Key fob on recall for over six months. Engine will occasionally shut down while driving. Key sometimes not recognized and must be reinserted to start. Can not get Dodge on the phone. Dealers have no suggestions.
The vehicle cuts off at normal operating speed on bumpy surfaces or after going over bumps in the road. Vehicle lost power steering, braking, and the engine cuts off. This resulted in and emergency exit from the lane of travel. This has happened multiple times over the past 12 months. This appears to be the same symptoms of a current recall for the ignition switch on similar vehicles of this model. Dodge makes no attempt to assist with verifying that there is an issue.
The vehicle just quite--it died in the middle of the road. . . There was a recall on this vehicle from Chrysler but they stopped 2 months before this one. . Called the dealer and they said sorry. . . It happened numerous times. . . The recall was on the ignition module which was what they changed on my van. . $850. 00 dollars worth.
On or about December 5th 2014, my wife attempted to start the above mentioned vehicle with no success. We had to have it towed from colonial beach, va to safford automotive in fredericksburg, va to be repaired. After diagnosing, the win module was found to be bad also both door modules flashed bad. Win module was replaced and two new key fobs had to be issued and programmed. Our cost was $906. 65. This item was on the recall list but we were made to pay out of pocket. We have spoken to the dealer and the better business bureau but have not been successful. We feel it is unfair that we were made to pay for something that was recalled. This expense caused a significant hardship to our family. We hope you are able to help us get our money back. Thank you in advance for your help. We are in possession of both the recall notice as well as the original receipt.
Ignition switch became "loose" started to have trouble with the switch being inoperable - could not start the van with the switch. A couple times the vehicle turned off while idling to warm up.
I've been waiting for the longest time, for the Dodge dealership to replace the part, or parts that the recall people, was recalling the vehicle for. But instead, they keep telling me that the part, or parts hasn't come in yet. I've been having on going problems since forever, with this vehicle dying out on me, and my family;__too many times. And not only that! but my money is very important to me too. And I don't like paying out my money;__towards anything, that has been a continuos problem for me, and my family. The ignition key was displaced from the run to the accessory position while driving, causing the engine to shut off. I called Dodge and they stated this car was already recalled for this problem in 2011 and according to them was fixed at that time. I bought the car in 2012 used and this problem reappeared.
I live in troy michigan and on a trip to go pick up my teenage daughter driving. On m-59 my car started expelling coolant in the form. Of steam from underneath the hood and inside the vehicle. I immediate stopped at the closest automotive store. Less. Than a mile from where it started the incident. It was discovered by the mechanic at bell tire that the steel intercooler lines that run to the interior heater had ruptured. I contacted Chrysler as steel tube should not fail unless some manufacture issue was overlooked. As a senior systems engineer mean time before failure on a component like this should have never happened at the low mileage on the vehicle. I followed up to find. Out cost to repair and the sales rep also let me know that a second Grand Caravan 2008 model had just come. In with the same failure. This is absolutely Chrysler failure to engineer this correctly and I would. Lile to see this resolved before greater damage is done.
Transmission feels like it is going to come out of the front end of my car. It makes the car move forward when it does it. Notified dealer and they tried it, it did not do it for them, so they say they can not fix it. Tried it once. Under warranty, but no codes again.
Our 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan is over consuming oil. We have a normal oil change done and before we get to the 3000 miles when the next one is to be done the van is dry/out of oil! the light comes on the dash indicating there is no oil and the oil level in the van does not even reach the dip stick, it is completely dry. We took the van in April 2014 to zeigler in downers grove, IL and they had us come back every 1000 miles to check again, each time it was at least 1. 5 or so quarts low. They would top it off and say come back in 1000 miles. That is not normal a vehicle should not keep needing oil to be added and if no oil is added it is empty before you have driven 3000 miles. Since the dealer was no help saying it is normal, which this is not, I have never had to add oil to any of my vehicles between oil changes, today we called Chrysler to handle the problem. . . All Chrysler would do was call the dealer who told them this is normal and said that they have to side with the dealer and not fix the problem. . . We paid for an extended warranty on this van and it needs to be fixed ASAP before the warranty is up!!!!.
With 4000 miles since last oil change, the oil light came on while driving down the road. Put 2 quarts of 5w20 oil in the engine and it was still below the add line on the dipstick. Dealer stated that they don't know what is causing it and they would charge me $50 just to see what is wrong and to see if the warranty covers it.
The ignition moved itself from start to accessory, shutting of the engine, disabling the power steering and brakes. Luckily I was already coming to a stop otherwise my lack of power steering and power brakes would have caused me to crash by the time I realized what had happened.
Driving through a school zone to take my daughter to school. The engine just stopped with no warning. This caused me to loose power steering and brakes. This happened on 6 subsequent occasions in different areas and at different speeds between November 2013 and March 2014 the most recent was March 11, 2014.
