My Durango stalls when I'm driving and restarts on its own. I had the fuel pump relay changed already which I had to pay out of pocket because Dodge doesn't have the replacement part. My vehicle continues to stall with out notice and am scared to drive it. I took it back to the dealership and they kept my car for a week. The car never stalled when the drove it around a few times. This car is very dangerous due to the fact that it stops at any moment and you lose complete power. At anytime you could crash without notice.

This vehicle has consistently given me problems with stalling. Year after year with this vehicle and I'm to the point to where I can barely drive it yet still have to pay payment after payment while fearing for mine and my children's safety in it. It's already had a recall fixed a few years back with something involving the fuel pump relay and that yet has to stop the stalling and the dealer can never tell me what the issue is. . . I can be driving 70 mph miles down the highway or 30 mph in residential and it just completely dies out on me and I lose control of power steering and all electrical goes out on dash. Sometimes I can just keep turning over ignition and it will pick right back up then other times I have to put in park and restart. I have at times, but not each time, associate the stall with hitting potholes or going over railroad tracks, bridges or anything that makes the vehicle feel a bump yet other times it does it for no reason whatsoever. I either need it to be fixed or given another vehicle of equal value. I've paid so much already and still owe 11 payments and can not afford to just purchase another vehicle. Would appreciate some help resulting in a solution to benefit me and my family's safety. The date below for when did it occur is today's date as it done it today and has done so over the last 5/6 years I've had it. .

For months now, I have had to complain to my Dodge dealer where I purchased my 2013 Dodge Durango and get it serviced about how it suddenly stalls while driving. I have associated it with hitting a bump such as a pothole or going over railroad tracks and it will die out and I have to put it in park. It will then start right back up. It has happened on city streets as well as highways. No codes are showing up and battery and alternator check out fine. Cables all have a good connection and fuses are said to be good. I get told "have to wait until it gets worse" or "you'll have to leave it with us so we can drive it and wait for it to do it" but this is my only vehicle and it may do it numerous times one day and will never do it again over the next month. It's random. I have noticed there was an alternator recall on 2011-14 yr makes of the Durangos but my VIN shows mine is clear and the fuel pump relay recall has been fixed. Something is definitely not right.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Dodge Durango. While driving, the temperature gauge and power steering indicators illuminated. The contact drove home, inspected the vehicle, and diagnosed that the water pump failed. The contact stated that the water pump failed due to defective materials. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

My power steering started to go out intermittently about a month ago. We were sure if it was a glitch since the car can sometimes be glitchy, like the radio functions not working or the car cuts off but is somehow still running. Anyway, on 18 Aug, I noticed that the power steering would go out if you don't press the break paddle. Again, it didn't start out that way, but proceeded the move I drove. By 26 Aug, it was going out just about from the time I started the car until I stopped for the day. I took it to the dealership on28 Aug and had the pump replaced. I got my car back on 29 Aug. So far, no issues. The incidents took place mainly while slowing down to make a turn, parking. I noticed that it a little when I was driving that the wheel would stiffen but it was not too bad since I could just press the gas paddle and it would loosen.
The very first time was when I was slowing down from about 50mph at a corner in order to take a right hand turn, about halfway through the 90° corner I feel that the steering has stiffened. Looking down, I see that the tachometer now reads 0, and the engine has died. I cannot simply slip it into neutral and then restart it because of the car has a keyless pushbutton and the start button only works with the drive in park. I then have to armstrong it through the rest of the corner. As I finish up the turn to where I can safely stop and restart, I then push the brakes only to find that they are now totally stiff because there is now no vacuum left to assist. I end up costing to a stop. The car always restarts without any problem. This problem has persisted and has happened at least 20 times since. It is always is when slowing down from anywhere from 60 to 30 mph and beginning to take a right turn. I have never seen this happen when doing a left, but there are not to many chances to duplicate this scenario doing a left. We had the one recall for the fuel pump done so that should not be it. We have complained about this to numerous Dodge dealers and they have done nothing. One service writer said that he knew of the problem, knew that the fuel pump recall was not fixing it and that there was going to be another recall to fix the problem. When this happens unexpectedly as you are going 25 mph in a traffic roundabout, it is all you can do to try to steer through the rest of the traffic circle, only to find that your power brakes are failed as you try to stop to restart. This is a very serious defect that needs immediate attention, someone is going to be killed with this happening, either the occupants of the car, or the public. We also have a 2011 Jeep grand cherokee and it is doing the exact same thing, but more because it is driven more.

My 2000 Dodge Durango all of a sudden just stalls on me while driving. My chilren have been in the car when happening scares me bc of traffic hitting me. I've changed all sensors fuel pump spark plugs and spark plug wiring raditor fan cleaned cadiallac convertor checked all relays all good wiring is all good but still having issues a no bus code pops up when dies and have had the truck its diied several times at intersciton highways work everywhere its very dangerous and I've checked and lots of people have had the same issues. These vehicles need to be recalled before someone gets seriously injured espically like a child I've givin up on driving my truck because I'm not putting my children in anymore danger. And I've seen people on here complaining avout the same issues and nothing is being done.

