2 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

I purchased my 2005 Dodge Durango, 5. 7l hemi, used from a dealership. A check engine light came on and I took it in for service and they flushed my transmission fluid and said that if it did it again they would try replacing the selenoid in the transmission. After that, the engine would just shut off while driving - mostly when I was just starting out, but one time it just died (no warnings) when I was doing 70 mph down the highway! now my car is starting to buck (feels like you hit something) at @ 45 mph - not when accelerating, stepping on the gas or decelerating, but rather when staying at a steady rate of speed. I have young children, my husband works out of state, and I fear for our lives every time we drive this vehicle! it is my only form of transportation and I have a loan on it! I have read hundreds of complaints about these same type of symptoms. I want to know why Dodge has not done anything about it! the federal government bailed them out before, now it's time they take responsibility and recall these cars and get them fixed before people start dieing! they are blatantly ignoring a known problem!.

4 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

2005 Dodge Durango stalls several times a week at low speeds, while braking, turning, parking. This has happened on curves, sending us into oncoming traffic since power steering goes out. This has happened in a school parking lot several times, creating a hazard. No particular date, as many incidents have occurred. Taken it in to Dodge twice for service and they tell us that nothing is wrong. Obviously they are wrong as this has been reported before. We want this fixed. We like the truck otherwise. It would be great if we felt completely safe in it, but this is hard to do when it stalls with no warning.

5 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

This has been an ongoing issue with our Durango. The first time it happened was about one month after I bought it used with approx 60k miles on it. It is totally at random. I'm always able to pop it into neutral and start it back up again as if nothing ever happened. The biggest problem with this is not only that the engine totally shuts off(as if that isn't a huge issue initself), but that the power steering/power brakes go out as well making the possibility of an accident a huge issue. It has always had a stutter when driving. After taking it to the dealer, being told they couldn't replicate the problem or pull any codes. In order for them to find the problem I would have to pay them to locate their defect. At this point Dodge needs to resolve this since I am not the only one experiencing this huge safety issue. I urge everyone to also submit this problem to the NHTSA.

6 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

Transmission in my 1999 Dodge Durango has begun to slip and its pulling hard. It won't go into 2nd or 3rd without me depress the gas pedal. I've tried transmission fix lubricant, changed the fluid and filter, and tuneup. I've been reading from several websites that people are having the same problem with the transmission and Dodge won't do anything about it. People work too hard to have their vehicles maintained and getting a rebuilt or brand new one will cost thousands of dollars that normal people like myself don't have. Is it anything you can do about this so that people like myself can have a peace of mind knowing that the transmission is in working condition and its safe.

8 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Since purchase of 2000 (new) Dodge Durango 5. 9l 4 wheel drive, the transmission has been serviced several times at great amounts of cost. I rarely use 4 wheel drive and take care of each required service. On the internet I notice several similar/same complaints. The 4 wheel drive light stuck on and the transmission is stuck in 4 wheel with no indication of going into 2 wheel/neutral or other wise.

9 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/04/2010

2005 Dodge Durango - 5. 7 hemi v8 - the engine stalls at low speeds while turning - usually starts up after letting it sit for 10 minutes - has done this repeatedly - symptoms are identical to investigation #ea05018.

10 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/30/2009

My 2004 Dodge Durango stalls frequently. . . Almost daily. I took the vehicle to the dealer after the first incident and the technicians were stumped and seemed unaware of the issue, which I have since learned is not uncommon. The stalls frequently occur at parking lot speeds, but have occurred while doing 50 km/hr and while under power. The higher speed stalls are a concern as the stall also kills power braking and steering. To restart the vehicle, you have to put it in n and turn ignition. So far, that has worked each time, but at speed this can be a little unnerving to say the least. Dodge stated that a eec flash was available, but that it did not address stalling, only shifting issues and therefore it was not required. Dodge has so far indicated there is nothing that can be done. I am dating the information below with the most recent incident because it was the first time it has occurred at higher speed, but it has been stalling without warning at least once a day for the last 2 weeks.

11 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/20/2009

While driving in 4 wheel drive I reversed heard a clunk. Thought I hit something saw nothing that I could have hit. Put it into drive and drove for a few minutes had to back up again and found I had no reverse. I was able to get where I needed but found that the forward gears were now not cooperating. Called transmission shops and every one of them stated that it is a common problem for Dodge transmissions especially those in the Durango. It is a 2000 Dodge Durango with about 150000. I believe if a Toyota or an older Dodge call last more than 250000 then these newer was should last longer with our supposed better technology.

