4 Transmission Noise problem of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

While driving, the vehicle began making a very faint whining noise. I stopped at a red light, and then the vehicle had trouble accelerating. I was able to make it home, but the vehicle wouldn't make it up the driveway; it kept rolling backwards. After reading over 100 complaints with the same problem, I'm pretty irate to find out there was a recall, but my VIN# isn't included. The warranty also covers the powertrain up to 60k miles and I'm at 61832, just over the warranty. I shouldn't have to replace my transmission on a 4 year old vehicle, when numerous others are complaining of the same problem and other vehicles of the same make/model are under recall.

7 Transmission Noise problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 06/29/2020

When driving in a construction zone on I-71 north a loud whining noise came from the front left of the vehicle it then had difficulty accelerating. I had my foot pressing hard on the gas just to get to 60 mph. The rpm was all the way to 6. The vehicle would slow and speed up with a jerk. Once I arrived to work I parked the car. When I turned the van back on my check engine light came on. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who then had it towed to another location that was able to repair the transmission. I am currently awaiting the full diagnostic. I religiously maintain my vehicle to avoid catastrophic failures such as the one I am having now. So disappointed in the performance of this vehicle as it has been in the shop several time since I have owned it with problems from electrical issues, the side doors unable to open, and oil pain cracking.

8 Transmission Noise problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/12/2020

Was planning trip from st. Catharines ontario to tyler texas and took van in for oil change and 40 point "peace of mind" inspection to my local dealer where always serviced. Emphasized I wanted to address any problems, if any, before I started trip and not while I was travelling. I was within 30 miles of destination in texas, when stopped at a intersection and transmission jumped when accelerating and heard a grinding noise and pulled over. No warning lights at this time just grinding noise. Had vehicle towed to local Chrysler dealer. See service invoice included. Transmission service done the next day and was given the ok. Everything fine during our stay. On our return trip from texas to ontario, no problems until we arrived in columbus ohio, 18 hours later, to re-fuel and when pulling away from gas station vehicle jumped, heard grinding noise again, and engine yellow warning light came on. We did not drive further and had vehicle towed to local Chrysler dealer and did computor scan which indicated transmission problems. See enclosed service invoice. Vehicle could not be driven at this time. Six hours from home. Decided to rent a truck and car dolly and towed van home to our dealer for second opinion. Needs new or rebuilt transmission. This is not acceptable for a vehicle that has only approximately 81,000 miles(or 135,000 km), especially since 2015/2016 Dodge Grand Caravans had transmission recalls, but not vehicle wide. I am looking for Chrysler to step up and resolve this issue.

I asked, "may I speak to the tech that installed my transmission?" he replied, "I'm really busy. . " he walked away while I was asking him questions, without any explanation or repairs. The Dodge dealer installed aftermarket wiring and a fuse on my vehicle without my permission and refused to tell me what it controls and why it is needed. 15 Transmission Noise problem of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 03/18/2016

A few week ago, in the morning when me and the wife had just dropped one of our children off at elementary school, got back into the car, turned it on and started to drive away; the car did a hard jerk motion and then all the lights came on. So the next I took our van to firestone because cause my abs, brake, esp and other breaking information lights came and their was a strange noise coming from the from driver side of the car all at the same time. When firestone tech found the problem he told me that the abs system was faulty and I was also told that Dodge company knows about the problem but is not a safety recall. So for a small part that helps with the safety of my four young children and wife I paid 675 to fix the problem. And at this date and time my van is now setting at transmission shop so that I can find out if the abs going out some how did something to my transmission.

16 Transmission Noise problem of the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

I have had so many major problems with my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan! I bought it used in 2008 w/ 68k miles. At that time the transmission had already been replaced. I had to replace the entire power steering system ($2000), auto window regulator, ac blower, tires, alternator belt, water pump, etc. The engine light has been on for some time now and mechanic says misfiring spark plugs. When serviced for problem(@ 170k miles) discovered original factory sp still in. Horrible corrosion/build up, had 2 fuel system flushes. Light on again. Newest & most dangerous problems,on multiple occasions now, van has completely turned off while driving, idling, and parked. It happens randomly and unexpectedly. More frequently while at lower speeds or parked but once while I was actually driving. When it cuts off the oil light remains illuminated. The car turns right back on. 5 times while driving 25-50mph has gone into cruise control by itself, and I loose control until it decides to give it back! today, for the first time, after parking and turning car off myself, it would not restart. Ignition not responding, no noise, nothing. Tried to jump it and nothing, notices that lights and other electrical components not effected. Fortunately an observer also happened to be a mechanic, he took out the starter fuse and stuck some wires in the socket and had me turn the key, it started!!! he said that it seems there is an ignition communication problem, a. K. A. Computer problem. I have 4 kids that are always with me and this is our only vehicle. If the vehicle is dependent on the computer to function, then I have zero room for communication problems. I have reviewed all of the complaints for this make/model/year, there are multiple complaints that are similar if not identical to mine. I wonder how many complaints have to be filed before action is taken? does someone have to die first?.

24 Transmission Noise problem of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 02/28/2004

I was driving on 95 in virginia in 1998 Grand Caravan le (80,000) , and I heard a banging noise. It sounded and felt like the engine went from the front to the back of the car. There was a puff of smoke in back of me, and the cars behind me backed off. At this point I realized that the steering wheel and brakes did not work. I was able to pull to the right of the highway. It was a frightful experience for all us. We called the state police and they proceeded to call aaa where they towed us into whitten Dodge. All of the fluids had come out of the car and the engine was locked up. Seeing as we were on our way to florida on a Saturday afternoon our only option was to buy another Dodge. We purchased a 2004 Grand Caravan. I have a diary of everything that has ever been done to my van. It was very well kept. Josh a machanic with whitten Dodge went over the whole car and found the transmission differencial pin (that holds the spide gears) in the transmission fell out. This pin along with the spider gears totaled the transmission and engine. Due to this unfortunate accident we got nothing for the car. In closing, I want to say that we were so lucky that we were not smeared on the highway. We strongly feel that major restitution is due in this serious situation. Now I have a 04 Grand Caravan, should I be wary of this van? we would appreciate your immediate attention to this serious problem.

26 Transmission Noise problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Transaxle pin slipped out of position and ripped transmission case open. Transmision was destroyed. Fluid drained out in local driveway. Ealership says will cost $3,100 to $3,400 to replace transmision with, not a new one, but a Chrysler rebuilt transmision. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3 years old . . . 71,000 miles . . . When tranny busted. Dealership preformed $150. 00 powerflush to transmision 1 1/2 years ago with superior fluid that was avert any problems due to original equipment fluid not recomended because of not being good enough. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ amy whitford stopped van in the middle of the road when she thought she hit something (the noise of the transmision pin breaking through the case) and got out in traffic walking around vehicle with 3 young children inside. She noticed fluid on ground and pulled into nearest driveway, where remainder of fluid ran out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am outrage to find that thousands of these exact falures happen with these Chrysler automatic transmisions and continue. The consumer pays the $3,300 price for these known defects after they tear the transmision apart. These failures are dangerous and only ignored because it will cost the manufacturer instead of me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chrysler has made a blunder here and wants me to pay for it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ cameron r. Whitford ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ whitfordcr@bluefrog. Com please email with any assistance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ how do I get Chrysler to own up to this customer nightmare. I will do anything!.