Leased 2012 Durango on 12/28/11. At 9353 miles on 12/7/12 the power steering system ruptured while making a turn into a parking lot. Power steering fluid covered engine and engine compartment. Complete failure of all power steering, vehicle was very difficult to maneuver to a safe spot out of traffic. Vehicle had to be flatbed to dealer. Dodge service stated that a fitting on a hose had broken or fallen off. It was repaired. At 21,922 miles on 1/09/13 once again as I pulled out of traffic into a shopping center the same thing happened again. Complete failure of all power steering, flatbed to Dodge dealer and am told that all hoses and pump assembly need to be replaced. I understand something happening once. Twice is a issue. Contacted Dodge and was told there are no other reports of this. After a little searching Dodge customer service rep said there have been reports of something like this on some 2012 jeeps.
Car auto-stopped while conducting driving lesson for my 15-year-old stepdaughter. We were traveling 40mph on a country road at the time. She drifted off the side of the road, said the steering wheel was stuck. I told her to apply the brakes. She said she was and they weren't working either. We went through a stop sign and were very nearly t-boned by cars from both directions. My stepdaughter sensibly did as I instructed and pushed as hard as possible on the brake, managed to stop the car before plunging into the river in front of us. I had been having problems with the car for six months previous to this incident. Two diagnostics reported that the vehicle was auto-stopping but not why this was occurring. A local mechanic suggested it was probably the gas gauge sensor in the fuel pump which made sense to me because everything but the gas gauge worked whenever the car auto-stopped. It would typically restart within 15 minutes or so. I assumed we had solved the problem when the mechanic replaced the fuel pump. I know now that the fuel pump was not the problem although I don't know what is wrong with the car. I have researched this on the internet and found there are hundreds of other people going through the same difficulties with 1999 Dodge Durangos. My wife, stepdaughter and I were very lucky not to have been seriously injured during the driving lesson. This situation needs to be addressed before someone is hurt (if they haven't been already).

I have a Dodge Durango 2004. When it rains or I drive over a wet pavement the power steering belt gets wet and the steering wheel is hard to turn, causing the driverto loose control. The dealer cheked it and told me not to drive on rainy days (basically).

I was driving on a highway offramp at approximately 45 mph. The steering wheel locked for approx 3 seconds. It then unlocked allowing me to regain control of the vehicle. The steering continued to lock and unlock periodically. The cause was the power steering pump. However, this incident was different from the normal situation where power steering fails because the steering was also substantially affected at speed and not just when the vehicle is at a virtual standstill. My mileage is approx 65000.

Upon arriving home from a family vacation, total trip of 200 miles, and towing an eighteen foot trailer, we suddenly lost all power steering ability on our 2000 Dodge Durango. That was a very scary experience. It is also a very premature part failure due to the fact that our Durango has only 50,000 miles on it. We are currently awaiting the full replacement of the power steering pump due to the fact that the power steering pump shaft inside the pump suddenly and unexplainably broke. I am really glad that this did not occur during our travel on the major highways we had to take on our way home, especially since we had our four year old grandson in the vehicle with us.
On April 26, 2004 I arrived at a business meeting and parked my 2001 r/t Durango, and set my alarm with the keyless entry. From my client's office I noticed whitish/gray smoke and observed that the smoke was billowing from under the hood of my truck! I rushed outside. Upon arriving in the parking lot I was stopped by the police and fire department from approaching my Durango as they were afraid it might explode. The flames were already four feet above the hood. The fire took my engine, bumpers, lights, hood, fender, left front tire & severally damaged the car directly in front of mine & slightly damaged the car to the left corner. State farm's investigation determined that the failure was caused by the ignition of power steering fluid onto hot surfaces of the exhaust system with the fire extending upward and outward, causing the damage present" which was the total loss of my vehicle. I filed a special investigation report with Chrysler and they sent me back a letter stating that my claim was denied. In other words nothing was done by Chrysler to correct the failure although state farm is in subrogation as they found several technical service bulletins # 19-005-03 and 19-009-00 that they feel pertained to this event. The third party fire investigator informed me that this happened before, and that the person that Chrysler sent to inspect vehicle was not a licensed fire inspector, and that mr. Pitt (Chrysler's rep. ) was not qualified to determine the cause of the fire. I wrote a letter to the president of Chrysler and the director of customer service. A month later received a call from them stating again that my claim was denied, and that they would not tell me what they determined caused the fire on recommendation from their legal staff. I replied it sounded like they were trying to hide something, and he told me that he would refer my claim back to the special investigation unit, and I am still waiting for a returned call. The last contact was 7/15/2004.
Had to replace upper & lower ball joints in my 2001 Durango after replacing prematurely worn out tires, dealer said it would cost close to $1,000 since I am 1,000 miles over my warranty. Also had to replace power steering pump at a cost of $600 don't know if this is a result of the defective ball joints however.
Consumer complained about ongoing problems with intermittent /momentary power steering loss while driving. The power steering pump was replaced four times within 16,227 miles. Mechanic was unable to locate the problem. Manufacturer was not notified at this time.
I bought my truck used and had them do a complete work up on it when I purchased it. Everything was fine for 1 week. After that week my engine light came on. I took it back to the dealer and had them replace the "canister" because that's what they said was the problem. 1 week later it returned. I have had it cleared out about 100 times. It now keeps telling me I have a gas leak. My mechanic has looked at this truck more than the average time. Now I am at 130,000 miles and my suspension is completely shot, power steering pump, automatic locks are slowly malfunctioning (they make a loud noise on 2 of the doors), and the drivers side window doesn't roll down.
