1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2019

The gas tank overfills when filling the tank. When I fill the tank at the gas station the pump will not shut off until after the tank overflows onto the vehicle and the ground.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving at different speeds, the vehicle shut off. The check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was pulled to the side and was restarted. The contact also stated that while filling up the fuel tank, the pump clicked off at about half tank without filling up. The contact stated that when she attempted to continue filling up the tank, the nozzle splashed out fuel. The failures recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the haddad Dodge ram dealer (661-241-8095, located at 3000 harris rd, bakersfield, CA 93313) where some unknown recalls, including NHTSA campaign number: 16v352000 (air bags) and NHTSA campaign number: 15v313000 (air bags) were repaired. The contact stated that the technician did not reveal the recall parts that there were replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure recurred and the air bags light illuminated occasionally after the recall repairs. The contact stated that the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not provided. Fe.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

Fuel gushing out when filling up tank.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

I can not put gas in the tank. The fuel neck was replaced twice because of the recall. That is not my problem. Very little gas goes in when you engage the fuel pump at the gas station maybe 10 or 12 ounces the the pump clicks off and stops filling. I try it again then slowly put gas in and the fill neck gets full because the tank will not let the gas in and it spits out the fill opening and on the car and ground. I was at costco and the attendant saw my problem and said I had to leave until I get the issue fixed. I was endangering others. I took it to doge were I have my work done and the two fill necks replaced and they said the tank is bad. It needs replaced. At the tune of $1200. 00 plus cost. More people than me have experienced this problem and I can not drive the car without gas. I had another mechanic check it out and said inside of the plastic tank that has a liner in it is coming apart inside which you can not repair caused from the ethonal content in gas has caused this issue. The liner is causing the flap inside the opening of the gas tank that the fuel inlet is attached to not to open and allow fuel to go in the tank. The car is too old to have to put this kind of cash in it when it is apearant that it is a defect in the tank which from on line says it is made in china. Again a bad combination china really!!!. I have already put a few thousand in it for transmission dip stick rust off in the check tube ,oil leaks ,trans slipping ,rear end leaking break calipers, and the list goes on. I have Dodge's since 2000 and Dodge has me as a second class citizen. I had 2000 intrepid 2 Dodge grand caravans and the Durango. Help please.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

The fuel tank check valve has completely failed just like thousands of other Durangos. There is significant (12-16 ounces) gas blowback when the fuel reaches a near full level during refueling. I have tried stopping the pump several times to allow the fuel to settle, different brands of gas and different filler handle positions. The only thing that can prevent this is not filling the tank more than 3/4 full.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

When filling the fuel tank gas spews out the fill port once the tank is full.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2016

Bought a used. 2006 Dodge Durango. First time wife filled tank fuel erupted from fill spout covering her head to foot in gas. Next week I tried filling tank. Again fuel spewed from the filler neck. The pump shuts off automatically then boom. 1/2 to 1 gallons of gasoline is on the ground, side of vehicle and myself. We can only put partial tanks of gas in at a time. As with all refueling trips the vehicle was parked, engine off, sitting beside the pump. The 2005 Durangos were recalled. Why not this year also. Dealer claims warranty work was completed and will only look at vehicle if they charge a fee. This is a vehicle " checked out " by dealer before sale. Apparently they don't care about our safety or the hazard to the environment when close to a gallon in fuel gets dumped on the ground every time it's filled.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2014

As I was refueling I noticed in the pump that it was at 29 gallons but it was still filling up and my tank wasn't empty so right away I knew something was wrong and looked on the bottom that it was spilling all the gas I'm thinking from the inside of the filler neck or hose but from under the car so something is wrong because it didn't stop filling up, thx.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

When refueling the vehicle and filling the tank to full or near full, when the fuel nozzle shuts off automatically, fuel will spray out of the filler neck all over the side of the vehicle and all over the ground and the driver. Approximately 1/3 to 1/2 gallon of fuel will be expelled from the tank. This started after I had about 75000 miles on the vehicle. It will happen every time I fill the car up. As a result I can only fill the tank about 3/4 full. The fuel has destroyed the paint on the side of the car. I have had to drive 20 miles home soaked in gasoline after this has happened. I'm glad no one flipped a cigarette in my direction!.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

Problem when refilling the gas tank. When the tank gets full, fuel sprays out of the gas tank fill port. At first I thought it was faulty equipment at the gas station but it has happened consecutive times at different gas stations. Probably sprays out 8 or 12 ounces.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

The shut off valve has not worked correctly for over the past year. When filling the gas tank gas is spit back on the car and driveway service. This happens even if I pause for a period during filling the tank to let pressure release. My dealer says they have never heard of this, had to believe with so many complaints all over the internet. I would like Dodge to step up and take care of the problem. Help. . . . . . .

