Failure Date: 01/02/2020

5th time event has occurred. After extended driving when pulling into a parking spot the vehicle will commence to accelerate. Only by aggressively applying the brake to prevent the vehicle from plowing ahead can I place the transmission into park and turn off the vehicle. Chrysler previously acknowledged cruise control problems. I think the problem still exists. This is a dangerous vehicle. Previous file number #10916715.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/26/2018

While driving on the interstate ,with the cruise control engaged, traffic was slowing down due to road repair, I applied my brakes lightly to disengage the cruise control, but the vehicle remained in a forward thrust. I was fast approaching a vehicle ahead of me, and before I realised I wasnt going to stop with further application of my breaks, I hit the vehicle in front of me resulting in a near fatal colision. I was saved by my seat belt and the air bags. I can only estimate my speed at the time of collision to be between 40 or 50 mph, as my cruise control was set at 62 mph.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/09/2018

The check engine bulb is functional (lights up initially when turning on the vehicle), but does not illuminate when there is an engine code reported. I've encountered 2 different problems where the check engine light didn't illuminate. The electronic throttle control was malfunctioning, and the car occasionally went into limp mode, usually on highways while driving straight, sometimes at high speeds, risking a rear end collision. Fortunately the throttle control light illuminated, but there was no check engine light. The cruise control is malfunctioning, disengaging at random times at high speeds on a highway, again risking a rear end collision. No indicator lights illuminate, and there is no check engine light. An engine code read reports error p0572, which indicates a problem with the cruise control, but there is still no check engine light illuminated.

7 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/25/2017

While driving my 2017 Dodge Durango citadel (6980 miles) home from work, I had the adaptive cruise control set. I was in a steady line of traffic and cars lined up behind me. The truck started to steadily decrease in speed, there were no objects in the path of the vehicle and the car in front was at least 6 car lengths ahead. When I tried to accelerate the vehicle nothing happened when I tried to accelerate, I then attempted to brake, my brakes were not active as well. I placed my hazard lights on and attempted to turn the steering wheel slightly to move my vehicle from the road. However, at this time my steering had tightened and I could not move my vehicle. I ended up coasting to the right side of the road until my vehicle came to a stop. Nothing was working on my truck. I could not open my door or let my windows down. It was like I was trapped inside. Finally, I was able to get my windows down after 3 or more minutes. When the towing service picked my vehicle up, the back windows would not roll up and my lift gate opened by itself. We got the lift gate back down manually. However, the vehicle would not start. If you placed your foot on the brake, pushed the start button it just made a clicking noise. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and will be looked at tomorrow, 9/26/17. This could have been a horrible, fatal accident. Some type of investigation needs to take place into this matter. My son and I travel many miles a week and this would have definitely been fatal if we were on the interstate on an inside lane.

9 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

I purchased my 2011 Dodge duango citadel in August 2015. On several occasions, both weeks and months apart, my hazard lights will randomly cut off and on just long enough for you to think you're crazy and second guess if you saw them. I eventually had to take my car to the Dodge dealership because the car was not turning over at the start and became inoperable. Once at the dealership, the manager determined that although my car reported to have already had the tipm replaced, it was actually not. The original tipm was still in the car, meaning that the carfax reporting that the tipm recall had been executed was false. After my tipm was replaced, my car operated fine until one day whilei was driving with my 2 year old in the car. I was coming up on a stop sign, and when I went to make a right hand turn my car stalled. All of the lights were on and the radio still functioned, but I lost complete power steering and my hazard lights would not work when I tried to cut them on to alert other drivers. I was able to put my car in park and restart it successfully. I took around 3 weeks before I was able to make an appt. For my car to be looked at. During this time my hazard lights sporadically came on from time to time, lasting no longer than a couple of seconds. Might I mention that when the car stalled my fcw off light and the adaptive cruise control symbol came on. After a thorough review at the Dodge dealership, I was informed that that there was no problem detected. I was told that all the connections were checked and that no trouble codes were coming up when running diagnostics. I left the dealersihp hoping my problem had been a fluke. Boy was I wrong! since then, my hazard lights have still been spiratically going off and has stalled again, this time while I was making a left hand turn onto my road with my 5 year old in the car. This is ridiculous!.

