The front tires wore out very quickly, we replaced the tires and within a year they wore out again. Alignment has not helped. We took it in and found out the ball joints are bad. $1000 repair.
My '99 Dodge Durango is sitting on it's 3rd set of ball joints, and I am told it needs another. I've repeated been told "you're lucky your whole wheel didn't come off while you were driving". This is ridiculous! I am tired of fixing the same problem over and over! I have seen hundreds of complaints at various sites from other consumers complaining of the same problem! why is nothing being done? how many people/families/children will have to die before this auto giant is forced to do the ethical and honorable action of properly repairing this problem? I don't care how much it costs them; they created the problem. Almost all auto giants are receiving bail out money from the government. . . Million. . . They need to use some of it for a good purpose.
I have 99 Dodge Durango I have had it since 2004 then I have had to put over 3,000 into the front end. I have had the ball joints (upper and lower) replaced. My ball joints broke the first time and my car almost crashed into a tree. I was just doing 60 down a highway. I turned and got about 200 feet into a driveway and my tire just fell off and my whole car hit the ground. I know that this has been checked. Everyone I know who has 99-2002 Durango has this problem. If I would have been going 60 and this happened then. . . I would not be here typing this. It should be a recall, it makes this vehicle unsafe. I just had my ball joint replaced again, not to mention I had to buy brand new tires because the bad ball joint rubbed my brand new tires down. This is a manufactures mess up. There is no way this many people have had a problem with this and nothing has been done about it.
Had uneven wear after I had put new tires on with a four wheel alignment. Both front wheels are wearing on the inside so I had it evaluated by a dealership which I was informed that I would need new ball joints and tie rods at a price of $2,200. 00. After having this fixed I still have the same problems, so I took it back and they said that I would need new a arms for another $1,800. 00. The vehicle is not even worth fixing.
I am a single parent with to kids, I am going to college full-time and working to make ends meet. I recently acquired a 1999 Dodge Durango that I now have to either sell, scrap, or something . Due to the need to replace the ball joints and tie rods in the truck, also every time I step on the break my dash lights turn off!!!! why is it that the 1999 nwas not recalled along with the others?.
According to dealer. . . "front end completely worn out. " front end -ball joints, tie rods, and sway bushings all failed. While driving, I began to hear a grinding noise in the area of the front end while the brakes were not engaged. The sound got worse so, instead of risking an accident (as I had my children in the car), I had the vehicle towed to the dealer the same day (the day before memorial day weekend :{ ).
I have a 1999 Dodge Durango with 107,000 miles on it. The front end has been pulling to the right for some time now,I have taken the truck to the dealerdhip before to get checked and they it was fine. I have recently put the truck in shop for inspection and alignment and the repair shop said that the ball joints are very worn and the right side is loose. I have checked the recall was 2000-2003. The repair shop told me if the truck was made in late 1999 then maybe there is a chance to be recalled. I have called chrylser about it but they will not respond.

The front suspension ball joints and tie rods on my Dodge Durango 1999 are worn out prematurely. Occasionally when the steering wheel is turned, the front suspension makes a popping noise.
I was informed by my mechanic that the ball joints on my truck are defective. After being told this I saw the news the other night regarding the Dodge Durangos, and the tiers falling off do to the ball joints. My mechanic also told me that they needed to be taken care of. With a big price tag I was wondering what can be done about this. (there was no incident yet?).
The front end of my 1999 Dodge Durango started making noises around 50,000 miles. I carried it to a Dodge dealer where they informed me that the ball joints and the front suspension bushings were worn and required replacing. They further stated the reason was that there is no way to lubricate the joints. The costto replace is $800. This is to soon for this to be wearing out.
The vehicle was taken to the dealer for regular maintenance, and dealer found that the vehicle needed new bushings and ball joints.
My 1999 Durango slt 4 x 4 has serious front end problems. I had to have the ball joints in addition to other front end components replaced in order to make the vehicle safe to drive. Everybody seems to know, ?everyone but me,? that this SUV is a rolling death trap. I have read so many complaints on the web that I felt like a sucker for re-entering the american car market. Chrysler knows that the ball joints on this vehicle are undersized and yet they have not recalled the vehicle. I am registering this complaint so that there is a record that yet another Dodge customer is out money due to their lack of quality control.
While having routine maintenance work performed on our car, it was noted that the front suspension ball joints on our '99 Durango are "dangerously" worn out. The repair facility mentioned that the same problem has been noted on all Durangos that have come through their shop and that such premature wear is not common.
I would like to file a complaint about a defect in the Dodge Durango ball joints. In USA today, dated: July 22, 2003, there was a article indicating that federal regulators are investigating the Dodge Durango SUV for a defect that could cause the front wheels to separate from the vehicle because the ball joints had worn out and the vehicle suspension to collapse. I have an 1999 Durango with roughly 30k miles. In may 03, I took my car in for 30k mile maintenance and because it was running rough. I ended up having to have the ball joint and suspension for the front wheel replaced because I was told that the ball joints had disintegrated and the suspension had subsequently been damaged. I have only driven my Durango on the highway and I have never taken it off the road. Therefore, I thought this type of problem was very odd at only 30000 miles. After reading the article in USA today, it is clear to me the damage to my vehicle was due to this defect. This complaint is to further collobrate the 81 complaints already filed.
9/19/02 had to replace upper and lower bushings on my 99 Dodge Durango with 59,339 miles. Called daimler Chrysler and was told that they were not aware of any suspension problems. Then on March 8, 2003 I had to replace the right ball joint with 65,577 miles. Once again call daimer Chrysler and again was told that they were not aware of any suspension problems.
