I bought my Durango "used" from the dealership and the first time I filled the tank up, gas went everywhere. I thought it was the gas station but the time after that, when I filled up- I did it slowly and it still overfilled and spilled everywhere. Now, I can't fill my tank full as I am afraid of a fire and also don't like wasting money on expensive gas that isn't going into my tank so I only fill it about half full every time. This is a headache no matter how you put it. However, I have read and seen many reviews of many other 2006 Durangos with the same issue. Wondering if there's a recall?.
Everytime we fill the gas tank for the past year it shoots more than a foot out of the vehicle.
Own Durango built Jan 2006, gas is put in it, click off nozzle, gas comes back out forcefully over the vehicle, ground and myself. It is terrifying and dangerous. There is a recall for this on the 2005. Someone is going to get seriously hurt. I barely drive it because I am so terrified to put gas in it. I tried to email Dodge and the email does not go through. I called on the recall and they told me it is for the 2005 and I can have the dealer fix it and maybe they will help. I took it to an independent repair shop and the part alone is $550 and I do not have that kind of money and I don't have 40,000 miles on the vehicle. Here is the recall: January 2009 -- Chrysler is recalling 19,024 my 2005 Dodge Durango vehicles. The fuel tank filler tube inlet check valve may not fully close at the end of refueling. This could allow some fuel to escape from the vehicle through the filler neck at the end of refueling. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire. Dealers will inspect the fuel tank inlet check valve. Vehicles found to have a suspect inlet check valve will have the fuel tank assembly replaced free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during April 2009. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. This recall was the subject of a recall query, rq08-005, conducted by the office of defects investigation. . Read more...
Every time this vehicle is filled to full it spews gas out of the tank at the pump operator resulting in gas on the person fueling vehicle. We have tried several service stations this is not a pump issue the issue is with the vehicle. We have spoken to several station attendants this is a known issue to them. I believe this needs to be addressed before someone is seriously burned by a spark.
Gas spits out forcefully when fueling, leaving gas all over the floor, along the side of the vehicle, and on my clothes/shoes. It happens every time unless I stop fueling before the tank fills up. Makes it tough to go on long trips because I can never have a full tank of gas. This has continued for over a year.
I purchased this vehicle for my mother. I filled the tank with gas on several occasions- when the tank is full gas flies out of the tank. My mother has known of this problem, however, I have not. I was trying to be nice & fill the tank for her. I heard the click on the nozzle as I stood leaning against the vehicle & when I pulled the nozzle out gas flew all over my arm & atleast a foot in the air. Outrageous! she said it's happened to her so she just puts in $50.
Every time I fill my tank, the nozzle doesn't shut off, and gas goes all over me and the ground. Not to mention on the paint of the car, can't be good for the paint. Also it is not good for the environment at a gallon a week on the ground. The 2005 model was recalled for this very same reason, seems reasonable to recall the 2006. This is a very dangerous issue where a spark could end up causing an explosion.
4-8 ounces of gasoline spills every time I fill the tank, whether in automatic mode or trying to minimize flow rate from the pump manually.
During refueling the pump handle will click off then a second later a rush of gasoline will spew out of the fill inlet. This happens every time the tank is filled to full.

We purchased a 2006 Dodge Durango 4x4. The first time we filled the gas tank it never clicked off automatically. This happens every time and causes gas to spill and splash every where. We read this a common problem in 2004 & 2005 and has been fixed by the dealer but we can not get a call back regarding out 2006 vehicle.
Every time we fill up, the gas spills out. By the time the nozzle clicks, it's too late and the fuel gushes out of the tank. My daughter was near me when it happened the first time! I've used various gas stations, but it always happens. It has to be the inlet check valve in the tank. It is not user error. Now I have to sit there forever and pump slow, or just go with half a tank, and in colorado, it's not safe to do that if we break down in the cold and snow. No one fills the tank except me due to obvious safety reasons. I called Dodge years ago and they said it would fall on me to pay for their problem! now, it's just getting annoying that this still has not been resolved even though there are numerous complaints.
The fuel tank overflows at the gas station if filled completely. There is nothing to stop this from happening. I have tried adjusting the way I hold the gasoline nozzle, but nothing seems to make any difference. This is a fire hazard! it is hard to keep if from happening. When it happens, gasoline flies out everywhere, getting all over the vehicle and myself. It is scary. This needs a recall! in addition, the body underneath of the fuel tank has rusted as this has happened numerous times.
When refueling fuel shoots out of gas tank. Mechanism doesn't shut off when full. I consider this very dangerous. It originally occurred about 2 months after the mfgr warranty expired and no recall was made with this year model. Very frustrating as well. Occurs while sitting still next to gas pump, engine off.
Everytime myself or my wife fills up the gas tank, it will not shut off without spewing gas all over the place. We have monitored the recalls for this problem and have seen numerous testimonies to include video of the same issue. The statement released that it's because of operator negligence is completely false. It's to the point that we have to hold the handle at a slow fill speed in order to not lose fuel all over the ground. I have lost gallons worth of fuel not to negate the issue of safety for myself and family everytime the fuel dumps.
When fuelling at a gas station, gas overflows when the tank is full (when the gas pump clicks off). This happens every time I try to fill the tank. Gas overflows onto side of vehicle and onto pavement at gas station. Fuel spill hazard is extremely dangerous. Gas stations are starting to warn me that I cannot cause a fuel spill. Dodge claims they have not heard of this problem. Recall urgently needed before major catastrophe.
When ever you try and fill the gas tank, when it get full it blows all over the place. You try and clean if off but it still has ruined the paint and a couple pair of gloves, that smell never comes out of clothes. This all started at or around 40,000 miles and have been dealing with it for 110,000 miles now.
Every time fill up gas tank it spills over. Not on recall list.
