1 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/08/2020

1st incidence occurred while accelerating to pull on to the highway. After accelerating and removing foot from pedal, the pedal did not release and the vehicle continued to rapidly accelerate. Applying the brakes did not stop the engine acceleration but did allow us to exit the highway and shift to neutral and turn off the car. Restarting the car, all returned to normal. However a little whike later while accelerating to pass a vehicle the gas pedal once again stuck in the downward position and would not release. Once again brake was applied and only after the vehicle dropped to arounf 40 mph did the throttle disengage.

7 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

Was driving down busy city expressway frontage road at approx 40 mph. Accelerated and passed the slower-moving vehicle ahead of me. . . . Upon clearing the vehicle I was passing, released my foot from accelerator, but vehicle failed to return to prior pass speed and instead continued to accelerate faster. Attempted to brake. . . . Pumped the brake hard when that didn't work but no luck. Held the brake pedal in to the floor as far as it would go to counter the engine audibly reving to gain more speed (hoping to slow the accelerate process as much as possible and maybe hold it at its current rate despite the engine still trying to go faster). I rode out the uncontrolled acceleration issue until coming to a long turn lane where I veered off to get away from other cars. Wth a busy intersection approaching quickly ahead of me and the braking not resolving the issue, I threw the vehicle into park and after a brief time it finally slowed to a stop. This is the only thing that worked. . . I even checked to see if gas pedal was physically stuck somehow on the floor mat (it was not), and lifted up from underneath it with my foot to verify this, during this attempt to regain speed control. . I believe it was this in addition to putting vehicle in "park" that actually stopped the engine acceleration/rev so the vehicle could physically stop. . . Ii is valid to note that I previously took this vehicle into the dealership (around 36000 miles) for evaluation with prior concerns over the engine/transmission not seeming to function right/smoothly. . . . The dealership reported that "they could find nothing wrong with it. " & it was returned to me with no adjustment/repair. This vehicle has several of theory same complaints on the web (acceleration stick/engine/transmission) over a span of several year models & nothing is being done about it or even acknowledging it. . . Huge safety issues here.

8 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/04/2015

On January 4th, while pulling into a neighbor's driveway, I tapped the brakes to stop (I was going less than 5mph, so I didn't need to press hard) the engine suddenly accelerated hard. I immediately slammed on the brakes harder to stop the acceleration, and my van ended up five to ten feet in my neighbor's yard. Two weeks later, I was pulling into a parking space at my son's work. I was moving slow and straightening the wheel approximately two to three feet from the sidewalk curb, when the engine acceleration surged and my van lurched forward. I again slammed on the brakes in order to not slam into the building wall just past the sidewalk, the van stopped on top of the sidewalk after hitting the the car parked next to my van (as my wheels were still turned from turning into the parking space. The damage to my van and the car hit by my van totaled over $10,000. If a pedestrian had been on the sidewalk in front of my van, they would have been seriously injured or killed. Both times the engine unexpectedly surged, my foot was on the brake, and the van was traveling less than 2 to 3 miles per hour. When the acceleration surged the van forward, it was extremely hard and fast as if the accelerator had been pounded to the floorboard. I have checked with my local Dodge dealer, who states there is no problem with this van and they have had absolutely no complaints about unexpected and powerful acceleration on the Dodge Grand Caravan. I find this hard to believe as there are many other reports on Dodge forum boards stating this exact unexpected and dangerous acceleration. I am afraid to drive my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan.

14 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/13/2012

Four separate instances of an unintended acceleration occurred within 5 minutes while traveling at low speeds (5 - 15 mph). Each of these instances is described below: 1. While turning right out of a gas station at about 5-10 mph, the car lurched forward and the power steering system seemed to fail (I. E. , the car was steering right and it was very difficult to keep from continuing right into a curb). The brakes worked fine and prevented a collision with the curb. I headed for a friend's house located nearby. 2. Approximately 500 - 1000 feet later, while turning left at 15 mph onto a side street, there was another unintended acceleration and the steering wheel was 'locked' left (I. E. , the power steering system again seemed to fail). The brakes on and the car collided with the curb at a low speed (1-3 mph). Had traffic been coming down the road, a car heading toward me would have hit the side of my car. 3. Approximately 500 feet down that street, while turning left onto another side street, the engine revved again for a second, and returned to normal. The steering and brakes were not adversely affected. 4. I proceeded slowly down that street for a distance of about 200 feet and was slowing down to park along the right hand side of the street. While going only about 2 mph, the car revved hard again, and lurched forward about 3 feet until I could stop the car. I stayed at the friend's house for 3 hours. 5. A service station was nearby and I drove slowly toward it. The car made a total of 3 right turns and 2 left turns without incident. However, when just starting to make a 4th right turn, the engine revved and the power steering seemed to fail again. I stopped the car and turned off the ignition. I proceeded a half mile to the repair station (with 3 left turns and 1 right turn), without incident.

15 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

On 1/18/20010 I experienced uncontrolled acceleration of my 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle was serviced at galeana Dodget, ft. Myers FL on 1/24. I was told that fuel induction parts needed cleaning and that would resolve the problem. On 1/24 after only 377 miles since service I experienced the problem again. I was in the middle lane of a 3 lane highway driving about 45 mph. When I began moving to the far left lane and bring the vehicle up to the posted speed of 50 mph I noticed the gas pedal depress beyond my intention. I attempted to stop accereration by applying the brakes to no effect. It slowed the rate of acceleration which resumed as soon as I released the brake. As the highway busy I had a hard time controlling the car and pulling back to the right lane so I could safely stop the car on the shoulder when I turned the ignition off. When I restarted the car the engine continued to race at over 4,000 rpms. Eventually after several times starting and stopping the ignition the engine returned to appropriate idle speed. As we were in a dangerous place and close to the place we were staying (on vacation) and did not know who to call I drove the car pack and parked it waiting instructions from Dodge on how to proceed. At this time I am afraid to drive the car as we had a very harrowing experience. Problem previously reported at a gasoline fuel system problem as that is the way the repair shop described it.