10 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that after the vehicle was picked up from the dealer after a routine maintenance the cruise control switch failed. The contact stated the cruise control speed was set but would not maintain the set speed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, however the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or find a fault code. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. Ah.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/05/2015

The adaptive cruise control (acc) applies the brakes and brings the vehicle to a stop when following another vehicle in traffic. If the vehicle ahead does not move forward within two seconds (unlikely in heavy traffic) the acc displays a message in the dash warning the driver to press the brake and then suddenly shuts off the acc and releases the brake causing the car to being to creep forward. My car came close to rolling into the car in front because the first time I used the acc I did not expect this behavior. The acc is promoted as having a stop and go feature. I expected the acc to wait until the car I was behind to resume speed and then resume speed for my car accordingly. (this is the way I was used to this feature working in my mercedes s550). There is a sophisticated center dash computer system showing climate, radio, nav, etc. I was exploring this system and not watching the driver information display in the dash and as such, missed the very brief message warning me to apply the brake. Besides the fact that in essence this car does not really employ a stop and go feature for all practical purposes and lulls a new driver into a false sense of security, the current implementation makes no sense from a safety standpoint. The driver should not have to do anything for the car to resume following the car in front. A less desirable, but better implementation would be to require some driver input to the car to resume travel - but this certainly would not qualify as a stop and go acc.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/29/2015

While entering another highway from a ramp in cruise control, I attempted to accelerate. The gas pedal went to the floor by itself and the car accelerated at a drastic, unwanted rate. I could not turn the cruise control off using the off button and I slammed on the brakes and held them down and steered off to the side of the road with the engine revving at full speed. I let up on the brakes to see if it would stop, but the car accelerated again and I had to apply the brakes at full force and brought the car to a shuddering stop while holding the brakes down. While the engine was still revving at top speed, I put the car into neutral and only then would the cruise control button shut off. I was able to drive 800 miles with no further incidence by not using the cruise control and I will be taking it to a dealer in my area.

13 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

Driving with cruise control set at 35 mph, cruise holds normal on flat or uphill driving, however when going down hill the engine idles down to an idle and the transmission shifts into overdrive. When this happen the torque converter in the transmission disengages causing the vehicle to "free wheel coast" down hill. On a hill with a grade of 3 to 4 percent the vehicle reached a speed of 55+ mph in less than 1/4 mile. I was told by the dealer that this is normal for this vehicle. The only way to control the speed on a down hill situation when the speed is set is to apply the brakes and disengage the cruise. This process however does nor reengage the torque converter in the transmission. For that to happen I have to press on the accelerator pedal. Sometimes when that happens there are great variances in the stability of the vehicle as the transmission grabs.

Right turning signal turns on by itself and is hard to turn off, could cause an accident by having a car pulling out in front of us believing we are turning. Cruise control does not maintain speed.

15 Cruise Control problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 08/31/2014

The contact owns a 2013 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle slowed down intermittently to 25 mph without warning. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

16 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/23/2014

The issue began as I took my truck in for a recall on the brake system. I informed that I was having issues with the cruise control system not functioning. Since then the cruise control issue had a diagnostic that darcars is informing there is not issue but no replacement or suggestions have been presented. I began having problems with the push start around 8/1. When trying to start the truck it will not turn over and eventually will stall out completely. So I attempted to remote start which worked for a couple of days. Soon it began to cause the same problem. Since then I have been starting the car with the key. Until 9/22, on that morning my son stated he heard a hissing sound from the rear driver tire. I also heard this sound at approximately 2:15 pm. Which prompted me to call darcars service center because a vanity light recall was just mailed to us. So I tried to schedule an appointment. Before I left work at 5:30 I attempted to unlock the door and could not without the key being inserted to the door. The car would not crank. I started realizing I was having the same nightmare as others tipm. The car is now being worked on but they are calling the issue everything but what it is so that I purchase a full pump relay, throttle box, and battery. Costing me 1400 plus 140 for another diagnostic please attach to p54 recall multiple stalls and non functioning vehicle.