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2014

When I filled my car with gas it the pump kicked off but fuel came spilling out from the tank. The fuel spilled over me, the car and the ground. At first I thought it was a one time thing but it has happened numerous times, even when I have not filled the tank completely. This has now caused serious rust around my tank and through the corner panel. It has now rusted through completely. I am afraid of the safety of the tank and filling the tank with gas. Not to mention the cost of lost gas.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2013

Upon first purchasing at a dealership the purchase was as a used vehicle, so no warranty is or was in place. A few months later when filling the tank at a gas station the first incident of propulsion of gasoline forcing out of the tank, first happened. Then a couple of times when trying to start the vehicle the motor would not start. Using an obd to check codes there was no error codes but still ended up clearing it anyways which allowed the vehicle to start (which means its the computer). Now, the front passenger window is down and will not go back up, checked the motor and the motor for the window is fine, but checking the switch it would only unlock door, not allow lock and absolutely no window control at all from either the passenger door switch or driver side switch. When looking at the switches turns out that the circuit boards are not soldered. The only way to get any of the problems fixed for anyone now would be for a recall, because the year being 2014 no warranty will cover any problems that I or anyone else is facing!.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Everytime I fill up or come close to filling up the gas will come shooting out of the tank. It gets all over me, the vehicle and the ground. It can shoot as far as 4 or 5 feet away from the vehicle. I have stopped putting more than 1/2 a tank at a time in it but it is a huge inconvienence to have to stop for gas so much.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Fuel spills out when filling the tank.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2013

I recently purchased a 2006 Durango with some rust bubbles below the gasoline fill up door. On research of this issue I found 372 complaints regarding the fuel/propulsion system - spitting out gasoline when being filled at a gas station out of 553 total complaints via NHTSA. I have only had my vehicle a week and have not yet filled the tank. Now very leery of filling the tank for fear of being covered with gasoline, polluting the environment, causing an explosion, injuring/killing nearby innocent bystanders, including myself. In the case of a potentially dangerous situation such as this, there is liability as with any safety hazard. Besides the numerous complaints, there are videos on popular sites demonstrating the gas spit back yet there are no investigations reported regarding this complaint and only 2 service bulletins regarding this complaint. It makes me sick to think that I or some other Durango owner could accidentally cause a mass fatality at a gas station if some unsuspecting person uses their cell phone or lights up. What about the health of the person pumping the gas? last I heard gasoline showers are very toxic. Why is there no investigation on this concern?.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

When filling up the vehicle with fuel the pumps do not shut off when it is full and the gasoline spills outside of the vehicle, sometimes violently. This happens almost every time I fill the vehicle and is extremely dangerous! luckily the first time I was inside of the gas station when it happened and it shot out everywhere and soaked a 3-4 foot radius from the gas tank. This last time I filled up it sprayed a fine mist everywhere and it spilled all down the side of the vehicle.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2013

After filling fuel tank a lot of fuel sprays out of top of filler neck and spills down the side of the vehicle. Sometimes it sprays out a few feet away and can get all over you. It happens every time the tank is filled up. There is a recall for this exact problem with the 2005 model but not one for the 2006 model.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

When filling with gas to capacity fuel sprays out of the gas tank all over the car, the ground and me. Obvious safety and environmental hazard.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2013

I was filling my car and once it was filled the gas forcefully came back out of the tank and covered my coat pants and shoes. I am so angry, this has happened on other time that I completely filled my tank. The gas should not be coming back out of the tank. # 1 - I am now covered in gas, this is a huge safety issue, # gas is all over the side of my vehicle, huge safety issue, #3 gas is all over the ground at the service station, huge safety issue. This problem has been recalled in the 2005 Dodge Durango and I feel that my car is experiencing the same issues. I think that if Dodge does not want a law suit they would fix the problem.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2012

I have a 2006 Dodge Durango, when filling the fuel tank gas spews out of the filler neck when approaching full. I have researched this problem and have found that there was a recall on numerous Chrysler makes and models, indicating the problem is with a faulty inlet check valve in the fuel tank. Only certain specific VIN numbers are covered under the recall despite the fact that thousands of documented complaints have been recorded. Chrysler has denied that this is an ongoing manufacture defect, I assume to keep from having to spend potentially millions of dollars to correct the problem. This not only a fire hazard, but an environmental hazard a well. Please take the appropriate steps to require the Chrysler corporation to include any vehicles with this defect in an updated recall. Thank you.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2012

Over the last 12 and 1/2 months, it has been an issue with filling the gas tank. Each time that I fill up my tank, the gas will either spill back out from under the car, spout out like it is spraying in the air or it will just come back out and roll down the sides of the truck. This has become a continuing issue and when I called the Dodge place within my area, they claimed to not know of this being a problem or a recall. But as I started my research, I located many people in my same predicament.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2012

Upon filling fuel tank gas will emit from the filling area. Happens at all gas stations no matter the filling speed. I understand there is a recall for the 2005 model but why not the 2006?.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

