While coming back from putting gas down the street, my alternator fail and began to smoke. The car then lost all power luckily on the street I lived in. I replaced the alternator and starter but still couldn't keep battery charging. Battery is about six months since I purchased it. Recall has been made but VIN number is not included even though the recall specifically states the 2012 Dodge Durango model.

4 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

We have taken my SUV in for this starter issue for almost as long as we have had it. It acts as though it is starting but wont turn over. We have to pop out the push to start button and manually turn the car off for it to stop. It does this multiple times in a row before starting. Finally after 4 or 5 visits for the issue, Dodge says its some fuel pump relay so they fixed that, but the problem returned. The car completely stalled one day while we were driving, and it stopped turning on. We lost all power, no power steering, and every light illuminated on the dash board. This happened as we were exiting the dallas north tollway. . . Luckily we were exiting! we were able to pull off the side of the road, we had the car towed to the dealership. This occurred in Nov/Dec 2017. Over a period of about 4-6 weeks, they replaced the pcm and cat converter (both) and alternator. Now 4. 5 months later the problem has returned with starter constantly turning over, its happened 2 days in a row now. We have to travel daily 20 miles each way down the i30 corridor in the dfw area . We are afraid that the car will just stall going down the freeway. All signs point to a tipm problem, but the dealership is unwilling to replace.

The vehicle was later towed to the northtown Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram dealer (2020 niagara falls blvd, tonawanda, NY 14150; 716-692-7000) where it was diagnosed that the starter failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle then showed a code indicating "misfire cylinder 4" while at the dealer. The contact received a call from the dealer stating that the failure (including the flames underneath the hood) recurred. The dealer extinguished the flames and diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. 8 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

I bought my 2012 Dodge Durango 3 weeks and it is not starting properly. I used the keyless remote entry and starter but the car will not start or sounds like the starter is stuck. I have to turn off the car and try again. It will normally take 4-5 tries just to get the car started and it depends if it will continue to run. I am not happy with this and noticed multiple people have the same problems.

9 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2015

Most times when I go to start the truck it will not start. If it does start it dies immediately. When I try to start it again, the starter seems to get stuck, so I turn the key off and have to try it again. Eventually it will start and run normal. Just this morning, I went to move the vehicle, and it had no power. Once I hooked up the jumper cables I could hear a humming noise, which I assume would be the fuel pump, as I have read many complaints online about it not turning off due to the tipm. After I started it and let it run for a while I shut it off and could still here the fuel pump. I should not have to pull the fuse so that my battery will not die due to a defective part. I just got this truck a little over 2 months ago and have had the starting problem since I've got it. Now I got this fuel pump issue. I should not have to pay for something that Chrysler is aware of and, at this point, has chose not to do anything about.

10 Starter problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2014

When try to start car. The starter hung up and wouldn't start. Starter kept turning over but would not start. Like vehicle was not getting any fuel to engine. Has done this 7 times since Dec 2014.

My 2012 Dodge Durango at approximate 45000 miles began to have problems starting. It will turn over and stall multiple times before starting. It will also turn the starter continually with out starting at all. Also it has had one incident to date of stalling while driving on highway. I was traveling at 65 miles per hour on turnpike when the car stalled for no known reason and I lost use of the gas pedal. After pulling to the side of highway I had to turn key off and restart to continue.

12 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

Starter won't engage after 4 or 5 attempts to turn the key, engine started. Tipm had to be replaced. Took car to be serviced at Dodge dealer 2 two times reporting that car will only start after 4 or 5 attempts. After 36k miles warranty expired took car to mechanic and he replaced tipm, car is running fine now.

13 Starter problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

2012 Dodge Durango, 5. 7. Hemi, keyless start, auto transmission. Since vehicle was relatively new, would occasionally not start, starter would engage, but to ignition. Within the last 2 months has gotten worse, now approximately 70% of the time, vehicle will not start using the push to start. If lock the vehicle and use remote start from the key fob, will 95% of time start. Must then unlock the vehicle and press the push to start button. Sometimes the engine will at this point run rough and stall. Must then repeat the process. Rarely the key will not be detected while in the vehicle. Either key fob is the same and they have new cr2032 batteries in them. Tipm is at fault. Vehicle now has approximately 57,000 miles on it.