17 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

While traveling on I-75, had the vehicle on adaptive cruise control, the vehicle slammed the brakes and then accelerated back up to 75mph. No vehicles in front, not debris, no reason why it did it. Vehicle has had constant issues with the forward collision system alerting to brake when nothing is in front, turning itself off and on by itself, and the console giving the message that the back sensors are blocked when no debris is present or even when driving. Multiple other "computer" issues that they can't figure out, from lights turning on/off, to the wipers not activating when they need to and the opposite. Dvd player acting funny. It has been endless.

18 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

Vehicle would hesitate to start, after several tries it would start. On 11/11/13 when the cruise control was set it accelerated by itself. I was trying to start it on 11/12/13 and 11/13/13, when it finally started it accelerated to 4 1/2 rpm, so drove it to the dealership and I was told it was the tipm, which isnt available, but there are parts to correct the problem. One part would be available in 4 business days and the wiring part won't be available until 12/24/2013 estimated. This id such an inconvenience!.

19 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/05/2013

Bought vehicle about 1 month ago and my horn and cruise control were working at time of purchase. Took car home and went out the next day and found out that horn didn't work after almost getting into and accident, so now I no longer have a horn or cruise control on my car.

20 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/26/2011

I was driving to work going approximately 65 mph when I put on the break as traffic had gotten a little thick. As I released my foot off of the break the car kind of jumped (similar to when its in cruise control) and I noticed that it was picking up speed by itself. I immediately thought that somehow it had gone into cruise contro on its own but when I again tried to put the break on I noticed that the break pedal was a bit resisitant and when I removed my foot it again began to accelerate on its own. Still thinking this was a cruise control issue I hit the off button but this did not help. Not knowing what to do and realizing that getting the car to slow down was very difficult I didnt want to exit the expressway and not be able to stop or prevent an accident so I continued my drive to work with my foot on the brake knowing that in the worse case scenario there was a field I could crash into (at my work exit) if I could not get the car to stop. At one point I took my foot off of the break to see if the speed would continue to rise or if it would stop at any point, but after it began to approach 100mph (it was clear that it was going to continue rising)and scaring me even further I put my foot back on the break. Upon exiting the expressway I put both feet on the break and pressed down as hard as I could, only managing to get the speed to about 30 mph before I put it into neutral and shut it off. I was later told by the mechanic that my throttle was stuck. Needless to say it was one of the scariest experiences in my life!.

21 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 12/28/2007

I was on the interstate and I had the cruise control on. I hit the brakes to slow down and cruise control deactivated. I stopped at the stop sign. I proceeded through the stop sign and was making a left hand turn on to the overpass over the interstate. I was doing about 25 mph when I felt the throttle come out from under my foot. I hit the button on the steering wheel but it keep accelerating. I hit it multiple times and it finely went off after a few times. The vehicle had accelerated to almost 35 mph. When it went off the motor started making this horrible noise. It sounds like a broken connecting rod or it dropped a valve. The vehicle is out of warranty and it happened on the Friday Dec. 28th. This is Sunday the 30th. Havent had a chance to let anyone look at it. I will probably have to do the work myself.

22 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

The cruise control in my 2001 Dodge Durango accelerates and brakes constantly. Since it is out of warranty, I will have to pay for repairs since there was not a recall that I am aware of.

23 Cruise Control problem of the 2001 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/09/2007

Very frustrating intermittent problem with rpm fluctuating up and down when I have not, and I repeat not, moved my foot down onto the accelerator. Happens more often when cruise control is in use. Service engine light comes on then disappears. Very scary, have almost crashed a few times when vehicle accelerates rapidly. Worst thing is the problem can't always be reproduced for anyone to believe me!!!!!.