Filling gas tank. When the pump kicks off at full I get gas kicking back out of tank. Actually its alot of gas all over side of vehicle and ground. If im holding gas nozzle I get gas on my arm. I just bought this vehicle and don't know if previous owner made complaints. This happens each time I fill tank. ## VIN passed ## Dodge Durango 2006 ##.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2012

When filling my vehicle at the gas station, the gas will overflow or spit out of the tank instead of stopping normally when the tank nears full level. This happens no matter how slowly I am refueling. There is already a recall for this exact issue on the 05 models but there still is not one for the 06 even though there are several complaints just like this. This is a very dangerous fire hazard that needs to be dealt with before something terrible happens.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2012

While filling up with gas, gas started spewing out of the tank. I was covered head to toe in gas and it was flowing down the pavement at the gas station. What if someone had discarded a lit cigarette? I have since discovered that this is an issue with a lot of the Dodge Durango's. It should be recalled! it has happened 4 times since then.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

When filling fuel tank, when tank is full, gas will spill out filler neck. The spilled gas splashes everywhere, and has been on the body below the filler neck enough times that it has caused the paint to lift, and a rust hole to form in the fender. No other rust on vehicle.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2012

Interior lights never go off and has arecall. The dealership tells me it takes seven days to get the part and have it programmed. This is unaceptable since this is my only transportation. This vehicle also has three other recalls that the dealership didn't tell me about. I think they are making this difficult so that customers will not get thier recalls done. There is also a recall on a suspension part that could cause an crash- wipers and lights- and filling the gas tank is a royal pain in the . . . . . . . . The fuel spits back out at you before your tank is full. These are all safety hazards that Dodge needs to address with no cost or inconvienance for the owner. If these recalls are not repaired there is a reasonable chance that life threatening events could occur. Not sure why the Dodge company allows these dealerships to do this to thier customer. I suggest that every person who has had problems complain to the company as well as this site ------- may be someone will do something.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2012

When filling up the gas tank on this vehicle the gasoline spilled over and out of the gas tank. It has done that almost everytime I try to fill this Durango up at the gas station.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

This Durango had spewed gas during fill up ever since purchased 11/2006, so I just tried to be careful when filling. April 2012, I had some rust fixed around the rear wheel area on the gas tank side. Did not really think too much about it at the time. 1/29/14 I had an inlet check valve replaced at the dealership due to notification from Chrysler and they said this could be a safety issue. Thought then that this defect is probably what caused my rust issue but I had had that fixed so did not think anything about it. . . . Until it started to rust again in the same area. This is a without a doubt caused by the faulty inlet check valve. I believe Chrysler intentionally did not notify their clients until the 100,000 mile rust warranty was up. They will not stand behind the resulting damage from the faulty inlet check valve.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

Fuel tank overflows during fill up. Spilling tons of gas. Because of the overflow there is a lot of rust forming on body were gas tank is. I have taken it to body shop to see about getting the rust fixed but said would have to replace that whole area because rust ate through. To be honest I thought I was doing something wrong when filling up at the gas station or something was wrong with the pump for a long time until I started researching on internet. I just spoke to Dodge dealer and they told me that this is a new problem that Dodge just extended the warrenty on so we can get the fuel part fixed. My problem is that we almost have this paid for and would like to keep for a few more years, has low miles, but the rust around gas tank is bad. I think there should be some help from Dodge on getting this fixed since it was their fault.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2011

Filling up with gas the nozzle clicks and a few seconds later gas will shoot out of the tank.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

Fuel spews out of the fuel filler tube after the automatic fuel shutoff stops fuel flow into the tank. There is a one or two second lag before the fuel spews out after shutoff. Fuel spills onto the car, the ground and the person filling the tank if they happen to be removing the pump nozzle at that moment. The problem has persisted with each successive fillup since the initial incident.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2011

Every time I fill up my gas tank since purchasing this vehicle last year my fuel tank sprays out gas after the gas pump shuts off. Even if I don't use the gas pump auto shutoff while filling as soon as the tank is full it sprays gas out and also pours down the side of my vehicle onto the ground. I always need to take windshield washer fluid and wash off my vehicle and pour it onto the ground so there is not a puddle of gas sitting on the ground. Now I only fill my tank 1/2 full when fueling to avoid this issue.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

Since July of 2011 and every gas station stop since then my wife and I avoid filling up our tank, as this vehicle does not stop flow of gas at any pump when it reaches full. Instead it gurgles up and spray fuel back at the person filling tank (me usually), down side of vehicle and of course all over the ground. After reviewing other reports, it is apparent there are major and consistent issues of this type for the 2006 Durango and recalls for same issue, only for 2005 model. Since then everytime we fill up, it is a guessing game how close, and I run back and forth from pump handle to interior gas gauge, back to pump handle and so on. I'm sure it's amusing to everyone else that doesn't own this Chrysler product.
