1 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

Racetrack light bar has failed twice since purchasing this car. The same bulb has went out and in order to pass inspection I need to replace the whole thing. I've had this vehicle for 2 years.

2 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

The driver side daylight running light went out prematurely.

3 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2024

The rear tail light racetrack assembly gasket has permitted water intrusion, with currently about an inch of water having collected in the light. The lower segments of the led lights have failed, posing a safety risk due to reduced visibility, as well as a fire risk. In addition, the rear license plate led module has failed, likely due to this water intrusion, requiring replacement no less than 4 times since I have owned this vehicle (since 2015). This repair is costly, roughly $300 each time. It was just replaced in November of 2024, and has already failed.

4 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2024

The “racetrack” tail light on my wifes Durango is completely burnt out due to water infiltration in the assembly, which is a now known issue for multiple drivers of a Durango. With that being said, since it’s been burnt out, my wife has almost been rear ended 3 times now and I believe it could have something to do with 90% of tail lights that is equipped with the vehicle is now burnt out due to a flaw in manufacturing. It is also a $1000+ repair being you have to replace the entire assembly. Her application of the brakes would be more well known if the entire assembly illuminated and make safer driving conditions for her and others. I understand the product needs replaced but with it being a now known flaw, I don’t believe it should be at the expenses of the vehicle owners.

5 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2023

Due to the 2014 Dodge Durango not having a proper seal on them the race track light on my 2014 Dodge Durango has been halfway burnt out and there is no reason for me to have to pay $1200 when this is a safety hazard this should be a recalled this is ridiculous. It is not safe it could cause electrical fire a short I’ve worked for emergency services and I will tell you now if your lights on the back of your car do not work properly, it is very highly dangerous.

6 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2023

The rear light bar in my vehicle has repeatedly failed in my nine years of ownership. It first occurred in 2015 under the 36,000-mile warranty, followed by three more failures every two years, with the latest at 84,000 miles in 2024. This issue is tied to a design flaw. The light bar is prone to water ingress, causing light source failure and attributed to a manufacturing defect by the dealership. The cost of replacement is $2,100, and arapahoe Dodge in centennial, CO, acknowledges it as a widespread problem in Dodge vehicles with this part. Despite replacements, the issue persists, calling for a recall to redesign and replace the faulty units. Functioning as a crucial safety component in the braking system, the failure of the brake light significantly increases the risk of rear-end collisions. I initiated a ticket with Chrysler, but the representative lacked knowledge. Suggestions of a factory technician assisting at the dealership were met with uncertainty. There are no warning signs before the led fails, with water accumulation being the only indicator. In summary, the recurring failure of the light bar poses a significant safety risk, acknowledged by the dealership. The cost of replacement is substantial, warranting a recall for redesign. Communication gaps with Chrysler and the lack of warning signs compound the issue, emphasizing the urgency for resolution.

7 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2023

Center hatch led strip light leak causing led to go out and back up camera to stop working. Causes hazardous conditions for backing up with camera not working and hazardous conditions while driving because don’t know if the short in few of led lights will cause all tail light/brake lights to short out also.

8 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2023

Durango has hid headlights. Sometimes one or both headlights do not come on. It is not the headlight bulbs. This is an intermittent problem. Sometimes left doesn't light and sometimes right doesn't light. Safety of driving at night to my family and anyone else on the road is compromised! many reports of this same problem on cars and trucks with hid headlights. The problem has been reproduced at dealer.

9 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2023

Dodge Durango race track tail light. Whole lower left side bulb out and license plate lights due to water entering that area. When you lift the truck water pours out of the light area. Dangerous to drive not sure when the whole light will give out. This is a defect on tons of Durango’s and is a safety hazard to drive. You never know when the whole light will go out do to this defect. Some will get in a accident because of this. If some can’t see your brake light especially at night this will cause a accident! in addition the police pull you over for a bad light and now no license plate lights due to this water issue .

