general problems of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan - part 2

My 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan 3. 6l shuts off randomly while driving. It has happened at highway speed on the interstate in traffic and on local roads. There is no warning. It will restart. There is a recall for this issue for 2008-2010 caravan, but obviously it needs to be extended. This is a dangerous issue.

While driving 55 mph on the highway all the lights on the dashboard began flashing and the vehicle lost all power - no power steering, no brakes, no engine, nothing. Luckily I was going uphill in the mountains without any traffic and was able to eventually stop. Had there been a vehicle behind me, the results could have been fatal. The vehicle was towed to a nearby trusted shop. They are saying it needs a whole new engine. The problem is, even with a replacement engine, this could happen again with a new/rebuilt Chrysler/Dodge engine. Keep reading please. In researching, I found that this is a known issue with this and other Chrysler/Dodge models. There was a previous class action suit in California settled regarding this issue that required all plaintiffs to file before December 2018. Sadly, I did not purchase the vehicle until 2019 and this issue did not occur until 2021. I'm hoping there is some way to make Chrysler/Dodge accept responsibility for this through a recall or another class action suit as I have read many complaints online regarding this issue. How many people have to die before somebody does something about this?.

My van cut off in the driveway, thankfully I was parked and will not turn over or crank back up. We had just gotten home,, we could have been on the interstate!!! there is a red light blinking light under the neutral. I am reading hundreds of complaints of the same problem and this should be recalled. My van is a handicap accessible van for my daughter and thankfully we were not driving down the highway when this happened. We had just gotten home from celebrating her birthday and had her, my 82 year old granny, my wife and myself. We could have been killed. This is dangerous. I had it looked at and it is giving a code u1197 that's a security code. This needs to be recalled immediately!!! there are too many complaints.

While driving my van, I attempted to turn left on a city street, when everything shut down on me. All of my dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. I had no steering, no brakes, it was frightening! I did have headlights, flashers, I couldn't access the side doors to ge my cane out. My back gate wouldn't open either so I could get my rollerator and walk to the business I was attempting to get to. I had to have my van towed and was told it's my electrical system and that many people have had the same issue. I would like to bring my awareness to this issue, for if I was on 95, my main highway and this happened, I would be dead along with my son. Attached is the dashboard, but the center bottom red light was flashing on and off. I'm told it's my security system light.

Bought this 2012 Dodge caravan 1 month ago. Last week it stalled twice mid driving, once while slowing down nearing a stop light and once while driving highway speeds. Lucky I was able to find a large enough shoulder to pull over on and not cause an accident. Looks like this is a common issue, wondering what we can do to fix it/should this be recalled before lives are put at risk? not much confidence in our new vehicle.

While driving this vehicle will shut off on its own and then restart. This has happened several times. I was going 65mph on the highway and it just shut off and restarted. Thankfully no one was behind me when this happened because it could have cost us our life. I also am having issues with my sliding doors. Neither one will lock, not with door lock switch, not with key fob, not manually. Upon researching, I have seen at least 200 complaints for the same issue.

Seat belt warning chime is periodical activated while vehicle is in motion and seat buckle is engaged.

My van will completely turn off while driving. There are no know reasons, I have had it serviced and the mechanic cannot figure what's wrong. There are no specific factors of when and why it cuts off while driving.

My wife and I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, my wife drives the car on a daily basis school runs, etc with our 4 kids. While driving the kids to school and stopped at a red light the vehicle suddenly with no warning lost all power and shutdown. My wife said she was able to restart it again right away, then just before she got home the car suddenly and again no warning shut down everything no power whatsoever she was unable to remove the key from the ignition. After attaching a battery pack we were able to get it restarted and drive home thankfully no one was behind her at the time as it would most definetly have resulted in a crash. Since then this has occured several more times sometimes it will be a day or couple days but it will always just die with no warning, my wife refuses to drive the car now as both she and I are afraid for the kids and her safety. I have checked and fixed various items including a new battery,alternator and asd relay all of which did not fix the issue. I see Dodge has issued recalls for the ignition switch on previous years. I believe Dodge needs to look at the 2012 and fix whatever this issue is as I have saw numerous people experiencing the same issue. I am a father supporting my wife and 4 kids and cannot afford a bottomless pit of maybe its this/that. Dodge needs to step up it could be the difference of saving someones life.

The air bag on the right front has came out and the fuel pump relay in the fuse box need to be under warranty for the dealer making it like that.

