Loud Engine Noise problems of the 2002 Dodge Intrepid

1 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Dodge Intrepid. While driving at an unknown speed, the oil light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact's father-in-law installed a new battery. The vehicle restarted and the contact pulled back onto the highway. She immediately heard a loud noise coming from under the hood and pulled off the road. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic and the contact was informed that the failure was due to excessive engine sludge that caused a rod to snap in the engine. The mechanic stated that a new engine would cost $5,000. The failure and current mileages were 89,000.

2 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2006

: the contact stated while driving 50 mph a loud noise was heard coming from the engine. The vehicle slowed and another loud noise was heard. It was pulled off the road without incident. The engine restarted; however the vehicle would not go into reverse and would only operate at 10 mph. It was towed to an independent repair shop where the transmission was replaced. One month later while approaching a stop, the vehicle vibrated and the engine overheated and failed. The vehicle was towed back to the independent repair shop where the engine was rebuilt. The manufacturer has not been alerted.

3 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2004

While driving 25 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Suddenly the vehicle stalled. Consumer restarterd the vehicle, and it was taken to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the engine blew out, and needed to be replaced.

4 Loud Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2004

While driving 55 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the engine. This caused vehicle not to go over 5 mph. Consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