10 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2022

Internal failure of catalytic converter and body control module.

11 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2022

The taillight has been getting water inside and there is no way for the water to get out. The water is taking my led's. This should be a defect on Dodge since they made it. I speak on the other Dodge owners that this needs to be fixed or recalled on this issue.

12 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2022

2014 Dodge Durango r/t- water pooled in the drivers side rear light, causing the led's to short out. I called the dealership and it is well over a thousand dollars to replace this. The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the front windshield lining was cracked which caused water to seep into the glove compartment. Additionally, the exterior tailgate door lights were inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty since 2018. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

16 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

The taillight assembly leaks and fills up with water. It is available for inspection. The taillight shorts out and does not work. The potential of being rear ended is very high; threatening the lives of those in the car and those in the car behind it. Many other Dodge Durango owners have the same problem. The car has not been inspected by others. No warning lamps or symptoms. But every time it rains it is best to loosen the taillight assembly to drain as much water as possibly to prevent the malfunction again.

17 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

Water in center section of factory brake lamp assembly. This causes less to burn out and are not replaceable bulbs. Only fox is to replace the light completely.

18 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2021

1st all of the interior lights won’t turn off no matter what you do. Doors all closed locked still stay on while driving can’t manually switch them off 2nd yesterday I went to pick up my daughter at school and the car all of a sudden just stopped running. It won’t start. Before it would do that and I had to exit the vehicle and use the remote start. Tried it this time and it said fob deactivated and just beeped. Then the alarm went off and wouldn’t turn off. When the alarm finally stopped the radio turned on for no reason but the car still won’t start. Fob has a new battery still won’t start. This car isn’t even old and only has 60,000 miles on it. Lucky I was pulling over and parking I could have died. Apparently this is a known issue it had to happen to me for me to find out about it. You’ll do a recall for cruise control but not this!!!’ crazy this car is a defective death trap. It’s sitting on the curb in front of the house now since I had to have it towed home. I’m not driving it ever again.

19 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2021

The long rear tailgate lamp (called the chmsl) suffers from water intrusion which results in led failure. This is a reoccurring issue. I am now trying to get this lamp replaced for the 4th or 5th time (yes, I've lost track because it's ridiculous!) Dodge should do a recall and hold the lighting manufacturer accountable as it is a common problem over many years of vehicles. Why should the consumer be burdened with having to replace this lamp every 1-2 years?? lighting is a safety feature! failure of led's is a safety failure. This is an automatic recall so why hasn't a recall been issued?? nothing on the vehicle system tells you the led's are out. This affects visibility and can lead to accident, injury or death.

20 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

Seatbelt for driver no longer retracts or locks when brake is applied. Doesn't retract back when vehicle is off and seatbelt is removed just flops. Back lift gate opens and then closes and suspends halfway will hit your head if you're standing under it. Interior overhead lights do not turn off while vehicle is in motion and running. Don't turn off for about 5-10 minutes after vehicle turned off and is locked.

21 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

Driver side headlamp. Ballast assembly defect and missing headlamp seal. Dealer says the problem is not the light but the who;e assembly needs to be replaced for $2600. Looked online and many others have the same problem with the drivers side headlamp.

22 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

Water collects in the racetrack tailight.

23 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

Our 2014 Dodge Durango rt awd taillight is taken on water when it rains or even going thru car wash causing light to short in spots which is a safety concern for possible fire hazards, wrecks there needs to be a recall by manufacturer to have to replaced.

24 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2020

Rear center "racetrack" light takes in rain runoff and condensation forms in the low sections on the driver and passenger sides of the racetrack, causing the leds to burn out.

25 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2020

Rear light bar began cracking on its own. Moisture and water is going inside of it and could cause a shortage. Contacted Dodge but they state they can't do anything and I just have to buy a new one on my own but it is over $1000 new.

