3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/28/2025

I was driving home and felt steering wheel shake while on curved road, brakes felt like they wanted to lock up, then everything on dash lighted up looked like a shortage. My foot was still on the gas pedal then car just slowed down by itself. I had to steer vehicle to side of road. I did not panic, I was fearful something could’ve happened if I would’ve had other vehicles behind or even oncoming traffic. My vehicle is available for inspections upon request. Took my vehicle to a Dodge dealership for inspection and I was advised of a recall on my vehicle. Unfortunately, I was advised by the Dodge dealership that no remedy was yet available for my vehicle. I also contacted the manufacturer and they advised me the same as dealership, maybe during the first quarter of 2025 there could be a remedy. The manufacturer stated they would prioritize my case but no specific date could be given. I was given an option for a rental and due to my circumstances I would not be able to afford a rental. (I have to continue payments on my loan & vehicle insurance. ) I purchased the vehicle from dyer Chevrolet vero beach, I did reach out (on 3/31/2025) and asked them why was vehicle sold if there was a stop sale. Salesperson “ cameron andrews” stated “stop sale was not in effect at time of purchase [xxx] and it came out after the fact”. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/04/2024

I was coming home. As I pulled in my garage, hit the brake to stop and put in park. The vehicle started winding up to a point where my foot on the brake didn't matter. It accelerated forward, going through the wall of my garage, through my backyard, thru a chain guard, and into the corner of the museum wall next door. I was finally able to stop it completely by shutting the vehicle off. Despite the speed and impact to the front of my vehicle, the airbags never deployed.

Due to being in traffic I attempted to the vehicle in park and it did not allow, I waited approximately 5 min, at that point it allowed me to put the vehicle in park, I attempted to restart and it would not allow me. I had a water pump go out and my battery died while fixing it but when I gave it a jump and started it my abs and stability lights were on and haven’t turned off. It’s been over a year since they turned on. There is a recall for this on 2022 models why does it not apply to my vehicle?.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/21/2023

I just bought a 2020 Dodge Durango gt plus awd on Thursday 10/19/2023. On Saturday 10/21/2023 while driving this vehicle on the highway, it started accelerating on its own. I had not used the cruise control and was not attempting to use it. It accelerated from 42 mph to 65 mph with no assistance from me. I used the brake and it did slow down. However, every time that I removed my foot from the brake it would continue to speed up again. I drove approximately 10-15 miles to the dealership right then and the entire time I did not touch the accelerator. While exiting the off ramp, the car continued to attempt to accelerate so I had to continuously hold the brake pedal. As I merged onto the road off the highway, it stopped accelerating so I pressed the gas and it started to sputter and not accelerate. I put my hazzard lights on and as I'm attempting to coast to the side of the road, the car began accelerating on its own again. Luckily, I was almost at the Dodge Jeep dealer. I made it to the dealership and a manager drove the vehicle in the parking lot and it continued to speed through the parking lot on its own. The vehicle was left with the service department. I bought this vehicle as a safer and more comfortable vehicle for my 78 year old mom to drive and ride. Now I'm scared for her to drive it or ride in it. If she was the driver and this occurred, I wonder what the outcome might have been. It's still in service so I have no idea what the problem it. The message board did show 2 messages as this was occurring. Service throttle control and push start has been disabled.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 10/04/2023

While driving without notice transmission light flashes and the 2011 Dodge Durango will not shift out of gear. I have had this problem in the past and told dealer but they always say they have no codes and on test drive cant confirm the issue. The first time it happened was around the 50 000 mile mark I thought nothing of it back then as I restarted the car it went away. Over the years it go worst to the point that it would happen at least once or multiple times during my daily commute it I told the dealership about it but no codes and they said on a test run no problems. I stopped driving the car in 2019 because it was too dangerous to drive daily especially in traffic due to the car unable to shift gears left me stranded in the middle of the freeway many times waiting to restart car and car would behave normal until the transmission light comes on where I have to power off Durango and restart where ever it happens freeway stop signs lights or where ever it decides to happen. I want to get this car running again but dont have the money to fix an issue that I had when it was still covered by the extended warranty and now I have to pay out of pocket because im over the milage so this car has been sitting and I feel as I been ripped off because of al the issues. Im end up dying in this thing if I take it out. Ive donr the recalls and now I see another recall for the same issue that they said they fixed is been reissued im certain all of the issues is tied to the computer unit it I already had one replaced in this car because when I took it for the alternator issue when the car just died with no warning they told me it was fried. All the recall issues that have been mandated are all the issues I had car stalling not starting battery dead and drained fuel relay power module no power how is this not a lemon. This car is a saftey issue on so many levels. Im now trying to get this car running and im still having the same issues I have 129000 miles on it now.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 04/21/2023

