An oil plug front left of engine block blew out pumping oil onto catalytic converter. Open flames melted wheel well, back bumper, and fuel hoses off of gas tank. Fire went out went all the oil was pumped out of engine and car stopped moving. I contacted Chrysler safety, they referred me to Dodge customer care; they initially created a case #31892226 but then sent a letter saying they were not responsible because the car was out of a three-year warranty period and also unspecified environmental factors. Although my wife and son were almost immolated, it wasn't important enough for them to check into. The car remains parked at a local garage awaiting investigation.
Car won't go into park. Has to be started in neutral. Car has tendency to roll. Wheel(s) has to be blocked. Stationary.

The car has major engine problems like all the 03 2. 7 l eng se. Connecting rods is falling out, and etc. The car is unbalance. I took the car today to find why the oli light was coming on when the vehicle thermostat rises. Turn out the engine isn't allowing the oil to reach the upper part of the engine and that is causing my vehicle to overheat and make noises on startup. And also when you reverse you hearthe car make a bad knock sound and feel the vibration. This car only has 86000 miles and the mechanics could only shake their heads. This car should be in better condition then this. Anyways, the cost for new engine with warranty is over $6000. And that includes everything! now who has that type of money and why didn't Dodge recall this problem on the 03 Dodge Intrepid??? all I want is the engine replace and Dodge could do that at any of their companies or auto lots. I'm a simple person. I just want to work and be at peace.

In October 2015 I bought a 2004 Dodge Intrepid from a private owner/dealership. I didnt even have for a wek and was on highy doing 60 m. Ph. On hwy and all of a sudden pwered down and turned off and steam coming out from under hood. I proceeded to get out of middle lane to breakdown lane. (very dangerous) when car not running. Let it cool off and drove home and brought to dealer. Dealer could not figure out what was wrong. Sent me on my way. Weeek later was back there again with overheating issue again. Still said could not find out whats wrong. Very frustrated I took car home. From there it ran for like a month and then started overheating again. I had noticed that sometimes when I drove I could tap gas pedal and temp indicator gauge went back down. Weird. Did some ressearch online when this first happened and saw alot of people having issues with this car and previous engine 257 was in a lawsuit for bad engine. Said then engine I have 318 was supposed to be better design but still saw alot of same issues. I finally had to take in becasue it started having starting problems. I did not take back to dealership cuz would have not made it that far and I wanted a second opinion. They found a weep hole in water pump that was leaking and a cam sensor problem which he state had a service technical bulletin. So I called Chrysler and they said need to take back to the dealer to identify that issue . She checked my VIN nr at Chrysler and said that in 2012 the cam sensor was replaced . But still have that issue so said dealer will have to request Chrysler to do again. . . This car looks great inside and out but these issues are resonant in numerous cars. This is a dangerous situation if shuts down or overheats while driving. Chrysler needs to do something about this and should have never sold these vehicles with this engine.

The car was driven into the driveway and put the car in park. He got of the car and opened the gate. At that time, the vehicle slipped out of park and began rolling down the driveway. It hit the curb, then a small tree on the front lawn of the house across the street and finally came to rest on the front stoop of the said house.
My car just went from fine to not fine. I felt like it was in 2 gear while driving it. So I had to pull over stop it and make sure I was in the right gear and I was but it wouldn't shift to drive. Stayed in 2 gear. Then check engine light came on and I got two codes. Po700 and po871. I love my car but cant pay thousands of dollars for the repair. This should be recalled, because to many people are having the same issues. Dodge should stand behind there cars or people will stop buying them.
I was driving to work and all the sudden my car started dinging and I look down at the lights and my over heat light was on and my car temp was all the way at high. I took my car to ntb to get an oil change and had just filled my coolant the day before. Ntb had to fill my coolant again that next day. I picked up my car and was on my way home and my car started dinging and it was over heating again. So I pulled over. Let it set for 20 min even with the heat on full blast. And before I even made it home which was not even 10 min away it over heated again. I opened the hood and look and no coolant. Now this is the 3rd time in 2 days of filling it up. Had it towed to a shop. Water pump went and timing chain and the water pump housing at the top cracked. Sad thing is I just bought this car not even a month ago because my other cars engine blew.
The contact owns a 2004 Dodge Intrepid. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when it rolled away from a residential driveway and crashed into a mailbox. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised the contact that the gear shift interlock needed to be replaced or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 140,200.
My 2002 Dodge Intrepid has had many problems since I bought it roughly four years ago. I was informed that it had a rebuilt engine and transmission. Just recently it has been having problems shifting out of know where. I was at the stop light and when it turned green I pressed on the gas and it did not want to go. I let up the gas and it kicked in to first gear. When I am driving and getting up to about 30-35 mph it would go up to 3rpm and not shift. I do regular oil changes on both the transmission and engine. This problem can cause an accident because the car is just doing whatever it wants to. After reading all these other complaints it is very similar to my problem. I am understanding now why Dodge stopped making Intrepid. I am very disappointed and will never buy Dodge again.
Car was running great, without any indication of problems. Car died and would not start. Resulting in engine failure.
My vehicle started having problems in September of 09, it was stalling on highways. I would lose power out of nowhere. It also would randomly accelerate forward, for lack of a better word the car would just buck back and forth. I received a recall notice (j18) that word for word explained what was going on. Took it to be fixed, problem still persisted. I then brought it to my personal mechanic, they informed me that the recall did not remedy the problem which is the cam shaft position sensor. One year later and I am still dealing with the same problem. The recall notice says that eventually your catalytic converter will fail. I am almost at that point now, I brought my car back to my mechanic they informed me of all codes that came up on the scanner. I have since called the Chrysler company filed my complaint and got no where. My case manager said I had to have Dodge determine if my cars problems were truly the same as the recall stated. I got charged $95 for the exact same thing my mechanic told me for free, which were the codes that came up for my Intrepid. I am officially are my wits end with the Dodge/Chrysler company. No one can give me a clear answer, how each problem described in the recall fits the description of what's wrong with me car but yet they claim they are not responsible. How can this be? if there is a recall and their answer to the problem does not fix it and the problem continues is Dodge not held responsible for their faulty parts? so now I am stuck with a car that randomly bucks back and forth, stalls on the highway so that my life is in danger and or just doesn't start. Please help!.
: the contact stated the transmission dropped into first gear when traveling 65 mph which caused the vehicle to stall. This has occurred on 6 occasions. The dealer and manufacturer have been unable to duplicate the problem.
I was driving home from having body work done, the engine light came on, then 3 seconds later the motor stalled. I put transmission in neutral and started the engine and drove for 50 feet before it happened again. This time engine would not restart. I pulled off the road and called the company that did the body work. They retrieved the car soon after. Subsequently, was told my engine failed due to lack of maintenance, ie; oil change.
There is no summary currently available.
The vehicle had problems with the transmission, it only went into 2 gears.
The shifter cable broke, which caused the transmission to lock up.
Check engine light illuminated and transmission locked into 2nd gear. No speed displayed on speedometer.
This car was brought over from canada and then sold to us by auto nation. When we went to register the car with the sales contract which states the make of the car as a Dodge we had some problems because it is a crysler. Now we have a problem where the odometer is only tracking . 6 for every mile traveled. We are not sure how long this has been a problem. This is not something that you would normaly think to check. How ever, this would indicate a problem of how many actual miles are on this car. We are speaking with auto nation and they seem to think that this is not there problem. I feel that this is fraud on there part. When this car was brought from canada some one did not adjust the odometer correctly. I would like to see some action on this. Thank you for your time. Traci sutton.