12 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/20/2009

My 2005 Dodge Durango is stalling when the speed is reduced. I have had near miss accidents exiting the interstate and slowing down to make a turn. This has been an ongoing problem. I have taken the vehicle in to the dealership, but they could not determine the problem. Help please!!!!.

13 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/22/2009

Vehicle stalled out while slowing and turning into parking lot, vehicle stalled after backing down driveway stopping and starting to put into drive, vehicle stalled while pulling to a stop in a parking lot, check engine light has come on and went off several times by itself and the last time by having an advanced auto worker pull the code and clear it. The code states the problem is a transmission fluid pressure sensor. I just purchased this vehicle and of course it is just over 80,000 miles on it now. The vehicle is a 2005 Dodge Durango. I called a friend who is a mechanic to see if he could fix the problem due to not having the money to take it to a dealership. The friend has told me that Dodge has had a lot of these types of problems with the Durango. My vehicle has yet to be repaired.

14 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/20/2009

I had a recall completed on 2/20/09. Prior to recall I was not experiencing any issues w/ my vehicle. Since the recall I have noticed that my vehicle is doing the exact thing they were supposed to have corrected in the recall. The recall was for the shift interlock lever to keep the vehicle from being able to be taken out of park w/out the vehicle running. At this point the vehicle is easy to steal & presents a risk to anyone who might be in the area if it does come out of park when I am not in the vehicle.

15 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/15/2009

Dodge Durango 2004 lost all function pulling into parking lot. Lost engine, brakes, steering, electrical. Liken it to a power plug being pulled out and instantaneous loss of all control. Was able to restart without mishap. Took it to nearest Dodge dealership only to no avail. They couldn't find anything wrong. Took the car home only to have it happen the very next morning again during deceleration to a street light. Took it to a different Dodge dealership. Found nothing wrong. But changed the battery in the event low voltage was the issue. Power cut out again during a deceleration and turning a slight right at a fork in the road. This time with entire family onboard. Loss of steering, and brakes. But instrument panel stayed lit. And all heat radio. Will not try driving again until solved. Note: nothing was done to the car before incidents started to occur. No oil change, car wash, pothole, break-in. Nothing. Lost all faith in "certified" Dodge mechanics as they can't even look up the issue and confirm similar occurrence. I've found several via limited internet search. No solutions however.

16 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that as he started the vehicle, the brake, check engine, and anti lock brake warning lights all illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle but with very limited power. The vehicle was resistant to acceleration yet the engine exhibited an abnormal increase in rpms. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was told that the transmission would need to be rebuilt. The transmission was rebuilt. The brake and check engine lights continued to illuminate and the vehicle was taken to a second independent repair shop where the brakes were replaced. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 140,000.

17 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

18 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/16/2008

Nighttime. Pouring rain. Turned a corner in a parking lot and the power steering just quit. Turned car off and restarted. Power steering was back. First and only time it happened so far.

19 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/14/2008

I own a 1999 Dodge Durango, and like many, almost scary amounts of other Dodge customers, am having numerous issues with this vehicle which provide extreme safety hazards to the drivers and occupants. One of which is an upper ball joint issue, which was recalled on the 2000 model year, but not other years with the same design flaw. Another of which is the automatic transmission not shifting properly, or at all rendering the vehicle 'in neutral' at times while in traffic. Also, a problem, which is starting to occur involves the vehicle to shut down out of nowhere in traffic, leaving the driver to try to navigate this beast to the side of the road without power brakesw/steering etc. If you search the internet, you will find literally thousands of people with these problems, severely endangering every man, woman and child who occupy these trucks. Dodge dealers constantly give owners a runaround and deny they have heard any other claims of these problems. These trucks are unsafe! Chrysler needs to know that, and do something about it!.

20 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/26/2008

2 different problems with 2005 Dodge Durango transmission. First problem. Car slips into reverse from drive if the car is bumped slightly by opening door or is on a hill. I was pinned between my car and a wall while trying to get out of the car while it was in park because it slipped into reverse after I got out of the car. 2nd problem, transmission coil rusted after 2 years and the car started sputtering like it was about to die. Had to have it towed to dealer and paid $900. 00 to have the coils and seals changed and the whole transmission tuned up for it to run.

21 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/10/2008

Stalling when stop at light or making a turn. When switching gears it takes a longer time than usual to get in gear. Several times truck would not start at all, roadside assistance check battery which wasn't the problem.

