. The dealer changed the brake pads on the vehicle, however, the failure recurred a week later. He returned to the dealer and they replaced the front rotors. The failure recurred once more and the dealer replaced the rear brakes. The contact stated that he still feels a vibration when applying pressure to the brakes. While washing his vehicle with all of the doors and windows closed, water entered the vehicle and dampened the floor. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The speed was unknown. The failure mileage was 32,000 and current mileage was 47,000.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

Rotors warped / damaged. Brake rotors are severely warped. Brake pads have more than 35% life and the dealership cannot give any explanation why the rotors are damaged. I called Dodge corporation customer service and they will not help. Vehicle maintained only at Dodge dealerships and all service has been performed according to Dodge recommendation since purchased new.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/23/2006

Brakes start to squeak and shimmy. Squeaking very loud when coming to stop. Squeak lasts for about 3 days then sounds like metal to metal and can feel in pedal. Truck starts to shimmy at high speed then applying brakes to stop. I have down 3 complete brake jobs front and rear, best pads, rotors, everything. New replacement rotors have been replaced twice due to warping. The brakes should last longer the 3-4 months which in miles terms is less than 25,000 miles. I am now on my 4th brake job and I shouldn't be. There is a definite problem with the system. Needs to be addressed. This is becoming extremely costly.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/11/2006

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the front brakes locked up without warning. The road was dry and the braking condition was normal. The contact further stated the brakes felt sluggish, as if riding on a flat tire. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the master cylinder, rotors and pads were replaced which corrected the problem.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Dakota. While driving approximately 15 mph downhill with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle shook violently. She pumped the brakes to relieve some of the shaking. The dealer repaired the vehicle the following day per the technical service bulletin. The repair consisted of resurfacing the brakes and drums, and the brake and brake pads were replaced. After a few months, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the failure was not related to a recall; however, it was a safety concern. They were unable to assist. The current mileage was 66,000 and failure mileage was 10,000.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 03/10/2006

2002 Dodge Dakota, 4 wheel drive,81,180 miles, front brakes seized. Had all brakes replaced on Aug 31, 2005. On November 10, 2005 left front rotor and pads seized, alert driving prevented possible vehicle. March 10, 2006, right front rotor seized and once again my alertness prevented another possible vehicle fire. This will be the fourth time the rotors and/or pads have been replaced on this vehicle.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 03/08/2006

I have a recurring brake vibration on my 2005 Dodge Dakota that started at approximately 12000 miles. The dealer who is doing everything he can has replaced rear axles, drums, brake pads, front rotors, turned drums, changed wheels several times. It has been in the shop at lease 7 times and the problem still exists. I wrote letters and phoned Chrysler several times and they don't seem to be interested. This is a safety issue and there will probably be a crash.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 02/13/2006

2000 Dodge Dakota constant mechanical failure due to the type of rotors, brake pads, and ball joints they use. They use inferior products that do not last on a vehicle based on normal wear and tear. Have to constantly replace brake pads and rotors about every 20,000 miles. That is not acceptable. Dodge products from the earlier years really suck. I am not sure about the newest models such as 2004 and 2005.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 11/05/2005

Here's what I submitted to the Dodge website: last night I returned from my Dodge dealership after having new brake pads and new rotors installed. The vehicle is driving fine and the brakes are operating perfectly. The assistant service manager, wes, was helpful and professional. However, I don't think spending $900 on new rotors should be required after two years of operation and less than 50,000 miles. I am meticulous about maintenance and tire rotation. I do not ride the truck hard and all of my driving is country, not city, mileage. Even your Dodge personnel could not give me any reason why this would happen so soon. I am not a certified mechanic, but I believe there is something seriously wrong with either the design of the brakes or the materials or components used in the brake design. I bought a new '91 Dodge daytona and said I would never buy another Dodge due to problems and maintenance costs. In 2003, I thought I would give Dodge another shot and bought a new loaded, Dakota truck. Rest assured, this will be the last Dodge vehicle I ever own. Sincerely, william wilson.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/25/2004

1-grabbing & squeaky brakes; 2-front rotors & disc pads; 3-replaced front rotors & disc pads. Dealership kept old parts. Ak.

21 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/04/2004

Vehicle vibrated severely when braking from 5-65 mph. Vehicle was driven to the dealer for inspection, and dealer determined that front pads broke, and both front rotors were warped.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/21/2004

Front disc brakes would not release while driving. Dealer could not find a problem. Occurred again on Dec 10, with front rotors turning bright red and smoking. Dealer found abs system was not releasing hydraulic fluid, replaced abs component, front rotors and brake pads. Occurred again on Dec 30 while driving, will return to dealer for resolution.

23 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 06/18/2004

I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota quad cab and while approaching a stop sign, stepped on the brake pedal which went completely to the floor, and nearly caused me to rear end another vehicle. When I brought it to the dealer they stated to me that the the brake pad was sheared off by the rivets, causing a metal to metal contact with the rotor.