26 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2020

Noticed water inside the center rear taillight. Took the lower corner bolts out and tons of water pours out any time the car gets wet (car wash, rain storm etc). Parts of the led light are going out because of the water intrusion. I make sure to drain the water whenever the car gets wet, and to not turn the lights on when there may be water inside the housing. Of course, you can't replace the bulb inside, you have to buy an entire center taillight for over $1,000. 00!!! wont be long and the entire light will be burnt out. Now, since I live in wyoming where we have nasty winters, and the water intrusion keeps getting worse, the water has frozen inside the taillight and cracked the lens, creating more water intrusion! terrible design. I have read hours of forums about this issue. It is very very common on 2014-2019 Durangos. There is no fix for the issue. Some have gotten extended warranties to pay for a new taillight, then, a month later, they have water inside the light and a burnt out light again. What happens when the light goes out and I am in the middle of a nasty blizzard; I can't go buy a new bulb to put in it and I definitely can't go buy a new taillight at $1k just to have it do the same thing. Dodge needs to fix this issue. The lights need to be recalled and replaced with a reliable design.

27 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2020

My 2014 Dodge durange center racetrack lighting took on water and cause an electrical smell throughout my vehicle. I couldn't locate the trouble area until this light burned out. At 46,000 miles, I feel this is an unacceptable issue to be facing. I wasn't aware of this is until researching just last night. If it is a known issue, I would have watched the trouble area or been proactive to reduce the possibility of reaching this point where it doesn't work with an estimated $1,000 to fix.

28 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2020

Water is entering the rear track lighting and it has shorted out. This happens when it is stationary.

29 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2020

Rear center taillight shorted out due to water leaking in due to manufacturing defect.

30 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

I am writing to you regarding what I consider to be a safety issue with my 2014 Dodge Durango. I got into my car to go to work, started the car and as it was running I smelled electrical burning. I looked around the inside and outside of the car. I noticed the rear track lights had parts of the lights that weren't lit up. I looked closer and there was water in the lights. When I first viewed the vehicle, I liked the added safety feature of the back being lit. I am experiencing condensation and water collecting inside the lights, resulting in the lights failing. I know that many other Durango owners are experiencing this same issue and have similar concerns. Please see carpcomplaints. Com. I am asking that Dodge recognize this manufacturing issue and design flaw, and have the tracking lighting fixed, at no cost to the vehicle owner. I had first contacted mopar/Dodge customer care. The response was that my vehicle was out of warranty and also past some undefined small window when Dodge would assist with the cost of repair. Customer care reference #74976328. Apparently Dodge does not consider this to be a manufacturing defect. Again, I refer to the high number of complaints regarding this issue that are easily accessible on-line. And I have only mentioned one site. I would be interested to know how many such complaints Dodge has directly received. The customer care email indicates that if Dodge's on-going internal investigations show this to in fact be a manufacturing defect, they will contact me. I have no reason to believe that general on-going internal investigations will include an investigation into the rear external light issue. I am hopeful that this safety issue will be looked into. Thank you very much for your consideration.

31 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2020

Continued and persistent water infiltration into rear 'racetrack' tail lamp assembly. Occurs during all situations, whether stationary or driving. Water can be drained by removing lamp mounting bolts, but damage to internal lamp has already been done and this does nothing to prevent reoccurrence.

32 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Rear tail light accumulates water causing a portion of the led lights to burn out.

33 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2019

Vehicle stalled on highway when going over 40 mph. Water gets into left rear light and causes rear lights to go out.

34 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2019

A section of the lift-gate racing lights is out. It is a sealed unit so you have to purchase the entire racing light assembly. It is extremely expensive, approximately $1200 just for the assembly itself. After some investigation it appears this is a common problem with Dodge Durango's. Water enters the sealed unit (apparently because it is not sealed properly) and causes the led light to burn out. Given the common occurrence of this issue Dodge should issue a recall to fix this problem.

35 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2019

Rear led litigate light collects water inside unit and burns out the led. This the third time it had happened. Light was replaced twice already.