The distance was about 35 miles from our home, bout 45 minutes drive. Driver didn't notice anything wrong with the engine or see any warning lights. The car was swaying like on a windy day, another car honked at us, then we heard loud road noise. We pulled over and turned off the engine. Saw the rear passenger tire was flat to the rim. Noticed a smokey smell. Saw little puffs of white smoke coming from under the hood. To be safe we removed children from the car; two 4 yr old children were in the backseat buckled in their car-seats. Infant was in the middle drivers side seat buckled in his car seat. Driver and car owner were in the front. Keys were removed from the ignition. We walked away from the vehicle, waited at the fence-line away from the vehicle while calling for a tow. Smoke appeared to have stopped for about 5 minutes. Suddenly black smoke started pouring out of the engine, embers dropping to the road from under the front of the car. We moved the children further away from the vehicle. Several truckers pulled over and brought fire extinguishers. One opened the hood flames flared up the fire truck arrived after the fire had been extinguished. One said the fire appeared to have started in the fan. The chp officer said the firefighters would disconnect the battery. When we looked at the inside of the front of the car everything was burnt and melted, the hood was buckled, front grill melted. The fire was extinguished before the rest of the car was damaged.
Jan 31, 2:00pm I parked the vehicle to pick my son up from pre-school. After securing my children to their respective car seats, I buckled myself in and proceeded to start the engine, the vehicle's engine would not start. Strong electrical-smelling fumes were emitted and the etc light came on. We had the vehicle towed to a Jeep, Dodge, & Chrysler dealership for servicing for 5 days. The service tech insisted that nothing was detected aside from slight corrosion in the battery plugs, which needed to be replaced. We did what was advised and took our vehicle back on Feb 6. Feb 13, 9:45am after making a quick stop at a grocery store, the same problem occurred. The vehicle engine would not start, but the radio was coming on. I turned off the vehicle and proceeded to restart the vehicle. Once again the etc light came on and this time, white smoke was coming out from under the hood. After seeing the smoke, I quickly turned off the vehicle and took my child out. Our vehicle is now stranded in the parking lot of a grocery store waiting to be towed to the same dealership.
I was driving on the highway at 60 mph, hit a large (approx 6 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet) wooden shipping crate. The crate exploded, and a board became lodged in the tire well and engine compartment. I also lost power the vehicle - the wrecker driver advised that the board appeared to have disconnected the computer wires. The crate hit on the front driver fender. The airbags did not deploy. I would think hitting something the size of the front end of a car at 60 mph should set off the air bags.
Please look into the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravans shutting off just like the gm models. My van shuts off with loss of power steering and brakes at least once a week. The dealer always tells me there is no error code. Several complaints out there, why is nothing being done? I do not want to die in my van! I have 3 children.
Electronic throttle control light comes on periodically, causing inconsistent, poor or non-existent throttle response. Traction control light may also light up. Restarting the vehicle usually makes the problem go away, but this is not an acceptable solution. Occasionally, with the etc light on, throttle response does not occur at all, which is hazardous in traffic.
Took my van into colorado Chrysler Jeep on July 19, 2011 for recall #l25, they have not done the work as of 10-31-2011. They are telling me that the part is on back order, it has been over 3 months?????? what's wrong with this?.
This is my forth complaint since purchasing the van. Who has to due before NHTSA does anything about this. I have been complaining to Dodge since I first bought the van. It will shut off riding down the rode. The dealership said to just wiggle the web (the van does not have a standard key) when the van shuts off. The dealership said sometimes the connections are broken between the web and van.
This is a leased vehicle. I had it approximately 6 months when driving 65 mph on a freeway the engine abruptly stopped just like someone turned the key off. The steering barely allowed me to get to the side of the road. I was able to put the car into neutral and restart it. The 2nd occurrence was 3 weeks after the 1st but this time it was when trying to accelerate onto a freeway where trucks and cars were driving 75 mph! the 3rd occurrence was about 6 weeks after the 2nd. All 3 times the dealer could not find a problem nor replicate the problem. . Read more...
2010 Dodge Grand Caravan shuts off when turned on and put into reverse or drive does not happen all the time also has done it while at low speed pulling into parking space.
We purchased a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan in December 2010. Three weeks ago as I was pulling out of a driveway that had a drain gutter dip the van shut off completely. I hit the dip at about 10 mph. Two weeks ago it happened again. This time when I went over a speed bump in heavy traffic. The Dodge dealer repair shop said they could not find any loose connections or codes. They seemed to care very little of our report and said they could not recreate the trouble and to call them next time. Only after calling the dealer executives we are to bring the van back for a check by a mechanic. Other thoughts: both times I had to put the gear in neutral to restart. Both front tires hit at the same time. When only one wheel hits a bump or pothole , it does not happen. We were at about 5,000 miles when this happened.
I purchased a brand new 2010 Grand Caravan se in January. While making a turn over a puddle of water the car powered down, I. E. Lost power steering and all control. I then took the key out and put it back in and it powered up. This occurred within the 1st 100 miles. At 350-400 miles it started to power down while stopping at a red light but did not completely shut down. This occurred again between 450-500 miles. I took the car into the dealer & they could not find a problem. I contacted the dealer for each occurrence. No accidents, yet.
