At approximately 70 mph on the highway, a loud thumping noise was heard near the passenger rear area. Vehicle was rocking back and forth and became very unstable to drive safely. 4 Tire problem of the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/21/2022

225/65 r 16 100 my van is available for inspection; the left front driver’s-side tire was repaired (under warranty) on 6 August 2022; a plug was installed to repair a ticking sound, which ended up being a nail imbedded in the tire. Once on the road again, I still heard an annoying sound( I realized the mechanic may not have cut the plug flush). I intended to go back to have them cut it off, but forgot due to my recent part-time work activities & starting college at night. (as well as getting covid on 28 September 2022. I was scheduled to work at davanni’s on 21 October 2022. I got into work around 12:33. I use an app on my phone to deliver pizza’ & hoagies. I took a large order around 15:30. I was nervous driving, because my van(previously reported on this site)was having the electrical issues, even when I put my vehicle in park. I messaged my customer when I was 2-3 minutes away(I was extra cautious because my signals wouldn’t show drivers behind me that I was turning, so my 1st text would usually be at a semi-fore, then when I park in driveway, I send a text I am there. The customer had a pretty high incline when I parked. After sending the text I proceeded to exit my vehicle. (my phone was in my right hand). I stepped out with my left foot, then the right; I was fully standing when all of a sudden I felt my door pushing on my left side, I braced my left arm, looked down & noticed the van was rolling back. I felt the tire start to hit my toe then instantly brought my right foot up to step on the brake. In doing so I had my right buttocks wedged against my seat base. I slammed my elbow & ribs onto the threshold of the door and my right arm/pit against the seat. I looked up by the steering wheel where the shift stick is, & realized it was down. I reached up with my left arm & pushed up 2- notches, couldn’t reach park. I texted the person that I need help. He came out swiftly, put it in park & help me arise from my wedged position. I went to er next day.

5 Tire problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 12/26/2018

Kumho solus kh16 tires came on my new 2015 Dodge caravan. Only 21000 miles later, 3 of the 4 tires had pieces of tread chucking off. Two of the tires appear to have splitting in the rim area as if the casing is separating. I was 220 miles from home on christmas vacation when I had all four tires replaced. My extended family has 2 caravans with the same kumho tires and all show the same issues. The tire dealer noted the tires were manufactured in 2014 (p225/65 r17 h100, cab502c, 0261971, 011341sw). After reading other tire reviews it appears there are many safety and wear issues with this tire brand. I could not locate an authorized kumho dealer in the amelia island area the day after christmas but did not care as I would never have this brand on any car I owned after this experience. Really, how can this tire be sold at all?.

The issue is that the the tires were already 2 years old at the time of being purchased as premium new tires at a total cost of $667. 45. So after just 2 years of use we are faced with the cracking and premature wear of the rubber compound causing the tire to become unreliable and subject to a premature failure. At 42,039 miles on a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan my wife experienced a suspicious blowout on a 225/65x17 michelin energy saver a/s tire with a 100t rating. The dot # m33t 00kx 1711. This is a 65,000 mile tire. No foreign objects were struck. The air pressure, tire rotations, and alignments were done in a timely fashion. I no longer felt safe on these tires and replaced all 4 with another brand. This was clearly a manufacturers defect.

13 Tire problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

I was driving on the highway at 60 mph, hit a large (approx 6 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet) wooden shipping crate. The crate exploded, and a board became lodged in the tire well and engine compartment. I also lost power the vehicle - the wrecker driver advised that the board appeared to have disconnected the computer wires. The crate hit on the front driver fender. The airbags did not deploy. I would think hitting something the size of the front end of a car at 60 mph should set off the air bags.

14 Tire problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/08/2012

After getting a flat tire, took car to a tire shop. Found no problem with the tire. The shop showed me the wheel sensor transmitter that was completely corroded. The nut holding it in place had disintegrated, causing the tire to abruptly lose all air. Car has only 23,500 miles on it and has been in use for 2 years and 4 months. I also believe something similar happened to one of the front tires at 17,000 miles, due to constant low tire pressure, even after replacing the tires. But that was handled at the dealership and I was not given the part.

15 Tire problem of the 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/16/2011

Firestone tires split on the side with less than average mileage. I purchased 4 tires approximately 03/10 16 months one tire had 2-3 splits on the side wall. Sears was unwilling to repair or replace the tire. On 03/12 I has a second tire with similar splits and sears replaced the tire because it was deemed faulty. They did not replace the other three tires. This tire model seems faulty and I am making a request that the manufacture replace/recall the tire for safety reasons.

