For my 1999 Dodge Durango the ball joints need to be replaced costing $800. I see that Dodge recalled the 2000 - 2003 Durango's for this issue, or at least the upper ball joints. I don't understand why 1998 and 1999 were not recalled as well. Especially since this is a safety issue that could cause loss of vehicle control at high speeds.

My 1999 Dodge Durango has been making strange creaking noises for some time. Every time I have taken it in for service, I've been told everything is okay. Just recently those creaking noises became worse. This time when I took the car in for service I found out it was a problem with the ball joint. It was recommended that I have it fixed as soon as possible. It cost $635 to fix.

I recently put new tires on my 1999 Dodge Durango, then I went to have the front end aligned only to be told they can't do it because the ball joints are bad. I notice there is a recall on 2000-2003 Durangos,yet I have the same problem. This is a family car and my children are not safe. There should be a recall for this problem on all Dodge Durangos as it is more widespread than the Chrysler corp. Realizes. Please do some thing to fix this immediately.

Upon initial inspection, the upper control arm ball joint were loose and needed to be replaced. There is a NHTSA recall campaign id # 04v596000 regarding the upper ball joints. Suspension:front:control arm:upper ball joint excessive wear as in 2000 model year NHTSA campaign id number : 04v596000. This Durango has 85561 miles which is below the 100,000 mile cut off for the recall mentioned above for the 2000 model year. The upper ball joints on both sides show excessive wear and will separate just as the upper ball joints on the 2000 model year. I am having them replaced however, the 1999 model year should have been included in the NHTSA campaign id number : 04v596000.

Ball joints. I have been having trouble with my ball joint every since I owned this vehicle. And I believe that my vehicle should have been included in the upper ball joint recall but it wasn't. My upper ball joint don't have any grease fitting so therefore when they dry out it causes them to pop and go bad all over again.

The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Upper ball joints dangerously loose on 99 Durango. Current recall needs to be extended to the 1999 model year as they have the same problems. These upper ball joints on both sides were close to complete failure which would have caused total loss of control of vehicle had I not been in the habit of checking them because of so many reported failures of ball joints on the Durangos.

Repair costs are mine they aren't responsible. If there is another recall they may reconsider. If they have defective parts should they not be held responsible or do I have to be injured or killed first.

I have been told my vehicle is not covered by this recall. If Dodge is truly concerned about driver safety, why do they limit the recall? if its a safety issue because of defective parts, then why don't they agree to review the vehicle? what recourse do I have?.

Took in for routine maintance. Found out that upper ball joints were ready to braek at 51,000 miles. This is on my 1999 Dodge Durango that hasd been well taken care of. Caught the problem before failure occured which would have caused steering failure. Ball joints and lower control arms needed replaced. Yes the old parts are available.

I noticed while driving my 1999 Dodge durrango, at speeds in excess of 45 mph, that the front end shook excessively. I took my 99 durrango to the local Dodge dealer, and asked about a recall that I was told about. The service manager at the dealership told me it was for 2000's not 99's. Then he proceded to tell me that the 2000 and the 99 upper control arm and ball joint assembly were exactly the same part. But, he could not explain to me why one was covered under the recall and the other was not. He then quoted me a price and wanted me to leave my vehicle so it could be repaired. When I insisted on an explaination for this, he swiftly gave me a 1-800 number to call, where ofcourse I got the run around and still no answer.

I bought my 1999 Dodge Durango back in may 2003. I had it for almost one year and brought it in for some maintenance. They told me 3 of the 4 ball joints were bad and the fourth one was still within spec, whatever that is. I was also told that one ball joint was about to come apart if I had waited any longer. I had them replaced at a cost of $716. I then continuewd to keep up on the maintenance of them by greasing them regularly and inspecting them once a month. Last month I noticed that the fourth on ethat was not replaced is woren and needs to be replaced. I also see that a recall was done but does not cover all the vehicles that have this problem. I believe that Dodge needs to step up and fix this problem for all the Durangos not just a few.

1999 Dodge Durango began to shake when brakes are applied. Have been to the local Dodge dealer. They have notified me that the problem is due to worn upper ball joints. These ball joints are part of a recall for 2000-2004 Dodge Durangos. I have contacted Chrysler to ask for assistance in replacing the upper ball joints due to the problem that I have experienced. They have denied my request. They have agreed that the upper ball joints used in the 1999 4-wheel drive Durangos is the same at the upper ball joints used in the 2000-2004 Durangos.
