Dodge Journey owners have reported 1 problem related to brake light switch (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Dodge Journey based on all problems reported for the Journey.
This issue occurred regardless if the car was in motion or stationary. It also occurred if the motor was turned on or not. The license plate light was out, but it was not a bulb issue. The center rear brake light (on the tailgate) was out, but it was not a bulb issue. This is a safety issue. The tailgate wiper would not return to the home position when turned off. It would remain wherever it was when the switch was turned off. This was a visibility issue. The key-less entry fob would not unlock the car doors. This was not a fob battery issue. This was very problematic for passenger doors which could not be unlocked from inside or outside the car. This was brought to a dealer for repair. They diagnosed the car with having split wires in the lift gate. I am concerned that split wires could have caused a short and eventually a fire. Additionally, a short could have caused other electrical systems of the car to fail while in motion.
