1 Transmission Pump problem of the 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 05/03/2021

I was driving up a hill on a bridge and all of a sudden I loss power to my wheels of the van. I was almost rear ended by 3 different cars because I could not drive any further. I was left stranded in the middle of a bridge. I got the vehicle towed to a mechanic and the diagnosis was that the transmission pump inside the transmission had gone out. I was told that my exact year and vehicle fit a transmission pump recall for the exact issue. After calling Chrysler's recall hotline, they did a search of my VIN and sad that my VIN number did not match for a transmission recall. And they told me there's nothing they could do about it. After researching online I have found that the 2015 Dodge caravan did have recalls for the transmission pump in 2016. The recall centre told me that it was VIN number specific on the recall and that mine was not going to be covered.

7 Transmission Pump problem of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

On Friday sept 4th I was using my vehicle normally . After turning it off at my home after going to the bank, I attempted to turn it back on to go to work and it wouldn't move into gear. I put the vehicle in drive, but the engine just made a revving sound and didn't move. I tried reverse, neutral, drive and the vehicle only revved. After missing work, we had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop that told us a recall was not including our VIN #. They explained that the transmission pump wasn't getting fluid to the transmission and since it failed our transmission was damaged. We our now facing needing a new transmission. I don't see how there is an active recall that includes my make and year and vehicle type but excludes my VIN. If I had been aware of a recall a small repair could have been made. Now my vehicle needs an entire new transmission. This could have been deadly if my vehicle died in the middle of an intersection. A caravan is sold specifically as a family vehicle. Yet this company is putting my babies at risk. If their transmission pump is bad it's in all the caravans, not just one or two. This needs to be fixed before someone actually gets injured.

Failure Date: 06/25/2019

The vehicle was in motion but wouldnt shift would just take the rpms to 7000. The transmission was getting so hot it was making my temperatures gauge for my engine rise. I pulled off on exit 92 on 81 southbound by the time the vehicle came to a stop I was seeing flames coming out from the floorboard. I bought the vehicle certified preowned but I never recieved a recall for the transmission pump as it shows there is one on this website. My vehicle is a total lose and it completely burned my vehicle by the time the fire department got there.

19 Transmission Pump problem of the 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

I was driving home at night, around 35mph. All of a sudden the transmission and rpms went off the charts, all the way up to 7000rpms, any sort of acceleration by tapping the gas pedal caused the vehicle to malfunction. I had my daughter in the car and tried to get pulled off to the side of the road and get the vehicle stopped. Once I got it stopped it was undrivable at this point and had to call a tow service. My local mechanic deemed it to be the transmission pump went out while I was driving. No warning, no lights, nothihg. Now the van is at the Dodge dealer for inspection. I was told that Grand Caravans had a recall on transmission pumps between the dates of July 31, 2015 and April 18,2016 (mine was manufactrured October 2015) even though it falls in those dates, my VIN# was not attached to the recall. (s44 is the recall number, also the NHTSA campaign number is 16v461000) this was a serious malfunction, and could have been more serious if I would have been driving just a little faster. At one point, the vehicle kept accelerating without the gas pedal being pushed. We were lucky I was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road. Once the van was shut off, there was a burning odor coming from the vehicle. I have looked and found several others with the same issue as mine, who were not included in the recall and should of been. Hopefully an investigation will open soon, before someone gets seriously injured.

21 Transmission Pump problem of the 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/03/2005

At 9,000 miles, took van to dealer complaining of the transmission slamming into gear. Dealer performed a "quick learn" on the trans. And it was fine. At about 27,000, problem started again but this time they replaced the front pump. At 30000, same problem again, replaced transmission pump a second time and also replaced seals and gaskets. Back in dealer now for same problem but delaer is claiming that cannot duplicate the problem.

22 Transmission Pump problem of the 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 08/15/2004

Transmission failure at 42,000 miles. Problems with transmission shudder, TSB 18-05-94. I had brought the transmission shudder to the dealers attention starting at around 32,000 miles. Dealer said they could not find anything wrong. They re-flashed the computer, etc. Van was brought back to dealer twice before 36,000 mile warranty expired. Brought the van back at 37,000 miles to complain again and dealer proceeded to tell us that they have no records of any prior complaint regarding the transmission, therefore they would have to charge us to re-flash the transmission. (I will never lose or throw away any warranty related receipts again). After going back and forth and getting nowhere we paid the re-flash fee and once again the they told us there was nothing wrong. Then at about 42,000 miles the transmission blew. This after the dealer told us on a minimum of 4 occasions the transmission was fine. After some "polite" negotiation I got the dealer to cover half of the $1300. 00 repair cost to replace the transmission pump. Of course they didn't cover the flatbed & rental car expenses. I have never owned a car that I have had to repair or replace a transmission and I had driven most of them well over 100,000 miles. I do not understand how Chrysler can get away with this. With all of the disgruntled Chrysler customers on the internet I can't beleive the NHTSA isn't investigating their transmissions. Who is paying off who?.

23 Transmission Pump problem of the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Failure Date: 07/20/2003

In 2002 I purchased a new Dodge Grand Caravan sport. The vehicle has been in my possession just under a year and has approx. 20,800 miles on it. This vehicle has already had 2 major repairs to systems that affect the safety of the vehicle. 1. Power steering hose recall 2. Transmission pump failure. In addition to these repairs there was also an extended warranty placed on the a/c unit because it is expected to fail, replacement of the stereo and repeated repairs to the front carpet pulling out at the corners. The carpet has been "fixed" however now the emergency brake assembly is protruding on the driver floorboard.