While driving down the road, my vehicle will completely shut off and shut down. Sometimes, emphasis on the sometimes, I can push my key into the ignition a bit more and it will start back up. I lose all function and control of my vehicle. My dash lights and exterior lights completely shut off. I can't steer my car and it comes to a complete stop within seconds because everything locks up. I have had this happen more times than I can even count. It has happened in the middle of me turning at an intersection and has almost caused a collision. I took it in for a diagnosis and was told that there was nothing wrong with my vehicle and they didn't know why it was doing that. There is absolutely no warning for when this will happen. The speed that it happens at varies as there is no rhyme or reason. It happened when my care had 95,000 miles and still to this day. It happens at least 4 times a week. I have read forums where other people with the same vehicle have had this happen to also.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 09/23/2022

The engine valve stem failed prematurely due to poor quality manufacturing. Due to this low quality product it has created low compression in the engine. This has triggered multiple codes such as misfire, etc, and has affected the acceleration of the vehicle as well as performance and at times from even starting. My family's safety has been put at risk due to stalling of the vehicle in traffic. This was inspected by a proper mechanic who looked into my engine with a camera and used diagnostic tools. There was no lights active during fault. .

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 05/13/2022

On may13th I was slowly pulling into my garage : as I was slowly easing my foot off the brake (but still in contact with the brake pedal), the car suddenly accelerated. I pressed my foot hard on the brake but was unable to stop the car. It was traveling very slowly with only about 5 feet to go when it suddenly accelerated. It struck the water heater which is situated against the rear wall of the garage with enough force to make my neck and shoulders hurt. There was a rubber trash can in front of the heater that may have absorbed some impact. There was a dent in the bumper. Inside the house, on the other side of the wall, the paint and plaster were cracked and somewhat displaced and a bureau pushed away from the wall. This acceleration happened without any warning. This also happened to my 2015 Dodge Durango in Feb 2019. The situation was almost identical; I was almost done pulling into the garage with my foot lightly on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated and struck the water heater, denting it and causing mor extensive damage to 2 walls inside the house. I had my own mechanic and the dealer evaluate that car and they couldn't find anything wrong. I did see reports of this happening to other 2015 Durangos at low speed. We traded in the 2015 Durango to the dealer because of the accident and their assurance that they'd never seen this happen (at the time it wasn't reported in any 2018 Durangos) and we bought the 2018 Durango that was involved in the may 13 acceleration. I plan to call the dealer but am not sure how to remedy the problem.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2002 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 03/14/2021

While pulling a travel trailer I got onto the freeway. As I have been pulling the trailer for a while now with this vehicle my comfort speed is around 45mph but will push up to 50mph maybe 55mph at the most. Anyways while entering the freeway I accelerated and as I got ready to merge I let my foot off the gas but the peddle stayed down and the vehicle continued to accelerate until around 80mph to 85mph when I finally got the peddle to release and stop acceleration. I quickly got off the freeway to calm myself as I was terrified I was going to crash. During this incident the first thing I did was tap the brakes lightly which did absolutely nothing and the car kept accelerating next I grabbed the floor mat thinking that maybe it was obstructing the peddle, it was not. Then I quickly used my foot to wiggle under the peddle and pull up multiple times until it finally released and came up stopping acceleration and luckily to my relief I did not crash although I had come very close had there been any more traffic or if I had got going g any faster I may not have been so lucky. This only happened the one time where I got to dangerous speeds but since then the peddle has started to stick two other times but this times it was much easier to get the peddle to release and I wasn't towing a trailer. I read that this happened in another model in freezing temperatures fro. The same manufacturer but couldn't find anything to it without freezing temperatures. I think it is a manufacturer defect that maybe affects other 2002 Dodge Durango I dony know if pulling the trailer triggered this or not as I said it has happened twice since and that was without a trailer attached. Definitely scary and should be looked at. . I don't have the funds to take it to a shop so I haven't had it professionally looked at yet.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 1998 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/12/2021

