6 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/03/2020

Portion of brake light (known as race track lighting) that is located on rear hatch portion of vehicle has been infiltrated by water due to faulty gasket material and rendered portion of light inoperable. Entire assembly must be replaced at a cost of $1100 at dealer. Have mopar maxcare warranty and will not be covered. Also spoke to Dodge customer care and they could not open a case on it due to the age/mieage on the vehicle. This has been a reoccurring issue on 2014+ Dodge Durango's as well as other models that use this racetrack lighting. To reiterate, the light is not damaged on the exterior in any way, was not modified by anyone in any way. . . . . It is an inherent flaw in the design of he lighting and gasket used to keep it water proof that caused this failure.

11 Brake Light problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/19/2018

My vehicle has below 11,000 miles and has water pooled in the backup lamp assembly (racetrack light) in the rear of the vehicle. This is causing the led's to flicker and short out at random. This assembly is also the center brake light for the vehicle. Without being corrected this issue will lead to the entire assembly to fail.

12 Brake Light problem of the 2015 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

The lense on the center brake light (race track light), apparently has a defective gasket, allowing the brake lights to fill with water and cause them to go out. I only have 22,000 miles on this car, it's my baby! it will be awhile before I can fix this, as it will be over $1000 to repair. Ridiculous! safety doesn't seem to be much of a concern for Dodge.

13 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

The entire brake light (panels) had water leak in them causing water to back up in plastic cover shorting out the break lights and causing condensation on the rest of the brake panels. This happens when it rains or car is getting washed or any time water touches back brake lights.

14 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/05/2018

The rear hatch taillight/brake light assembly, also known as the "race track" light, collects water somehow inside of the assembly. I have found water inside of the assembly after any volume of rain, be it a drizzle or a downpour, and after any length of carwashing. I'm not talking about a small bit of water either. Due to the water accumulation in the assembly, part of the led assembly has now gone dark. Due to the shape of the light the water accumulates in the bottom corners of the light and just sits there until a bright sunny day comes along to evaporate the water. Which still leaves a large amount of condensation inside of the assembly. So it is just a matter of time before the whole assembly goes dark and quits working, that's the best case scenario. I have read on every mopar, Dodge, and Durango specific community forums and message boards that this is not a one off issue. It seems that 90% of Durango's with this light assembly have the same issue. With some cases reporting visible smoke coming from the assembly due to a catastrophic failure from extended water damage, complete light failure, and many other issues caused by shotty manufacturing. To have the assembly replaced is no cheap venture. The light assembly alone runs around $500 or more, depending on the condition, plus I'm figuring another $300 to $600 in labor cost on top of the part cost. None of this work is covered under any of mopar, Dodge, or Chrysler warranties. Even the bumper to bumper warranty I paid roughly $4,000 for. This situation has numerous saftey concerns from no visibility at night for the driver's behind to a serious fire hazard with electrical equipment constantly in water. I hope this issue is remedied before my vehical or anyone else's vehical has melting taillights or another vehical wedged in the rear from my rear lights burning out. Please research all the forums out there.

15 Brake Light problem of the 2015 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

The race track brake lighting on the back hatch has filled with water and failed safety inspection. There are no scrapes, scratches, or any indication that anything is damaged. There have been numerous complaints from other owners with similar lighting and the fix is over $1,000. I bought the car brand new and have contacted both the dealer and Dodge corporate who will not accept responsibility for an obvious defect/design flaw.

16 Brake Light problem of the 2015 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 02/08/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango. The contact stated the water leaked into the brake light on the liftgate. The failure caused the brake light to short out. The dealer (tate Chrysler Jeep Dodge frederick, 5629 buckeystown pike, frederick, MD 21704) stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. 17 Brake Light problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/11/2018

Bought the vehicle brand new has a little over 10,000 miles on it now, started noticing standing water in the racetrack (back gate) led lights took it to the dealership to find out why water was getting in they informed me the brake light had a crack which I thought was a seam (where the 2 parts met) it is a straight line down, vehicle has never been in a accident or damaged, so the brake light cracked in its own. After a little research I found out this is very common and don't understand how this can be safe since water is getting into something electrical and causing led brake lights to fail or burn out.

18 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

I reside in massachusetts, where winters can be long and harsh. Either raining or snowing. I purchased my 14 Durango with 29k in mileage back in June and around December I noticed there to be a puddle of water moving back and forth in my left side light that is attached to the tailgate (not the brake light). Maybe a few days later a few of the led lights burnt out and I now have no lights on the side. I have since tried contacting the dealer and the company that I have an extended warranty through and neither of them will fix nor replace the led strip of the racetrack light. The light itself costs aroun $1,000 and I shouldn't have to worry about something like this. I shouldn't have to keep my vehicle in doors while it rains or be concerned about the safety of my daughter if anything were to catch fire due to electric unit hitting water. I have since joined a Dodge Durango page on facebook bringing the matter up and a lot of people have experienced the same issue. This should be a recall and fixed immediately. If dozens upon dozens of people are experiencing this from2014-2016 Dodge Durango's I think something should be done about it. I bought a farely unused car in which I put $4,000 down and now 7 months later I have to pay $1,000 for an entire light strip that should never get water in it? it blows my mind that I have to worry about something like this. Please help us Durango owners.

19 Brake Light problem of the 2015 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

Exterior lighting - brake lights - rear rear center led light is filled with water. Light does not work. This is a common problem. Widespread issue. Replacing the light is not the permanent fix. The problem will reoccur even after the replacement over the time. This should be recalled.

21 Brake Light problem of the 2016 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

After purchase, immediately we started having problems with headlight not working, then a rear light and brake light not working. Took in for recall on another part and they discovered it was the electrical, while driving and sitting at lights. Lights on dash, radio, headlights, etc, not work properly or all sudden decide not to work at all. We've taken it back now 5 times. Mechanic says the whole wiring harness is bad and cannot be repaired, but continues to say they called Chrysler for parts to try to repair. While my 83 yrs old dad who bought the car, left sitting at the dealer for 4-5 hours every trip and no rental vehicle available from enterprise or hertz. After sitting there 5 hours today, we had to leave vehicle. This time, we are ready to call attorney for lemon law in missouri.

22 Brake Light problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/18/2015

My 2011 Dodge Durango crew says key no detected when I attempt to start the vehicle. I thought it was the battery in the key fob because the vehicle stated low key battery and took the fob to battery's plus. They tested the key fob and stated the battery was fine and didn't need to be replaced. Also the drivers side head and brake lights go out.

23 Brake Light problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/22/2015

This has happened twice, the first time was a month or so ago but it happened again last week and the wound was much worse. The exposed edge of the left and right rear brake light are extremely sharp and exposed anytime the rear hatch is open/up. I thought about making a video showing how it could peal and apple or watermelon skin. My right arm has a short 3/4" scrap (1st) and now an almost 3" long scrap that is taking its time to heal. If your skin touches those edges and has any amount of force it will scrape the skin. This happens during unloading if a package shifts while unloading.

24 Brake Light problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

In March of 2013 I bought a brand new Dodge Durango and I've had an ongoing problem since I bought it. When I'm driving in the evening the reflection of other headlights, brake lights, and streetlights cause a shadow so that I have double vision of those images through my windshield. After several trips to the dealership for test drives and inspections they finally replaced the windshield. The new windshield is just as bad, when I went back to the dealership again they said this is how all the Durango windshields look and they even took me for a test drive in a new 2014 Durango to show me that this was how they all look. I am very frustrated, this is not acceptable the visibility is horrible and I feel the windshield is hurting my eyes. If they cannot find a solution to this problem I would like to return the car.