22 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/18/2008

Driving at highway speeds, transmission will not properly shift. Runs to about 3500- 4000 rpms doing 45mph and fails to shift. Have not had a chance to take to a dealer will update when dealership is notified.

23 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that the vehicle would shift gears automatically. When the vehicle was in reverse, it would shift into drive and the shifter light on the instrument panel would flicker. Most recently, when the vehicle was placed into park, it began to move forward. As a result, the vehicle struck a pole. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was approximately 75,000 and failure mileage was approximately 74,500.

24 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/20/2008

I purchased my Durango in Feb. 08 and the first incident was about one week later. I was taking my 3 children to school making a right hand turn into the parking lot when I suddenly could not hardly turn my steering wheel , I looked at the dash and realized that my engine had stalled. Then I restarted the car and continued on my way. I called the car dealership to report it. The following week I took it the dealership to get the breaks worked on and mentioned the problem again and they said without an engine light on they would not be able to detect the problem. After my break work was completed I left the dealership to go home and on my way up a hill behind a semi truck going slow about 15 mph my Durango stalled again and I was almost rear ended by a van. I turned around to head back to the dealership to have it looked at and they said the same thing about the dash light being on. So I preceded to go home. About a week or so later again making a right hand turn into a parking lot my Durango stalled again. Happened a couple more times over the next few weeks and I took it to the dealership again 180 miles round trip. I spent 6 hours waiting for them to fix it and they could not so they sent me on my way and about 3 miles down the road my engine light finally came on and my Durango stalled again when I slowed down to return to the dealership to show them know the light is on. They hooked it up to the computer and fixed the problem and I returned home. I thought the problem had been solved but about 2 weeks later I had my three children in the Durango and I was making a left hand turn off the highway on to a side street when it stalled as on coming traffic was coming at me and I almost got hit . I know do not let my children ride in this vehicle because it is not safe. Again the dealership I bought it from does not know how to fix it and cannot help me.

25 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/14/2008

27 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/17/2007

Vehicle stalls at low speeds and when turning. Immediately restarts. Had local dealer look at it, but they can't fix the problem. Factory customer service is no help. Have read many other complaints about same condition online.

28 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/13/2007

2004 Durango limited stalled while braking twice. Stalled once at a stop light. Has the 5. 7l hemi engine with 50k miles. Took it to dealer to have it looked at. Was told they could not get it to stall and we would have to keep an eye out for it. Then I found the TSB on line detailing the issue. Thus I find it odd that the dealer didn't know about the issue: TSB # 18-013-05 NHTSA action number ea05018.

29 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/16/2007

Our 2004 Dodge Durango was in our driveway in park, the engine turned off, radio on, both front doors open and keys still in the ignition. The truck had been sitting there for 5 minutes or more till I got my neighbor to help me unload a grill out of the back. My wife hopped into the passenger side to turn the radio down when the truck began to roll forward while in "park". My wife was knocked out of the truck and was hurt badly on her leg and it ran into my neighbor's car then rolled into the street. I ran after the truck to stop it from going any further, I stepped on the brake then looked at the shift handle and it was still in "park".

30 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/16/2007

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango that has been in the shop 3 times for a "rough idle" and the dealership says they can't feel it, and don't know what it is, although it has died on me several times. Also, I just found out I need a new rack and pinion and it isn't covered under warranty. It has 54,000 miles and I have a 70,000 powertrain warranty, but apparently, it isn't covered.

31 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/22/2007

As vehicle was put into drive to leave mostly empty new parking lot which was almost completed except landscaping by new major store chain, engine revved up and down on its own. About 5 to 10 seconds later, engine accelerated to full throttle on its own. Pushing full down on brakes couldn't stop or even slow down vehicle. From start of incident, vehicle accelerated from 5 to about 30 mph before final impact. 2005 Dodge Durango struck/went over two 8" curbs of parking lot islands, went over pile of 75 20' pvc pipes and 15 pieces of 20' metal framing materials, hit and smashed through 2 pplates of 12"x12"x2" concrete paving blocks, causing 3 workers to dive out of path, and then finally smashed into l rear wheel of industrial size "cherry picker" smashing full front end, breaking l axle, bending frame of vehicle, and causing driver air bag to deploy, before it came to a complete stop.

32 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/14/2007

I have a 2001 Durango. I have always been up to date with tuneups and fluid changes. Within the past few months I've been having transmission trouble. More and more it has been slipping. I'm afraid I'm heading for a large repair bill. Did I mention it has only 63000 miles on it. I'm dumping it before it gets any worse.
