2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/13/2017

Driver and passenger stopped at rest area on interstate I-75. When returning to vehicle, driver and passenger connected seatbelts. Driver checked surroundings for clearance before putting Durango in reverse, with foot on brake to slowly exit parking space. While in reverse turn, vehicle suddenly accelerated at a very high speed. A chevy cruze parked behind was stuck(rear trunk area). Driver, realizing vehicle was not stopping looked into rear view mirror to search for open, safe area. Driver aimed for empty space between cruze and a chevy equinox. Durango hopped curb, bouncing down on front end of equinox, damaging and tearing off front bumper. At some point driver put both feet firmly on brake pedal. Vehicle continued onto grass, digging into grassy area, finally stopping before colliding into trees which were behind. In addition to damage to two other vehicles, the Durango sustained rear end damage. . Left rear tire was on the ground sideways with tire detached from rim. Still not sure if Durango finally responded to brakes or if tire snapping off suspension is what finally stopped vehicle. This all occurred within seconds. State police were summoned, report taken. Durango removed from scene via flat bed tow truck. Damage estimates and police report are pending at this time.

12 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2007 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/29/2009

Had owned our 2007 Dodge Durango for over 2 months, and had been driving it with no problems on snow, slush, etc. On Dec 29th, 2009, I slowly pulled into my in-laws' driveway and was just about to come to a complete stop, when the car surged forward. I took my foot off the brake and hit brakes again, though it did slide into my father-in-law's car before I could stop. Considering the slush, I thought perhaps I was confused in the commotion and maybe it was just a skid. However, the exact same thing happened the next day, at an intersection I was approaching at less than 5 mph. Right at the moment the car "should" have stopped, it suddenly accelerated, and I had to again take my foot off the brake and then quickly press on it hard so that I would stop. Thankfully the car approaching from the left had not yet reached the intersection yet. My sister-in-law also felt the surge and asked me what it was. I told her that it was what had happened the day before, but I didn't understand what was happening. That was over 2 months ago and it hasn't happened since, and from what I understand, taking it into the dealer probably won't do any good because it is not a consistently occurring problem and they likely won't be able to tell me what happened. However, I am still concerned about it, especially considering the recent brake failures/sudden acceleration incidences I am hearing about. . . I had never heard of it happening to anyone else before.
