Purchased vehicle in April 2013. First week fuel pump went out. In late 2013 replaced fuel pump again after it went out a second time. By now we realized that if we drove the vehicle in the rain or through a car wash it would shutter and cut off. In early 2014 the fuel pump went out again. We replaced fuel pump again and also cowl as we had found information that the cowl was allowing water to drip down on the engine and electrical box. This helped for about 14 months. In July 2015 replaced fuel pump twice. Now it is November 2015 and as I type this it is back in the shop having the fuel pump replaced again. Water is again leaking onto the engine and computer block. It causes shuttering and stalling and then within a short time the fuel pump goes out. Driving down the road in the rain is terribly dangerous because there is no way to tell if the vehicle will shut off or not. I have contacted Dodge and there is a technical safety bulletin about this issue, but no recall as of yet. A quick search shows hundreds of other Dodge owners having the same issue. Because most of the vehicles are no longer under warranty Dodge has not address the issue as a whole. I hope it doesn't take someone or a family being killed before a recall is issued.

As I was driving down the street in light rain my 2004 Dodge Durango begin to shake and stall. As I came to a stop I recall the SUV smoking. I stop the SUV immediately and could tell the smoke was coming from under the hood. I notified my mechanic and had the truck towed to the shop where he told me the cowl panel was allowing water to leak onto my engine which would cause water yo get into my intake that would result into a blown engine. I notified Chrysler/Dodge to no avail they act as if they have never heard of the issue, which is surely incorrect because of all the post of people would common issues with there Dodge Durango. This should definitely be a recall.
After a thaw of snow and a early morning rain, went to start Durango and would not turn over. After a few attempts Durango start to a loud bang and rattling. Turned off. Told the engine blew. Month prior to this when it would rain the Durango would stall. No one could figure out why. Now what I have been told is hydrolock. Https://youtu. Be/9inzyt3jujw.

Vehicle stalled out on me during a heavy rain. I was going about 60mph on the highway, when vehicle started to shake. About 5 minutes after heavy rain, I lost all power and had to pull my vehicle off to the side of the road. I waited about 30 minutes and rain began to slow to a drizzle. Vehicle cranked right up after that. This is a very dangerous situation as I could have been rear ended on the highway. I have looked into this issue as I have had rough idles and stall outs when in automatic car washes. The issue seems to be with the cowl and a replacement cowl is available through the manufacturer at our own cost. If this issue has been addressed as a defect on an oem part then why should the consumer who has already paid for a vehicle be liable? I hope that this is more thoroughly investigated and it does not take the fatality of an unsuspecting consumer for issue to be addressed.