17 Tire problem of the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/16/2011

My family and I were driving down the road on us 30 between ames, IA and boone, IA. There are getting ready to do constructions, so there is a lot of bumps from the frost again this year. We have good year tires on our van, and the back rear tire tread came off and was starting to fray. The tire didn't blow thank goodness since I noticed this issue in a parking lot in ames, I ran over and bought a new tire. These tires had less than 10 thousand miles on them, the other 3 look new, but due to a manufacture error, this could have caused a deadly crash. We have a good year intreage tires on.

19 Tire problem of the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 10/23/2010

I purchased 4 new bridgestone insignia se200 bl 15/65r16 98t 65,000 mile tires on 11/30/09 and on the way home from oklahoma city the front left tire separated. The tread completely came loose from the tire and rubber went flying all over the place. This tire only had approx 24,000 miles on it and it could have caused a fatality had I not been able to ease off the road.

20 Tire problem of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

We purchased a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan in July of this year. It has been a dry summer here in northeastern PA and we have not driven much under wet conditions. Approximately two weeks ago my wife and I were going out to dinner and the roads were wet from a small amount of rain. Everytime we started from a stop sign or traffic light the tires would spin before they would gain traction on the pavement. I was shocked that this was happening, and my wife stated it happened to her all the time. This is not a fault of ours as this has never happened previously with any tires we have had on any of our past vehicles. The vehicle does not have additional horse power as the engine is the same as the engine in the caravan that we traded for this caravan. When we contacted Chrysler concerning this problem their response was it is not our problem, it is the tire manufacturer's problem. But Chrysler is the one who selected this brand of tires to be placed on this new vehicle. Also, when looking up information on yokohama tires on the internet, I came across a web site that contained 8 pages of complaints about yokohama tires. I contacted the selling dealer wotor world of wilkes barre, PA. And they said they would make an appointment for us with the tire dealer when he was at the dealership. It has been more than two weeks and still no word of an appointment. And the tire dealer is less than 5 miles from the auto dealer. The tires are yokohama model avid s33 the vehicle VIN is [xxx] and my Chrysler complaint # is 19735130. While working on this complaint the selling dealer finally returned our call that we placed today and now they are trying to absolve themselves for any responsibility to be of assistance in handling this problem. At this point we do not know what else to do. We are senior citizens and are afraid to operate the vehicle under wet road conditions. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

29 Tire problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/30/2001

We noticed some wobble in the front end while driving during the week, but attributed that to a previously replaced rear bumper and need for reallignment due to that accident. When we stopped for gas on 6/30/01 we noticed that the passenger front tire was very low. We filled it with air and drove less than a mile. At that point, the tire was almost completely flat and we called aaa for service. The tow truck driver removed the front tire and discovered one 6" tear and one 2-3" tear . The tears were deep enough to reveal the steel belts. He said that the tire appeared to be deffective, and that the damage would not have occurred as the result of driving over something. (tiresize: p215/65r15).

31 Tire problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 01/17/2001

Today I had a flat tire, which is really not a big deal. I took the car to a tire dealership to have it repaired. Imagine my surprise when I they showed me that 3 out of 4 of my tires (with only 11,000 miles on them) were separated near the inside rim of the wheel! if it wasn't for the nail that punctured my tire and flattened it, my family and I would be driving on freeways while the tires were just waiting to explode! (tiresize: 215/65 15)( dot number: tire size: 215/65 15 ).

32 Tire problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

33 Tire problem of the 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/01/2000

I took van into said dealership and they told me the rear tires had uneven wear spots and there was no problem with the van and asked me to contact the tire manufacturor with a 800 number. I contacted the local goodyear facility in royal oak, mi. I was told by the manager of the store there that he sees at least 4 or 5 Dodge/Chrysler minivans a week with the same problem. The problem seems to stem from not rotating the tires. I do not believe in rotating tires and never have in the past. On a front wheel drive vehicle, such as my Grand Caravan, you should not have a problem with the rear tires if you never rotate the tires. I had a 1985 Honda prelude with front wheel drive that I never rotated the tires and got 80,000 miles out of the rear tires. I had to change the tires at that point because of dry rot, not wear. Goodyear told me they would not replace the tires since I did not rotate the tires. Here I am, my wife and child ride in this vehicle all the time, with tires that are not even close to being safe. The van vibrates at all speeds and the noise on the highway from the tires is real bad, especially in the back seats. Both goodyear and the dealership agreed that I have bad tires, yet noone wants to take the blame for this and I am really frustrated. (dot number: 089 tiresize: 205/75/r14).

34 Tire problem of the 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan
