Water has leaked into the "race track lighting" on the lift gate. This is from normal, everyday driving use and care. The lift gate tail lights, as well as license plate lighting no longer function. This makes my vehicle dangerous, and illegal to drive at night. I have read on multiple Dodge Durango forums that this is a common problem, and one Dodge dealer I spoke to said they see this all the time. The part alone to fix the problem is quoted at $1000 before tax. To me, it is crazy that it costs this much simply to make my vehicle legal again, especially when it is a common issue according to my research. I feel that Dodge should issue a recall, as this is a common problem, it's a safety, and legal issue, and it is so expensive to fix. I bought a newer vehicle to not have problems, and it is hard to be able to afford such an expensive fix when all I am trying to do is make my vehicle legal to drive again. Dodge needs to do the right thing, and take care of this problem that has plagued many of its loyal customers.

Water is entering the rear race track tail light / brake light of 2019 Dodge Durango which is causing the led lights within to burn and/or short out. The light is not cracked and was never damaged to cause this issue. Dodge is advising this is not a recall issue and cost would be approximately $1200-$1500 to replace.

My center tail light known as the race track light had gotten moisture in it and some of the led lights went out. I was in the process of trying to find a solution as to why this happened as my vehicle is not even 4 years old yet. This issue started November of 2020. Well fast forward to 2-13-21 the whole center part has now completely went out and doesnt work at all. I have been doing alot of research and see there is alot of issues with people having the same problems and the manufacturer not doing anything about the issue to fix them. This is a huge saftey concern and would like some more feedback on what could be done to have it fixed as its not a cheap fix at all. Thank you in advance and hopefully we can get something going for this.

Durango lift gate racetrack taillight is out, entire tail light is blown and brake is not functioning on it nor license plate light.
The tail light track across the tailgate continues to take on water. I first had it replaced in April 2018 at which point I was told that it's about $1300 fix but was covered under my warranty. Fast forward and early 2020, replacement has same issue with condensation. It was replaced again and I was told if there were any issues that I would be paying out of pocket as I was past the original 2 year warranty replacement. It is now a year later and the 2nd replacement is having the same issue. This is three taillight fixtures having the same issue. Dodge needs to pay for this. Essentially I'd be paying $1300 every two years to replace at this point or have burnt out electric components because of the water. A $40k vehicle with 64,000 miles on it.

Having issues with water in race track taillight and now. The whole racetrack tail light is out.
The rear tail light bar filled with water and stopped working. This part was 1st replaced in December 2018, and now the 2nd one is no longer working. This is a safety hazard and a known issue for this vehicle. I have called the dealership and Chrysler and they are not willing to replace or fix this known defect.
Tail middle light get water inside when it rains. Now my light is completely out with water inside the light.
Water fills up in the liftgate section of the tail light on both the right and left side.
Water in rear center racetrack tail light.
The track lighting (tail light) on the hatch has water in it along with condensation. I only have 24k miles on my Durango.

I have a 2017 Dodge Durango rt. My tailgate lights have water in them and during my travels I am noticing my truck is not the only one. Trying to figure out a fix for this problem. Is it my responsibility Dodges?.
Water is getting in tail light (racetrack led lighting) and shorting out the led lamps. Happens when it rains or goes through a car wash.
The center part of the racetrack tail light leaks and the water can and will cause the light to fail. Chrysler knows of the issue and it is happening in large numbers on the 2014 to current Dodge Durango. The replacement of the part is over $1,000 us dollars and yet they will not recall the vehicles to make it right instead they use it as a money pit. The light can leak if the vehicle is stationary or moving in wet weather and simply washing the vehicle will cause water to stand in the housing. The lights have been known to go out completely going down the road along with the license plate lights causing a dangerous situation. Please help us hard working people out and make Chrysler accountable for this poorly sealed design because that much money isn't easy to come by these days.
Water enters the rear tail light track lighting system, causing shorts in the led lights. I have had it replaced 2 times now because of this defect. The new track light hasn't been installed for 1 year yet and water has gotten back into the tail lights cause shortages and outages. This is a hazard that needs to be addressed by Dodge.
The racetrack tail light is not airtight so water gets inside the lamp. This caused an electrical short on the led boards and smoke filled my car. I contacted Dodge and they said there was nothing they could do for me. My insurance accepted it as a claim and I had the lamp replaced. The old lamp was intermittently lit before going completely out.
I was pulled over at night by a police officer for not having any rear lights. The officer informed me that he is always pulling Dodge Durango's over because this is a common problem that the lights fill up with water and the electrical components corrode and no longer function. This is a 2018 that did not pass a PA safety inspection in 2020 without paying $1,888. 51 to replace the damaged parts. The gasket and sealant on this product breaks down in a short period of time allowing rain water to fill up inside the tail light racetrack assembly that is one part containing the license plate lights, backup camera and rear backup lights. I called fca customer care and they refused to provide any assistance and were well aware of the problem. This problem has been ongoing since the 2014 models and Dodge is not willing to elevate or solve the problem and the consumer is unknowingly driving without lights until being pulled over by the police or the vehicle does not pass a safety inspection. This isn't a $100 expense that is being ignored but a $1,900 expense. This vehicle could have only 1,000 miles or 500,000 miles but shouldn't be breaking down in less than 3 years. This is not neglect or wrongdoing on the part of the consumer and is clearly a quality control breakdown that is being ignored. How can we request the government to investigate and issue a safety recall on this defect to guarantee that the vendors and manufacturers of the defective product are the ones paying for the repairs and not the customers who are the victims during this pandemic when I am out of work and don't have $2,000 just sitting around and I'm struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table for my family?.
1. My fuel tank will not fill up all the way and will stop at each fill up. I have to manually keep trying to pump the fuel. Almost always I can never fill fully up. This is a known issue and needs to be resolved. 2. I also have an issue with my racetrack tail light with condensation and water getting inside. I have a faulty light as I have had my dealer check for cracks or openings. 3. Auto start on/off jerky and sometimes does not start on time and will jolt forward when trying to accerate at stop light.
My 2017 Dodge Durango had water intrusion in the lift-gate tail light. I had one replaced under warranty after I noticed that the lights had failed and could see the water pooling in the light. The replace tail light also has water pooling in the bottom part of the light. The dealer won't replace this one for free because the warranty had expired.
Rear tail light (racetrack light) portion burned out. It was improperly sealed and allowed water runoff to collect inside bottom part. This causes the racetrack light to burnout. This is a hazard that if not fixed and tail lights go out while driving, could cause an accident and seriously injure people.
The race track tail light has water in it and condensation. The led lights short it out while driving and almost caused and accident. Got stop by the cops because in his words my lights keep flickering is a quality check defect. Theres a whole community going trough this problem we need a solution. This happens if the truck is stop or moving gets water inside the race track tailed lights. We getting a hurricane here in texas so much water my house might not flood but my lights will.
Water entered tailgate light housing and pooled up over time. This caused some of the lights to go out. The Durango has less than 35,000 miles and due to it coming from canada there is no factory coverage. Seems after little research it is a very common problem and very costly to owners. To the tune of $1200 and up for dealership replacement and labor.
Water is pooling in racetrack tail light when it rains.
Tail light collects water while in motion on any road or stationary. Lights short out which can be hazardous when driving in the rain or at night.
Rear taillight collects water in the housing when it rains, snow or wash. Due to this defect know my rear tail light is burned out. This occurs when I'm stationary or moving. I read a lot of forums and it seems like a common problem with Dodge.
Tail light cracked allowing water in lights causing lights to go out. Noticed this about 1. 5 years ago. No other damage, looks like it was cut with a laser. Car was stationary.
Rear tailgate led light and plate lights shorted out and are non functional due to water leaking into light assembly from bad sealing process.
Rear tail light (racetrack light) was improperly sealed and allows water runoff to collect inside bottom part of racetrack lighting. This causes the racetrack light to burnout and eventually stop working entirely. This is a hazard that if not fixed and tail lights go out while driving, could cause an accident and seriously injure people. This is the most common and worst issue with newer Durango's and because of poor design unknown to purchaser, should not come out of pocket. Most dealerships are charging anywheres from $1000-$1300 to fix. A google search will show this issue with nearly every Durango with racetrack lighting and should be fixed before it causes accidents if it hasn't already. Please help us!.
Purchased vehicle used in 2018, with less than 30k miles on it. It currently has around 48k miles on it, and the racetrack led tail light bar has water in it, causing part of the bar to go out. There are a ton of people with this same issue - fca needs to address it and not expect their customers to shell out around $1200 to fix their faulty design.
The rear tail light located on the tail gate of the Durango collects a large amount of water during any rain. This happens if the vehicle is stationary and/or in motion. Bolts in the tailgate have to be removed to drain the water. If the water stays it will short out the lights and they will no longer illuminate.
Water leaks into the tail light housing causing it to pool up in the bottom and kill the leds. Really bad in the snow. You can see where the led's have started to die in the attached picture, the bottom most led's on the tailgate.
The tail light that runs all the way across on the back leaks. I've already this replaced once when it was still under warranty because bugs got in there. Now this keeps moisture, I constantly have to find ways to drain this or it would make the lights go out. I feel like this is unacceptable, because it seems to be happening on every vehicle that has these lights. I bought this vehicle brand new, I didn't expect after only a year of having I would come across this problem. This should be a recall!.
Water pooling inside the led tail light housing. Light has already been replaced under warranty once and now the replacement light has the same issue. Internet show this is a wide spread issue with 2014+ Durangos but no recall or action from Dodge.
Water has collected in rear tailgate lights which has caused lights to malfunction including license plate lights.