The electrical portion started after I first purchased the vehicle. The issue worsened after someone broke into the vehicle. The car wouldn't stay charged, and I ended up needing a tow every other week. My car insurance went up to $550. 00 a month. I was always stranded. The problem was worse in the rain. Sometimes the car would cut off while driving, it did it once on the highway and I saw a semi coming down the highway and I thought I was dead. I got it started and pulled over to the shoulder because I didn't have enough speed to get out the way. Eventually it couldn't' start anymore. I had it sitting for a year as I kept making loan payments. I fixed one thing after the other. . . Thinking it was the problem. . . The car would start and die a few days later. This last time I changed the starter for the third time. A rod was thrown and the engine is locked. I wasn't even driving the vehicle, it started after 3rd starter was installed and a crunch noise sounded a few minutes later while trying to give the battery some juice. I towed it into another shop and they confirmed the engine is gone. I had to pay full coverage insurance because it's financed and a car note for a truck that's gone. I've searched online and Dodge knows and hasn't taken responsibility. Involuntary repossession would be futile because after the fee for repo, towing, storage. . I will owe more than what I have left to pay, $5000. 00 and still not even scrap metal. I've read so many discussion board post, consumer blogs on this model and 'm floored. I guess the complaints are recent because one you get to like 70,00 mile you are toast. I don't drive to work, only on the weekends and I take good care of my truck and now I have nothing but payments and metal that looks pretty on the outside.
My 2004 Dodge Durango limited stalls at slow speeds and when coming to a stop and also while making turns. Have had at dealership and they cannot find out what is causing this since there are no engine codes. Vehicle is becoming very dangerous to drive due to this issue. Durango has a 5. 7 hemi engine. Why is there no recalls on this issue when it involves over four years of production? are we waiting on a incident like Toyota had before we react? this has happened to Durango's with mileage low to high. Please help us now on this issue before it happens to you. Thanks !.
We bought this vehicle in Aug 2012. The first time driving on the expressway to work in a heavy rain storm my Durango wanted to stahl every time I took my foot off the gas pedal. When I finally got off at the exit to the traffic light I of course was stopped the engine was shaking and trying to stahl I had to keep my car in neutral and my other foot on the brake. When I finally got to work it did actually stahl. After work that day it must've dried up enough because it started and ran fine. After researched we read you silicone the cowl which my husband did do and it didn't help at all. It has stalled several times now after you take your foot off the gas one time it stalled. In the car wash and wouldn't restart until a couple cranks later. This is an extreme safety hazard I can not drive with my foot always on the gas. We have asked the dealer several times and they pretend like we have no idea what we're talking about my husband even told them he'd be happy to drive it up there pour water on the windshield so they can see what's happening. Could you please look into this I will be more than happy to let you drive my Durango if you need a test vehicle.
I was driving in the pouring rain and all of a sudden my Durango started skipping and had a hesitation when giving the gas then stalled suddenly. Had to pump gas to restart and continued stalling as soon as it restarted. Per shop, 2004-2005 have defective cowl on windshield with huge gap. Water is just pouring onto motor causing misfire. This is a known issue and Dodge refuses to recall. I have contacted my local Dodge dealer who has ordered the part however part has been back ordered for over a month. This is a very dangerous situation. Not only is the vehicle stalling suddenly but once it stalls I lose my power steering and bearly make it to the side of the road. Since this started, I still feel a hesitation/skip in the motor when driving in dry condition. Something needs to be done here. Why isn't Dodge being held responsible for these dangerous issues?.
Went grocery shopping night before. Woke up next morning to go to breakfast. Went to start Durango. Heard loud knocking and then it stalled got out and oil was spewing from under the engine. Took it to mechanic and had to get a $5500 loan to replace the entire engine due to a thrown rod.

Water is getting under the cowl and onto my motor. I have taken my 2004 hemi Durango to several shops/dealers and the water is causing all kinds of problems. The cylinders are misfiring, some of the metal parts under the hood have rusted irreparably (ie. Motor heat guards), the windshield gets ice on the inside of the vehicle, my headlights blink on and off while driving, the heat works only sometimes due to the wires under the passenger side dash getting wet, and this water getting through is also causing my car to stall or almost stall every time it rains or take it through a car wash. This water is causing electrical problems. It is also rusting horribly fast near the wheel wells and on the back trunk hatch. Within only 2 weeks of cold weather I now have a solid hole from the rust. Why can't they recall some parts and fix this? the dealer is no help, they only want to charge me huge amounts of money to repair problems that were factory defects.
Car stalled for no reason. Lucky this happen in a parking lot at 10mph as all the controls went out. Stopped the car turned it off and it started right back up with no issue. This has happened again 4 more times all at low speed. I have called the Dodge dealer and they told me there was nothing they could do for me as my vehicle is out of warranty even if the NHTSA had opened an investigation on this issue a long time ago. It is nice to see how Dodge stands behind their products and after reading the NHTSA website it looks like I am in store for many more issues that Dodge will not help with. This is a safety issue and I do not understand how Dodge is able to get away with this. I wanted to pass this vehicle onto my daughter so she would be a proud Dodge owner so much for that. Why keep the service at the dealership up to date when in the end there is no added value to paying more for servicing your vehicle at the dealership.

I purchased the vehicle in 2009, within a 1 years, I noticed while driving during a heavy downpour the car would shake and sometimes stall out. I took it to the dealer in 2011 and they replaced the intake gaskets. I am now realing that this seems to be a common problem and should have had a recall on it.

This has occurred 5 times in the past 6 months the most recent event was Monday July 12, 2010.

2004 Dodge Durango 5. 7 stalling at low speeds at intersections. Starts up right away but causes a safety hazard when stuck in the middle of the road with traffic coming. Happened 1 time about a month after I purchased the vehicle in 2007. Has happened 4 times in the last month.
When driving at low speeds it stalls. I am able to restart it but it is not always easy to tell when it has stalled, because all electrical things still work radio, lights, etc. Steering wheel does lock though and it takes almost a minute to get it into neutral and start it again. Also while driving as you press the gas pedal it acts as though it is going to die and then lunges forward. I have not yet corrected either of these issues.
