My husband pulled into a parking space. He placed the caravan in park and left it running. I had to run into the restaurant to grab the pizza. After I had closed the passenger door the headrest popped apart. I know that it is a safety feature and only goes off if there is an impact. There were zero impacts or accidents. There was a parked car on the drivers side but no one was in it.

While driving on the interstate the passenger side headrest deployed. My son was sitting in the seat at the time and luckily was leaning forward at the very moment it exploded or this could have been a very different description. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

The front passenger active head restraint (headrest) deployed while the van was just sitting stationary in the garage, not from being rear-ended like it's designed.

I was driving down the road between 45-50 mph when something hit me really hard in the back of my head. I pulled over and saw that my headrest had popped apart. When I looked this up I saw that it is a known problem and part of the headrest restraint system. I was not in an accident, rear ended or hit in any way and the road was a smooth road.
On Friday 9/4/20 while driving my mother home the driver's side headrest exploded slamming into the back of my head! I was driving 70 mph on texas hwy 111 going east, no collision of any kind and out of the blue it exploded.
My wife and daughter were driving in our 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan when the passnger headrest deployed and hit my daughter in the back of the head. This happened while the car was in motion.

The headrest of my 2013 Dodge caravan deployed with no warning. It was front passenger headrest . We were going at approx. 15 mph. My son was in the front passenger seat and out of no where, the headrest deployed.
On 8/15/ 2020 my passenger side headrest went off when the car was parked and not running in my drive way. Now the pad part is sitting forward and the middle is all opened up very uncomfortable to sit . I called the Dodge Chrysler and they took my complaint with and gave me a case number 76999287 in 48 hrs I heard back and they were going to send a inspector out to me to do a report so this happened on 9/3/2020 I met him at are local Dodge dealer and he did a full inspection. So at this time he said he will email me a copy of the report I do not have that at this because it is only been a couple of days.
Our headrest deployed while going down the road. It hit my husband in back of head but no real damage, he just has small bump. The noise startled me but I was able to stay on road.
Passenger headrest deployed without impact to vehicle. Inspection of headrest appears the the plastic structure holding retaining pin has failed, deploying headrest. I believe this happened with the vehicle parked in driveway.
Passenger headrest deployed while driving on a city street.
Both front headrest restraints deployed when car was parked. They are defective and dangerous and Dodge has not recalled them for the 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan.
The drivers side headrest spontaneously exploded while the vehicle was stationary. After getting off work I got in my vehicle which was parked in a parking lot, luckily I took a moment to make a phone call while still parked, as I bent forward to find my phone the headrest exploded, thankfully not hitting me in the head.
The headrest on the passenger seat popped open while I was driving, scared me. Now I am afraid, my drivers side will do the same while I am driving causing a terrible hazard for me. I went to dealership and they said not their problem and wanted to charge me $900 to fix it. This should be recalled. I did not have them do it due to the cost to me.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked an un-occupied, the front passenger's headrest deployed independently. The contact stated that the headrest metal pin fractured which lead to the inadvertent deployment. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 121,000.
The headrest safety feature deployed for no reason. We were not in a wreck and it deployed.
The front passenger headrest popped open. I wasn't driving or even in the car when it happened thankfully. I came out to the car and it had popped. It has been hot here and wondered if that caused it, but if that is the case it is very scary as it makes me wonder if that'll happen to other parts of the car. As is I'm worried about the driver side as that seat stopped working within a month of me purchasing it. And now it isn't working again.
The driver's active head restraint seems to have been deployed spontaneously. I did not witness the occurrence, I noticed the headrest when entering my vehicle one morning. My 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan has not been involved in any sort of collision. I am unable to find any recall information for this occurrence, and I believe that there should be a recall placed for this by Chrysler.
While parked overnight in on street parking in phoenix az, the passenger side front seat headrest deployed without any reason. My van was not struck or hit with or by anything. The Dodge dealership refuses to replace or repair it at no charge. I would like to have the headrest repaired if possible or replaced if repair is not probable. Thank you.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the driver's side frontal head rest deployed after her grandson held on to the headrest for support while exiting the vehicle. The failure occurred while the vehicle was parked. The contact took the vehicle to griffin Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (961 e, us-74 bus, hamlet, nc 28345) where she was informed that a plastic part attached to the headrest fractured causing the failure. The contact was informed that the headrest needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 103,000.
