2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

The vehicle will intermittently shut off without warning. Does not sputter or stall out it just shuts off like you turned the key off. No codes thrown so the dealer wont acknowledge it. Vehicle will start right back up but I have seen several complaints where people have wrecked because they lost control of steering and braking. So far this has only happened to me while at a stop light but from other reports it sounds like it can happen at any time.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

I was going 45 miles an hour with all my 4 children and husband in vehicle when without warning the vehicle shut off. There is no code vehicle loses power steering and brake function and you have to shut vehicle down and restart to gain control again. This has happened 7 times! there is no code being given no one can diagnose this issue I have been everywhere and been told that no one can do anything for me this is ridiculous I have seen this problem spread all over Dodge for you and I cannot believe that this is not a recall a whole family my family almost died multiple times because of its end this is not right that there is not a recall on this this is serious there have been hundreds of near-death accidents because of this issue alone this needs to be looked into this needs to be taken seriously and Dodge needs to be held accountable it has nothing to do with speed I was parked in my vehicle died this morning I'm fortunate that I was parked and not driving the last two times I was pulling out of a parking lot in front of some cars and it just died I had to turn on my flashers as quickly as possible so hopefully no one would hit me as I was dead in the road the fact that I can't just take this to a shop because there's absolutely no indication of what's going on there's no warning when this happens there is no code after this happens I don't feel safe hundreds thousands of others do not feel safe and nothing has been done about this I am terrified to put my family in a family vehicle are only family vehicle because we have gotten lucky up until this point but I don't see that look holding out for much longer somebody needs to look into this and somebody needs to hold Dodge accountable.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. Whenever it rained or snowed, water leaked into the inside of the vehicle through the hood. The water entered the motor and caused the vehicle to stall and the engine to shut off without warning. The check engine indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the water was leaking into the motor and the pistons, which caused them to fail. As a result, the motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

If any water gets into engine compartment (rain, etc. . ) the engine will misfire (stationary) or shut off (stationary or driving). If driving while raining, the SUV will misfire and may shut off while driving. The error seems to be well documented on the internet and became all to real this week when the car shut off at 70 mph on the highway while it was raining almost causing an accident and potentially killing my family.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2012

I've owned my 2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7 hemi since 2005. With only 151,960 miles - taking excellent care and pride in it, the #7 rod has been bent. Water has somehow gotten into my motor causing all kinds of issues. Within the past year, it has had issues running hot, running poorly when it rains and rough idle on occasion. After sitting for 24 hours, I went out to crank it and it jumped (I thought a small animal had crawled into my motor) and it shut off. I then re-cranked it and it sounds like a sewing machine. I had to have it towed and am now looking at $4000 for another motor. I've have researched the internet and am totally blown away at the others having the issues with the same exact make and model of vehicle. This is something Chrysler should make right. I am a single mother and live week to week, I can not afford to do this, but I have to. Working full time, caring for a 10 year old and now applying for a part-time job is what this extra expense is causing me to do. I think someone should do something - if I win the lottery, you best believe I will. Chrysler do the right thing. . . . This is happening too much and is a defect - no doubt. Toyota did a recall - maybe if I'm ever to buy another vehicle, atleast they would make it right. *kicks soapbox*.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

I’ve had my 2004 Dodge Durango since 2006, purchase it while living in paducah, ky. Very nice family vehicle I thought, until about 1yr ago, when I discover when it rain hard, or I take truck through a carwash, it shuts off on me. I would be driving and when I turn off on exit or street, it instantly shuts off, which leaves my tail ends hanging out. Thank god i’ve never been in an accident. I used this truck for personal reasons as well as taking kids back and forth to school. This is so dangerous. I took it to wolfchase Chrysler Dodge, here in memphis 02/2011 about this problem in which I felt was another waste of my money, because chad was so much unhelpful and unconcern. He told me about other problems, in which I already knew I needed brakes. He claims they were unable to find anything. That was the main reason why I finally took it there when I had money. Thinking they would solve my problem. Sad they couldn’t tell me what was wrong with my vehicle. I see where there are so many people complaining about this same problem. This has to be a recall!!! help please…. It’s so strange that I am having so many problems with my 2004 Durango. I had my oil change Friday 04/22/11 at jiffy lube. On Saturday 04/23/11, I was out driving and my truck start shaking, so I turned onto this lot beside menekine shop, because I thought my tires was coming off when I got out to look, the tires was ok. So, I walked over to the owner and asked could he see what’s wrong with my truck. He managed to get it started back up, to pull it under the garage. He checked the oil, which was in there, put it on a machine, which gave him 6 codes, something about a misfire, and something being rich. He continue to check a lot of things and he notice my oil light couldn’t be reset, and also stated something about my valve are knocking and that I needed a needed a motor. Omg!!!, when it rains, it pour. I called Chrysler Dodge again, and chad answered the phone. I asked him about the motor. He to.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2009

I have a 2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7l v8 with 74,000 miles on it. Every couple of weeks the engine stalls without any prior warning. The vehicle just shuts off and I can't use the brakes to stop or anything. I've taken it to the dealership on multiple occasions but they keep telling me they can't find anything wrong. I've read several other complaints from owners of this vehicle experiencing the same problem. I don't feel safe driving the vehicle. Luckily, I haven't been in an accident yet, but I'm fearful that it's only a matter of time before I am in an accident due to the engine stalling.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

Vehicle dies when it rains or if you go through a car wash. The engine shuts off and all power is lost. This is a very well known problem of this vehicle, yet Dodge has done nothing for it. It is extremely dangerous when it suddenly dies in traffic plus it is raining. We have taken it to several Dodge dealers over the past five years, yet they claim they don't know how to fix it even though there is a service bulletin for it, but not a recall.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2009

The vehicle stalls without warning in different driving conditions. It has happened multiple times and it seems to be getting worse. In two cases, accidents were close to occurring if it were not for the other vehicle's ability to stop or swerve around. The power steering in the vehicle stops, which is the first indication that the vehicle has stalled. There is no power and the vehicle shuts off. The vehicle turns on again with no problems and we are able to proceed without problems until it happens again. It usually doesn't happen within the same trip, at least it hasn't happened yet.
