Beginning in Dec 2017, we've had sporadic issues while driving on highways and local roads with some portion of the electrical system. When this happens, the center lcd dash screen powers off, and we lose power steering and brakes. Dash lights, exterior lights, radio, a/c all stay on. Typically we have to pull over and turn the car off & back on for it to return. From Dec-oct, its happened approx 5-6 times. The dealer wasn't able to replicate the issue for the days they had it, and no error codes were written. A friend also with a Durango described to me similar issues with his, and said his tipm was faulty. We have lifetime warranty, and the tipm is covered, but they refuse to replace it until the dealer can replicate the issue and get an error code pointing to the tipm. I believe because we lose power steering, that this is a serious safety hazard and should be replaced regardless.

I was driving in the city on a very busy street when the car made a weird siren noise; then my seatbelt lights went off, my park assist started flashing, my traction control other lights were flashing, the radio flashed off and on, then went out. Then my wipers went on, and then I lost power steering, brakes were not working, and the car slowly died. My hazards didn't even work, so I almost caused an accident. My car died in the middle of a very busy street and I had no hazards to warn anyone! a very scary situation to have especially with your 12-year-old daughter in the car.
Vehicle is a new company vehicle and had approximately 507 miles on it when the incident occurred. I was driving and vehicle lost power steering and started to smoke from under the hood. Pulled into next safe parking lot and opened hood. Couldn't see any flames and after about 5 - 10 minutes smoke stopped. Tried driving vehicle and it seemed ok except for no power steering. Drove vehicle home and called the 800 number for customer service for Chrysler, Dodge and they told me to call a local Chrysler, Dodge dealer for a service appointment. Called local dealer and they told me to bring vehicle in two days later for service.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Durango. The contact received a notice for NHTSA campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failures listed in NHTSA campaign number: 14v104000 (service brakes, hydraulic). While driving approximately 25 mph in inclement weather, the contact went to depress brake pedal and the vehicle would not stop. As a result, the vehicle lost power steering. The engine seized repeatedly throughout the day. The contact also stated that a foul odor was coming from the heat/air vents. The vehicle was driven to the dealer. The manufacturer was aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,000.

2012 Dodge Durango crew with a v6. Engine died while driving down the highway. I lost power steering and power brakes, but managed to get out of traffic and let it coast to the shoulder. The engine would crank, but immediately die. After a few attempts, the engine began running smoothly. Since then, it will occasionally not start (the starter turns over, but the engine will not run). No codes are displaying when hooked to a computer. A mechanic told me it was the tipm and I would have to take it to a dealer. After looking online, I found many other complaints for the same problem. Engine seems to have a better start record if I turn the key on and wait 2 seconds before starting vs immediately trying to crank the car as soon as I insert the key. Remote start rarely works now. My main concern is the engine dying while my wife is driving in heavy traffic (she is the primary driver). To me, this is a much more pressing issue than the current recalls.
I bought this vehicle new in 2007. I have only had minor problems until this began. The vehicle idle began fluctuating while sitting still. It would rev to 2000 rpms and drop and nearly stall. It doesn't happen regularly, so I wasn't concerned. Then it stalled on my wife in the drive thru. I cleaned the throttle body and replaced all spark plugs and coil packs at around 60000. This had little or no effect. We continued to drive for a few months and then this problem began. My wife called and stated it lost power steering and throttle, but the engine was still running. She turned it off and restarted and everything was fine. I thought she had mistaken because the ac and some gauges will operate if the key is on but engine is off. Then it happened while I was driving. I was running 60 mph and it cut out. I lost all power steering and could hear the engine running, but had no power at the accelerator. I shifted to neutral and restarted and everything was fine. In that few seconds, I dropped to 35 mph. Had this been on the interstate, it could have been tragic. I checked online because I have no clue what would cause this other than a computer issue and found others have had the same issue. I will be calling my dealer to find a cause. My wife is afraid to drive the vehicle now with our four sons in the car until this is fixed. I completely understand her point. There is no way she will be able to muscle the car to the side of the road if this happens to her. It is only a matter of time until a family is rear ended on the interstate because the vehicle stalls. It's very confusing because the vehicle is running, but no power steering and no response from the accelerator. This vehicle will now be sitting in my garage until a remedy is found.

I was driving on the highway at 65mph, and the vehicle shut off completely. Lost power steering, power brakes, everything. Had 3 small children in the car and had to with all my power (I am 5'9" 235 lbs) navigate the vehicle to the side of the road. I have found this is extremely common problem with this vehicle. Many of the posts state is a manufacturing flaw of where the pcm is placed in the engine.

As I have found online, what has happened to my Durango has happened to many other owners that also caused near misses and some accidents. While driving vehicle in the rain, I hit a puddle no deeper than 3-4 inches and on multiple occasions have lost all power steering and control of vehicle and many times came very close to impacting other vehicles. This happens on straight and turning situations. As with the other reports, there are no leaks found or detected. On two occasions my repair shop has contacted by phone daimler Chrysler and no information was given except that they also have had many reports but could offer no explanation or repair instruction.

My complaint concerns the 2006 Dodge Durango slt. I was driving during rainy/stormy weather on Sunday, 06/17/2007 when I hit a puddle, I lost power steering and I was forced to stop. I was terrified, and I was unable to steer at all. I was able to make it to my destination and stopped briefly at a gas station to gather my wits. At that time the battery light came on as well, then it went off. When I was calm enough to go home the same thing happened and I was forced to stop in my subdivision to avoid hitting parked cars. These two incidents were preceded by two similar incidents which were experienced by my fiance'. He took the Durango to findley Chrysler in tomball, TX the first time this happened and on Monday, 06/18/2007, he took the Durango to tomball Dodge, and both certified dealerships told us that nothing was wrong with the SUV. They just notified us to bring it back to them again if the power steering failure again. We opted to get rid of the vehicle rather than being unable to get the problem repaired or our questions answered and risk an accident, property damage and possibly our deaths.