We bought this van used about a year ago. It dies suddenly without any warning in the middle of the road regardless of any certain factors. I have researched this several times with many other complaints similar to this one. This is very dangerous for my family and I cannot believe there is no recall. I am a mother of 3 and cannot afford to pay upwards of 10,000$ to replace an ignition if this is the issue, I am not in any way a mechanic but I have read/heard that is most likely the problem. Dodge, please do what is right for the people who put their faith in your company every time they put their families in your vehicles and recall this immediately!.

Cold start engine rattle for a few seconds. While driving vibration is felt at 1200 to 1500 rpm.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the air bag, abs, and battery warning lights illuminated before the vehicle stalled. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally for a while before the failure recurred. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 143,000.

Driver rear door slides open and closes by itself. Worries that a kid might get trapped. No one opens it or closes it. It won't stop closing by putting force to stop it. Always does it in park with keys off. In or outside vehicle.

While driving the van it randomly shuts off completely.

Faulty timp causing issue with fuel pump module/relay. Faulty start and unable to turn on vehicle. This happened approximately 4 times in a parked position within a 24 hour period before vehicle was no longer drivable. Intermittent check engine light within the previous 3 weeks prior. Vehicle was inspected by a certified dealership to diagnose the issue.

The car was parked in the driveway. We attempting to turn the care on it just cranks and won't kick over. The fuse for the fuel pump has gone bad in the tipm. And the car now starts intermittently. I need to have a rely put in.

Our Dodge Grand Caravan was stationary and experienced intermittent starting problems over a period of months and sometimes when it did start, it would stall shortly after starting while in motion. Finally, it would not start after repeated attempts, waiting are trying again. We had it towed to our mechanic who tested it and found that it was the fuel pump relay. He said it was common to may Dodge and Jeep models. They all have the same circuit board. He recommended taking it to a dealer for repairs even though it had not yet been recalled. The dealer confirmed that they had the parts for the fix and fixed the fuel pump relay problem. The repair has a 2 year warranty. An employee of dealer expressed that it may be 3 months from the October 8, 2020 repair, but eventually Chrysler would issue a recall since so many models with this part have been recalled. We were advised to keep the receipt for later reimbursement. It is now March 14, 2021 and no recall has been made for our vehicle. Please try to expedite this recall. The NHTSA probably is not getting many complaints because everyone with the problem expects it to be handled soon. Thank you for your help.

I went to unlock my vehicle to get something from inside. I noticed that the lights were very dim and after placing the key fob into the ignition, the fob was locked in place. After about 15 minutes, I was able to release it from the ignition. I have tried resetting the battery among other things and nothing has helped.

The vehicle either will take several attempts to start or will completely shut down during operation without warning. The engine will abruptly stall and power brakes and steering fail. Immediately afterward the vehicle behaves as if the key was just turned to the on position, meaning the dashboard lights up, and it can be put in neutral and restarted. No specific activity triggers the shutdown. It can happen while driving at any speed in any conditions or while idling.

I got an oil change and an inspection the inspection report was good, no major mechanical issues. Only recommendation was a power steering flush next time I came in for an oil change. I drove the van home 1/2 mile away. I parked the van. I saw light smoke coming from under the hood on the passenger side. It smelled like burnt rubber. I proceeded to drive back to shop 1/4 mile away. The van lost all power at a stop sign. I saw more darker smoke coming out. I got out of the van immediately. Within 2 minutes the vans front end was in flames.

The engine shuts down while I am driving. I have to put the gear shift in n and restart. Also, the car does not start every time.

Took my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan to the tempe dealership to have the recalls fixed. Soon after they did the recalls my car would not drive off the lot they told me that the fuel pump was bad and it would cost $806 to fix it. So I told them lets do it. I get a call an the said its the tipm ! $1400 dollars later my car is still running pretty rough and not getting power and completely shut down while driving. So I call the dealer and they tow it in to tell me it is my fuel pump. So $800 they said its fixed and I should have nothing going wrong. 3 days later my check engine light comes on and a code p0456 evac leak! so I call the dealer and let them know . I then purchased a gas cap just to make sure that was not the problem. Light stayed on. So I get the van to the dealer and they had my van allday to say its my gas cap . Let me remind you I just purchased one. So they get the check engine light to go off and now everytime I fill the tank up gas fumes are soo strong in the vehicle and is running very poorly. Honestly im scared to have them look at it . I just want my van safe I have kids . Its my only vehicle.

2012 Dodge Grand Caravan turns off while driving. Rate of speed doesn't determine frequency. Vehicle losses power without warning . Once vehicle comes to a stop will start back up. It has been determined that the ignition receiver does not support the size and weight of the key. Occurs on all roadways city roads highways etc. . . Has happened multiple times.

Key fobs no longer work even after batteries have been changed.

