About a week ago I noticed water dripping while it was raining from my grab handle on the driver's side area. A couple of days later the weather changed to freezing and my windshield cracked. Insurance replaced the cracked wind shield and the technician said that it was due to the cause was door seal/roof seam seal. This was a recall on Dodge ram 2002 through 2004 reference #23-003-04. I went to the dealer and basically was told nothing is cover for the same problem on my 2005 Dodge Dakota. Even though it is the same problem. Also being told that unless the government issues a recall or replacement Dodge will not fix this.
Windshield no top rubber, windsheild becoming loose.

On 2003 and 2004 Dodge vehicles, the piece of trim and weather stripping are not being put at the top of the windshield. The gap between the top of the windshield and the car body ranges from none to 3/8 inch wide by 1/2 inch deep. Water could get in this gap and freeze causing the windshield to come loose, crack, or shatter. Water expands as it freezes and the pressure from the expansion could cause severe problems if the windshield came loose, cracked, or shattered when driving. Water is naturally going to collect in this gap either from rain, car washing, or snow melting. The movement of the vehicle would cause the water to freeze faster in below freezing conditions. I notified daimler-Chrysler and they said to take it to a dealer, which I did and the dealer said this was done by the factory starting with the 2003 model year. Customer service at daimler-Chrysler acts as if you are bothering them with problems like this but I feel it could be a real serious problem in the colder northern states like ohio. The gap runs the full width of the body. Thanks.
There seems to be a wind noise coming from the windshield. Is this normal for this vehicle? the dealer said it was. I don't trust the dealer.

After less than 10000 miles the windshield is pitted to the extent that it is very difficult to see when driving with a glare condition or at night when it is raining. I drive approximately 400 miles per week and it seems that this condition should not manifest itself for another 70000 miles or so. I have considered that I live in a somewhat sandy area of the country and that sand is used on the roads during the winter however, after comparing the windshield to other vehicles with much higher mileage from this same area, it appears that the glass used is "soft. " I hace also noticed that while drivng in the rain, the precipitation makes a very high pitched noice when hitting the windshield. The condition of the windshield at present does not pose an immediate safety threat but I do feel that the glass used may be of "cheap construction'" thereby perhaps creating a hazarous condition should an object strike the windshield.

While driving about 55 mph on a cool day driver's side window exploded, glass was flying all over inside of vehicle.
Windshield and side windows on passenger side has stars in it and the manufacture rep said they have never seen anything like it but will investigate it further. They seem to bubble up and you can scrape the top off of them with a razor blade. One of the mechanics said they had a whole load of caravans that came in like that and they replaced all of the windows. Dodge needs to stand behind it's productsand give the customer what they paid for because this vehicle was not cheap.