Driving on 6/22/20 on highway, going 70 mph, when driver side headrest popped open. There was nothing near it (except my husband's head) when it popped.
Front driver's seat headrest deployed while vehicle was turned off and unoccupied. Attempt to replace headrest resulted in vehicle not starting.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the front passenger's side head rest deployed and struck the contact in the back of the head. No injuries were reported. The cause of the failure was not determined. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,000.
The driver's active headrest deployed without impact while we were driving on a state highway. It struck my wife in the back of the head. She initially thought that we had been rear-ended. This could have easily caused the loss of control or a collision if we had been in traffic at the time. She has been suffering with headaches since the incident. Our van has never been in an accident and has 77k miles. We have an appointment to take the vehicle to a dealer, but it has not been repaired at this time.
Today while driving, my passenger side headrest deployed (exploded) without warning or cause, nearly injuring my passenger, and nearly causing me to lose control of my vehicle. The sound and force of the deployment was so loud and significant that it shook the vehicle and startled me to a point of panic. When I pulled over I found the passenger headrest had spontaneously deployed. I was driving on a city street, approximately 45 miles an hour, no braking, no accelerating, no road hazards or bumps in the road. Passenger was seated in the seat, seatbelt restraint on, not shifting or moving. Headrest has not had any damage prior to this incident. Vehicle was purchased in November of 2014.
The headrest deployed while driving down a residential street.
Vehicle was parked on level surface after car wash when I opened the door to exit the vehicle the head restraint safety device malfunctioned and popped open. I noticed the black plastic clips that hold the restraint to the metal pin were broken, most likely caused from excessive strain over time.
The driver's side headrest deployed unexpectedly. My vehicle was parked in my garage. The car was stationary, not running and had not been in any kind of collision. When I inspected the inside of the headrest, the plastic brackets that hold the metal pin were compromised. The metal pin is still in place, but the plastic prongs that were supposed to hold onto the pin to keep the headrest in place both failed. One cracked and is partially attached. The other prong came off completely. I believe the plastic broke from being under prolonged tension. Why would something that is designed to be a safety feature be made out of something as flimsy as plastic? I'm so thankful that I wasn't driving when this incident occurred because it could have caused serious injuries. There are many other reports of Dodge customers having this same issue. The active head restraint (ahr) system should be recalled due to safety concerns. The headrest should not deploy by itself. Unfortunately, from what I have read, Dodge is claiming no responsibility and the issue is not covered under warranty. The repair is around $900, but most people can't afford that and don't want to pay it anyway because the problem could happen again. Dodge should be repairing these headrests at no cost to the customers.
The driver side head rest deployed while I was driving. The pin that was holding the headrest in place gave way due to the plastic holding the pin failed. It looks like heat stress on the plastic.
Both of my front seats' headrests have deployed (at separate times), when the vehicle was unoccupied, sitting parked in my driveway. The plastic clip that holds the mechanism closed wore out and cracked open, releasing the headrest. I called the dealership, because this was clearly a defect. They said the entire seat needed to be replaced it estimated $900.
Was adjusting headrest down and it popped out cant get it to go back. Vehicle was stationary as I was cleaning.
The van was in park, off, locked and unoccupied, in my driveway, on a level surface, when the driver side front seat headrest safety system deployed. It was discovered when we were preparing to leave. The plastic tabs on the inside of the headrest appear to have broken, allowing it to move up and forward.

Drivers side head restraint deployed while driving normally causing neck injury.
Passenger side headrest exploded forward while we were driving down the highway. There was no accident. Passenger was hit in the back of the head. This "safety" device deployed in error.
The passenger side headrest deployed without collision. I did not hear it deploy so I'm assuming it happened when the van was parked and I was not in it. Unsure if van was running or off. The reason it deployed is plastic parts that should be attached to metal pin inside broke. Dangerous design! I have read about this issue with many other people's 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan. The $900. Repair cost for these defective headrests is ridiculous! especially knowing it may happen again.