Dt: 2005 Dodge Durango. The dealership case number 4607005. When the consumer set the cruise control and was going down a hill, the vehicle will gain about 15 mph and the consumer would have to step on the brake to slow the vehicle down. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and they sent the information to the manufacturer, the dealer took the vehicle for a test drive and the manufacturer said that it was designed that way. So they said apply the brakes when necessary. The local dealer/chief mechanic said that this should not be like this.

31 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/10/2003

The cruise control was set at 65 mph, however the vehicle hit a bump and accelerated to 80 mph. The vehicle would also accelerate on its own when going over highway seams and bridges. The vehicle doesn't maintain a constant (set) speed and will vary from 5 mph and swap to regain set speed when going up long grade when engaged. Scc.

32 Cruise Control problem of the 2000 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/17/2001

I was driving my 2000 Dodge Durango on the freeway at approx. 70mph. Suddenly, the vehicle accelerated to full throttle on its own. The cruise control was not engaged. My foot was off the gas pedal and the car kept accelerating. I tapped the gas pedal with my foot to attempt to raise it with no effect. I down shifted to second gear with no effect. I engaged and disengaged the cruise control with no effect. The only way I could prevent the car from continuing to accelerate was to brake and release while I crossed three lanes of traffic. At no time did I have my foot on the gas pedal. As I exited the freeway it became increasingly difficult to control the car while fighting the engine power with the brake pressure. I shut the engine off and coasted to the side of the road. We could have easily had a collision and we are fortunate no one was hurt as a result of this very serious safety defect.

33 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/27/2001

1999 Dodge Durango 5. 2. Engine accelerated with throttle stuck full open I was unable to brake. I was traveling around a bend around 45mph downhill as I got to the turn in the bend my car accelerated tremendously I applied the brakes to slow down and was unable too. I checked the mat, it felt like the gas pedal was stuck to the floor the way the car sounded. I checked to see if anything else was in the way shoes, carpet. Nothing! they were no check engine light on nor the cruise control on. The car started to really race. I had a cliff on one side of me and an embankment on the other. I was catching up with the cars in front of me so I needed to stop immediately. I placed two feet forcebly on the brakes and didn't notice any slowing down at all and I was nearing the embankment. I steered out of traffic only to notice my car going faster as we are now coming to a level highway. I steered off to the side and put the gear in neutral and applied the brakes no luck! I stepped on the parking brake, placed the car in park and turned off the engine. This finally stopped the car. Towed the car to my mechanic couldn't find out anything because they could not duplicate the problem. 2 weeks ago this happened again, it went straight to the dealers and they can't find anything. They installed a CO-pilot to pick up the error codes the next time this happens. Basically a black box. I am afraid to drive it. I was lucky I didn't get into 2 accidents, though I came really close. My car is still at the dealership. I want them to really diagnose every part of this car. They still cannot find anything wrong they wanted me to pick it up, knowing what had happened. This is not driver error. I regularly maintain my car. This is a defect, and places everyone in harms way. Car racing uncontrollably and unable to stop the acceleration with the brakes this is a real problem.

34 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 11/02/2000

After repair of cruise control brake switch the cruise control began to accelerate very quickly and would not disengage after hitting the brake pedal. Nlm.

35 Cruise Control problem of the 1999 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/03/2000

While I was driving down interstate 20 my Durango began to accelerate on its own, and I could not get it to stop. Cruise controlwas not on. I had to ride brake hard to get off interstate, and I had to put on emergency brake to come to stop,. My rear wheels continued to spin, and only way I was able to stop vehicle was to shut engine off with keys. I had both my children (ages 2 and 4)with me at the time and we were lucky not to be injured or killed. We took Durango in to dealership listed in this report, and they were not able to find anything wrong. I was told it was a fluke and t hat manufacturer had never heard of this problem with any other Durango. Since then I have heard of this happening numerous times to other drivers. One instance made the news as the police thought the driver of rthe Durango was trying to out run them. Please notify me if you have heard of this happening to anyone else and advise me of what my next step is.
