The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Dart. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, and as he was driving over speed bumps, several warnings illuminated, and the vehicle became difficult to steer left or right. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into a barrier post on the roadway on the driver's side front. The contact was able to stop the vehicle and observed that the damage was minimal, a small dent on the corner of the front bumper on the driver's side. The contact stated that he drove the vehicle back to his residence. The contact stated that when he shifted to park (p) the vehicle continued to move forward. The contact applied the brake and stopped. When he shifted to reverse (r) again, the vehicle was not responding to the gear shift lever. The contact stated that multiple warnings had illuminated on the instrument cluster, "service transmission" and numerous other unknown warnings. The contact stated that the prndl was flashing on the shifter console. The contact stated the engine stalled, and he was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact had received a recall letter from the manufacturer and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v674000 (power train). The contact had called a local dealer who advised that the remedy was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Backed out of a parking spot then came to a stop and switched gear to drive. The car stayed in reverse yet the shifter was in the drive position. Moved it to the park position and no change car was still reading as reverse. Later find out that the clip holding the gear shift cable to the lever had broke. After applying the ebrake and manually going under the hood to switch the lever to park or neutral was the car able to be stopped and towed to a dealership. The only offer to fix this problem wether it is the piece connected to the lever or the actually shift is to get a completely new cable. This cable is not part of the power train warranty although the prndl position switch is. A significant amount of other Dodge Dart owners have reported the same problem or problems with the transmission control module (only recalled in 1. 4l turbos). Both are serious problems that affect and can hinder the drivability of the car.
