Tl the contact owns a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. While driving 40 mph, the alternator completely detached from the vehicle without warning. While the engine was running, the vehicle lost all function and was towed to the contact's home. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
My van has had flickering headlights and dashboard lights. I replaced the alternator and the battery had been replaced recently as well and it is still doing it. Driving home from work today it was flickering a lot and the dash board lights were flickering a lot as well. Makes it hard to see driving at night.
The van has had a problem for the last 3 months. Riding on the van, suddenly the gauges in the dashboard start to flicker and jump like crazy and the engine stalls and dies in the middle of the road. This is dangerous. I can cause an accident. I have changed the alternator, the battery, the pcm, and still have the problem. I have contacted the factory and they don't have a solution for this dangerous situation. There are many vehicles in the same situation. Does the factory have to assume some responsibility?.
The headlights will go on and off at any time. This happens while driving or while parked for the night. I have replaced the headlight switch on three occasions, first only the switch, next the switch and battery, and then finally the switch and alternator. Each repair lasts for a few months then the problem returns. This is a very unsafe condition as it happens at night driving. As this is an intermittent issue I cannot get a true diagnosis.
2005 Dodge Grand Caravan sxt with 3. 8liter engine has dash light cluster flicker, headlight flicker and with every dash light lighting up and gauges going dead, then reappearing. Dealer tried to say it was battery, replaced it, then they said alternator, replaced it. After research, it appears they did not check body control module. My research indicates this is a significant problem, and no auto parts recyclers in north texas can keep bcm's in stock because of the demand. Significantly, the dealers want to charge $300-400 for the part, then $100 for programming it. My research also indicates the manufacturer may have been aware of the problem and superceded the part with an improvement. The old part number 4692158aa has been replaced with 4692158ab. I think this part should be replaced free of charge on a recall as the problem appears to be nationwide based on the websites I have read comments. Further, many dealers are apparently taking advantage of the customers by selling them parts they do not need because they are not testing the bcm or voluntarily choosing to find the problem after the customer has fed the dealer coffers for batteries and alternators, etc.
Head lights, dash lights and radio lights keep flickering. I have took my Dodge Grand Caravan back to a Chrysler/Dodge dealership 7 or 8 times so far in less than 1 year for this same problem. Body control module, alternator and several other electrical circuits have been replaced and I am still having problems. Sometimes it is so severe that the headlights and dash lights completely go out and come back on. I drive a lot of highway miles 1/3 of it in the dark. It is very unsafe for me to drive without lights, but I have no other option if I want to remain employed. Please let me know what I can do about this.
: the contact stated the headlights, dash board lights and dome lights intermittently flicker. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership numerous times for repair. The dealership mechanic replaced the headlight switch, body control module, alternator, inspected and cleaned the ground circuits. These modifications and repairs to the vehicle were unsuccessful.
