Filling van up with gas. About a mile after leaving the station car stalls. It now occurs each time we fill up with gas. If we need to get onto the interstate we drive around for about a mile for the car to stall and die before we try to get onto the interstate. Apparently this is becoming a problem with the Dodge Grand Caravan. Dealership said this is happening more and more. Dealership said we have to replace the entire gas tank. Approximate cost is $800. We are handling the stalling until we can afford the $800 to fix a design problem. The fuel filter is in the gas tank and since we never have to replace the fuel filter Dodge thought that would be the best place for it. Brilliant design.

When the gas tank is filling up, the gas nozzle continues to shoot gas out of the tank. This has happened every time we have filled our tank up regardless of what station we were using. Local Dodge dealer said it was not related to the vehicles fuel system or design. This is a big safety hazard because the vehicle builds up a high static charge due to the fabric seats etc. Can be quite a shock which is not good to mix with this gasoline problem.

Chrysler corp notified me to return my Dodge van for fuel filler tube recall service. I made an appointment with arrigo Dodge, an authorized Dodge dealer, to perform the service. After three months waiting, mark norman scheduled my recall service. Mechanic number 269 performed the recall service on 6/7/2000. I received my van on 6/7/2000 and proceded to fill up an empty fuel tank. When the pump's auto shutoff engaged, heavy fuel overflowed under my van. I looked under and saw fuel spilling from a juncture of the fuel tube and two connecting lines from the fuel tube to the main gas tank. This has never happened before during my ownership. I immediately returned to arrigo Dodge's mark norman to complain. He allabied with ". . . Let everthing seat into place. Drive it for several tanks of gas. " the leaking never corrected itself and the fumes radiating from the fuel filler valve continued. Excuses have continued for 17-months. I have been passed back and forth between arrigo Dodge and chryler corp's customer relations for months after I realized arrigo Dodge was stonewalling. Arrigo Dodge also fired my first service writer, mark norman. I went and paid for an independent Chrysler dealer to locate the problem area, just to have confirmation where the leak was originating. I have dates & summaries of my honest efforts to resolve this service fault. On 11/8/2001, I was blatantly lied to by service manager, orlando ferrer, and decided to use other alternatives to correct this service blunder.
Filled the gas tank, drove home and parked vehicle in the garage. Smelled gas, pushed car out of the garage and ther ewas no evidence of gasoline leakage. Took car to the dealer, and was told that the nipple to the feeder line had disintegrated.
Door that covers gas cap easily disengages, exposing gas cap. The gas cap lid broke off.