25 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 01/01/2004

I purchased a new 2003 Dodge Dakota truck in November, 2003. The brakes started squeaking loudly in January, 2004. It seems that I really have to push hard for the brakes to work. I informed the dealership in January, March, and may 2003 and again in June, 2004. They insist that it is common for the brakes to make a noise like this. They have attempted to put some type of filler on the pads which only stop it from making a noise for one week. In June, 2004, they said they replaced the pads with a "cheap" new pad. The brakes are still squeaking loudly. I am sending this to you because I called Chrysler and they said there was nothing they can do. I am just afraid that one day my breaks will not work and I will cause an accident. What do you recommend I do? thank you. Ingrid getka.

26 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/10/2003

At 35,500 I was told that my front brakes and rotors had to be replaced because the rotors were pitted and brakes were worn. I could understand brakes pads need replacing (although I do most driving on a highway therefore not using brakes much) but rotors need replacing because of pitting; something is wrong here. In addition, ever since I've had this truck (rear anti-lock brakes) I notice that when the anti-lock kicks in it seems as though I've lost alot of braking power. I've found myself in the middle of an intersection at times because the truck wouldn't stop and I was not going that fast. I had a truck cut in front of me one day on the highway (someone in front of him had stopped) and the only way I advoided hitting him was to drive off on the shoulder of the road; the brakes quit working. I have a '92 Dakota with rear anti-lock brakes and it stops with out problems.

27 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 12/09/2003

I have a 2003 Dodge ram, 1500 quad cab with a hemi engine. I only have 7500 miles on it and I have taken it in twice to have the front rotors turned down because of severe warpage of them. I am being told that they now have to replace the calipers and brake pads but it has now been over a month because there is a national back-order on the parts. They stated that they have no idea when the parts will be in so I have been driving a truck that severly vibrates the steering when I apply the brakes. They refer to TSB 05-008-03 for the problem.

28 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 11/05/2003

Shuddering and vibration in brakes when stopping at all speeds. Have replaced pads, and rotors twice. Had rotors turned once in between changes. Have seen many other complaints and service bulletins issued on this. Why is no one doing a defect investigation?.

29 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 10/01/2003

When driving it feels like vehicle has a mind of its own. Driver will attempt to drive straight, yet it feels like vehicle is alternately pulling towards left and right. Dealer replaced front brake pads and rotors three times. This did not remedy the problem. Vehicle had been examined by dealer five times, and stated no problem could be found with the way vehicle performed.

30 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/16/2003

At 21000 miles, I noticed a clanking sound in the front of the vehicle. When the dealer checked it out, the brake pad clips had rusted away and one rotor had excessive wear. However, Chrysler refused to pay for repairs, which cost over $400. 00.

31 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/07/2003

My 2002 Dodge Dakota 4x4 had a defect in the brakes/rotors which had to be replaced at 30000 miles. From checking chat sites this is apparently a very common problem with this truck. Dodge told me that they were not going to do anything for me that the truck was not under warranty.

32 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 09/05/2003

Brake rotor on my 2000 Dodge Dakota have been turned down twice and replace once in 30,000 miles. The was due to excessive pulsating and degradation of stopping ability. I am concerned that this problem is a safety issue due to the occurrence of reduced braking power. This problem is occuring once again and needs to be remedied. I have been told by Dodge that is is normal wear and will happen. A warped brake rotor is not considered normal wear. The pulsation of the brakes can easily cause someone to lose control on a slippery surface. It is also concievable that the abs system may not work properly when the rotor is warped. Please look further into this, thank you.

33 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/22/2003

I have a 2002 ram quad cab 4x4. The rotors needed to be turned to eliminate a severe brake vibration at about 15000 miles. At 28000 they need to be replaced to correct the problem again. I still have not worn out the original brake pads. Dodge customer service contends that the problem has occured because of driving style, road conditions and the weather. I contend that they are poorly designed rotors. A ram "tough" truck should be able to withstand my wife's highway commute to work. These brake "failures" reduce the effective braking ability of the truck, compromise control and put undue stresses on the other suspension components. These brakes are an accident waiting to happen.

34 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/04/2003

My 2000 Dodge Dakota has has front rotor problems continually. Dealer temporarly cured the problem by changing front pads, turning down front rotors and rear drums. Warranty ran out and I had same problem. Warped front rotors. I had heavy duty rotors installed and ceramic pads installed at different times. Nothing has helped the problem. When I step on the breaks the front end shimmys until I take it to a repair facility to have more work done. Okay for about 5,000 or less miles. What are my options besides setting the thing on fire and getting a new one?.

35 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Dodge Dakota

Failure Date: 08/01/2003

I own a 2002 Dodge Dakota with 25000 miles just had to have front rotors and brake pads replaced.