Due to to uneven driveway the vehicle stalled, or transmission began to spin and not move, at which the vehicle ignition was shut-off. It was attempted to push the vehicle about 50 feet to a parking place. Another person offers to help, then pushes vehicle 25/50 feet. . . Advises to turn the wheel. The wheel does not want to turn. The vehicle has used a lot of power steering fluid almost daily(has a history of squealing and hard turning at start unless lubricated). So advice to place vehicle in reverse caused the steering wheel to be even harder to turn, if at all. I requested help from the bystander, who at which point comes to the driver side where I was standing outside of the vehicle also. It's unknown if the bystander help turned the ignition on, or if the ignition somehow turned on by itself. The vehicle was occupied by one addition passenger at the time of the crash. The vehicle traveled in reverse gear, without anyone pushing on the accelerator. There were minor to severe injuries, and damage to 2 vehicles and one structure.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/07/2021

Driving car on freeway when the computer locked up system of awd and sensors. The back tires would not turn and car started to jerk and slowed down. The dash board lighted up and all sensors said off off off . The mileage speedometer changed to kilometers and the mapping screen had the car going in a circle. The steering wheel was stiff and cars where passing me by. The car made a clunking sound when it first happened. I got scared trying to figure out what to do. I slowly got out of traffic and off the freeway to park the car. Had the tow person come and we hard time getting it to stay in neutral. I had to stay in the car so it would not shut off. When got it to dealers for repair the repair place said the computer must have reset itself and they could not find anything wrong?? I feel this is a big problem? this should be looked into as it could be life threating when driving along and the computer takes over like that and you have no control of the wheels. My tow person saw what it was doing also not just me. So I know it was happening. Something is wrong with that computer system where it just shuts down like that. It has done it before on a smaller area of just the high beam controls but this time it was the whole driving mechanizm. Please look into this problem. I would like to see a new computer or something done with my car so it is safer and more reliable. Sincerely, Jan milos.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

After my vehicle stalled while driving as stated by the prior recall, I have had the same problem as though my car will just stop running at any time. It is quite scary to think that I am driving a 'fixed' car and am experiencing the same problems as before. My car now unlocks and locks as well, which is a huge safety concern because I cannot keep safely any personal information in my vehicle or prevent it from being broken into. The intial recall repair did not fix the underlying problem. I am waiting for it to stall out.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 07/12/2020

While driving on the highway, the computer system shut down and all screens went black. The car still drove but none of the controls worked anymore. We could not roll the windows down or turn the fans or a/c on and it was summer so the interior of the car immediately became unbearably hot. We pulled over as soon as it was safe to do so and turned the car off and back on. The system came on partially and we were only able to open the sunroof and roll the rear windows down half way before it stopped working again. We tried cycling the car on and off several more times but the computer system and all controls remained unresponsive and the screens black. The door locks did not work either so we couldn’t secure the vehicle. It was Sunday so no Dodge dealerships were open. We were on a family vacation and half way to our destination so we drove an additional 3-4 hours to reach our destination. I took the Durango to the dealership the following day and they kept it for a week. They disconnected and reconnected the battery cable and the system worked again and they could not replicate the problem. We drove home after that without issue. Two weeks later, the same thing happened. This time, I pulled over and disconnected and reconnected the battery cables and that seemed to solve the issue again. We took it back to our local dealership and they could not replicate the issue.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Dodge Durango

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

I had a fuel pump relay replaced in 2015, and have had a lot of small problems with the electrical system over the years. Once the vehicle passed 80,000 miles this year all kinds of things started happening. The cooling system went haywire and my auto repair shop had to replace the radiator. I've been experiencing problems with my vehicle hesitating to start like it is not getting fuel, and have trouble accelerating so I cannot pull out in heavy traffic unless there is a good break which is absolutely ridiculous having a hemi v8 engine! I've been towed twice this year when the vehicle would not start at all but then it ended up starting when it got to my auto repair shop or the dealer. I was not only embarrassed but wasted time and money. My mechanic did a lot of diagnostics and ruled out everything except the fuel pump relay. I did some research and learned about the recall so I went to the dealer and asked them to apply the fix. They hassled me and said they 'can not trust your mechanics' and made me pay for diagnostics and said there was no fix for the recall. They ended up finding another problem basically telling me my mechanics were wrong and charged me over $800 for a new pcm. They did install a new fuel pump relay at my insistence even though it was the original part and not a fixed part. It resolved the starting issue and I stopped getting any warning lights. The vehicle still didn't accelerate or handle properly and not even four months later and the same problem is happening again! the fuel pump relay is obviously failing again and I am not confident the pcm had a problem if I'm still getting the same issues. Could it be the tipm I keep reading about? the dealer didn't mention that. I'm afraid I am going to be stranded with children or worse that the vehicle is going to cut out while moving in traffic!! this is an extremely unreasonable safety risk!.