I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan the sliding door has been making a buzzing sound every time you unlock and lock the doors. This has been happening since 2016 and the dealership told me it would be $500 to fix it. I am now having issues with trunk opening and closing on it's own; even when it is locked. Not safe at all and already got stormed inside of my van; cause I didn't realize it was opened. They told me I would have to pay the fee to get it looked at and then pay for the repairs. I had a new transmission put in at 74,330 miles after they told me when I left the first time; that it was a computer reset that needed done. Then, they had my van for 2 weeks trying to get the transmission built. And my transmission is slipping again. At 139,466 miles I had all of my transmissions lines leaking and had replace all of them for another $500; cause there was no warranty from them doing my second transmission. My cd player eats my cd's now and my ac quit working. All in all I do love my van, but I am getting very angry at all the issues; that should covered under a recall and they are not covered. If anyone could please give me some in site on these issues; I would appreciate it. I am not in the position to purchase another car at this time with jobs not very secure. I am not even able to take my van many places; cause I never know when the truck will open on its own and then someone can just steal my van. I listed the last day of all of my issues below, but this has been going on for years and still not resolved.

Within the last week (may 8, 2020 - may 15, 2020) my van has suddenly stalled and died 3 different times. Incident 1 - driving on a 45 mph straight road when suddenly the engine died and lost power to all electrical components. After pulling off to the side and shutting the ignition completely off it started right back up and ran well. Incident 2 - driving on a 30 mph straight road. After just having crossed a bridge suddenly the engine died and lost power to all electrical components. Again, it started back up just fine and ran well. Incident 3 - pulled into a parking spot and placed the vehicle in park when the engine and electrical components shut off.

Bought the van and with in 2 days just driving an it cuts off, no warning nothing, can click back on at any time. . . Engine reeves up sounds like it's gonna blow up. . You have to either put it in neutral or pull off the road and turn it off and it will crank right back up. . . It does this at any given time. . This is very dangerous when your driving at high rates or low rates of speed. It's gonna cuss a bad wreck one day. .

The vehicle died while driving down the highway at 65mph. I had to pull over on the side of a busy two lane highway and call a tow service. I had to have some fuses replaced and then replaced the battery. I was driving it five days later and it did the same thing. Luckily I was in my driveway this time. I checked the fuses and and everything looked good. I was able to start it back up and get it home. Both times this has happened I have had my 3 kids and girlfriend in the vehicle. This is a major safety issue that needs to be fixed. I have read online that multiple persons are having the same or similar issues. Best I can gather is it is a ignition switch issue. I am not sure what to do but I do not want to trade it in or sell it and put another family in danger.

Fuel pump keeps running. It then kills the battery. The fuel pump will not kick on at all. When driving the van would just shut off. This has been going on for a few weeks and now will not start. Researched and had it tested. It is the tipm. Totally integrated power module. This has been recalled in both Dodge durango and the Jeep. Many Dodge caravans have the same problem. Could you please look into it for us. The part to fix it could be up to 2000.

We were driving down a crowded highway when everything on the vehicle shut down. All the lights shut off and we lost power steering. I had to fight my way over three lanes of traffic with no turn signals and had no power steering. When this happened we were going uphill and an 18 wheeler was behind us. We were rapidly slowing down and could have been hit by another vehicle. We came to a stop and put the vehicle in park and it started right back up. A few days later my wife had the same thing happen to her while driving on a dark roadway. She was able to come to a stop on the side of the road and restart the vehicle. There were no other cars around her at that time. R03/NHTSA 14v-373. Recalls Grand Caravan years 2008 to 2010. My problems sound and look exactly like this and seeing complaints around the internet it looks like many others with my year model are having the same issues. I think that recall needs to be extended to include the 2012 model year as well.

The tipm on some model vehicles has a recall but they all use the same tipm. It was shutting down on the roadway due to bad fluid pump relay.

Car just totallt stopped while driving. No power steering wheel locked up and key got stuck in ignition. Van would not start back up. This is super dangerous and could have put my family in extreme danger.

2012 Dodge caravan loses power while driving without warning! no check engine light. No codes. Shuts off in any condition. Very dangerous! have looked up the issue in Dodge forums and it's a known issue that could possibly have something to do with the tipm on many Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep vehicles. It's an intermittent issue. Had dropped off my kids at school and went to put van into park and van died but on its own came back on. Loses power intermittently while driving on freeway. Can even hear loss of power through the heater/ac unit. Please fix this issue before someone is killed! only way to prove is to let a mechanic/ Dodge drive it around and let them find out the hard way. Issue occurs when going o or any speed.
