Came out to my car this morning, 09/06/2020, to find the headrest had deployed. The car was parked in our driveway over night. I had driven the car the day before and the headrest had not deployed. There were no accidents to cause this.
Drivers side headrest snapped apart while the car was parked in my driveway.

Front passenger side headrest spontaneously popped open while stopped at a red light. No one was in the passenger seat, nothing hit the seat or headrest, no sudden hard breaking occurred and nothing hit the car. Nor was there any form of accident before or during this incident. About 6 months later, the driver's seat headrest spontaneously popped open while my husband was sitting in the seat. The car was in park and was not running. Same as with the passenger side, nothing hit it, the seat or car. Nor had there been an accident at any point.
Passenger side head restrain is deployed/broken. Came out to car in morning and head restrain was split open. Appears to be broken tabs and cannot be reassembled. Now have a broken head restrain on passenger seat. Seems unsafe. Not moving, not not occupied.

I was driving adown a city street and the passenger seat headrest deployed without any cause.
The vehicle was stationary and turned off, the headrest to the seat was found deployed and the plastic clips broken off. Headrest is not able to be repaired without replacement. The headrest is quite powerful, and if was in the car was in motion when this happened could have caused serious injury or an accident.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving about 35 mph, the front driver's headrest exploded and separated without warning. The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000. Fe.
I was driving in my 2010 Dodge Journey when the driver head rest deployed. . . . . No event caused the painful ejection. I almost hit a semi coming in my direction. There are many testaments to others experiencing the same flaw in their Dodge Journeys. It should be recalled. . . . . . Who knows if this causes accidents and it just appears as though it was a result instead of the cause. The dealership that sold this car is unable to help me. . . . . . The repair is my sole responsibility. Completely negligent of Chrysler/Dodge,!!! I could have been killed and still have the terrible head pain 2 days later!!! I feel as though others need to know of this danger. Nothing was even touching the headrest when it deployed. . . . . . . . My head wasn?t even touching it. The force was so hard I hit the steering wheel!.

After reclining the seat, the passenger's side headrest deployed. At the time the vehicle was stationary in a parking lot. Not sure why that happened. Don't know what to do about this, take it to the dealer or what. Is there a recall on the headrests?.

The front passenger headrest deployed for no reason. The car wasn't even running when it happened.
Passenger side headrest deployed while vehicle was parked & unoccupied.
Driver side active head restraint deployed while stopped at stoplight. Fortunately was sitting forward enough it did not hurt my wife. From closer inspection it appears plastic gave out allowing active head restraint to deploy.
Went to get into my Journey and noticed the passenger headrest had been deployed. The vehicle was unoccupied and sitting in my garage. The vehicle had no reason for it to deploy.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that upon entering his vehicle, the passenger's side head rest deployed without warning. The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Drivers headrest exploded forward and hit me in the head while driving in my neighborhood.
The headrest popped out and won't go back in while I was driving on the highway. No sudden stop. Just driving as usual and it popped out and will not go back in.
The passenger side headrest deployed for no reason. The car was not on and it "popped" without anyone touching it and thank god noone was in the seat at the time. But yet I have a Dodge dealership trying to charge me over 400. 00 to rest a headrest. Really Dodge???.
I got into the vehicle shut the door and the head rest popped open it hit my head so hard my neck hurts from my head being thrown forward the vehicle was not moving it wasn't even started yet it was parked in my driveway I had to take off the headrest so I could drive it.
Driver's side headrest deployed for no reason while sitting in the parking lot at work. No one was in the vehicle at the time.
While adjusting drivers seat headrest deployed. Small plastic pieces broke that hold a bar in place.
The driver's seat headrest deployed while the car was parked. No collision, it was just touched with a hand.
The headrest exploded while the vehicle was in motion and without the vehicle being impacted by another car.
The active headrest restraint deployed for no apparent reason while driving straight on a city road.
Driver seat headrest deployed out of nowhere while parked at my house and won't close back.
The passenger headrest is deployed or sprung out. The plastic holding the metal pin is broken. It happened when the car was parked.
I was riding down the highway by myself and heard a loud snapping noise. I looked towards my passenger seat and noticed that the headrest had ejected from its casing. I have called the dealership and was told that I would have to $500+ to get a new headrest. This is highly unexceptable and dangerous. I can understand if I damaged it or got into an accident, but no one was sitting in the seat when this happened. If my wife would have been sitting there, we would probably be at the hospital with neck injuries considering the force that it ejected at. Dodge needs to fix this before this happens to someone who is driving and causes an accident or even a fatality.
While parked and sitting in my vehicle I heard a noise that sounded like someone was adjusting a seat. When I looked into the noise I noticed my drivers side headrest had separated apart and I was unable to reattach it.
I was driving straight down the highway, approximately 40-45mph, when I heard a loud noise in my car (bang) then felt the front left (driver's) headrest hit the back of my head. Upon further observation, I realized that the headrest had deployed on me. I was not hit nor was anything touching the headrest. I called the dealership and was quoted over $400 to replace this safety feature in my car.
While driving straight to work last night,I heard a loud pop. The pop was almost as loud as a gun going off beside my face. It scared me,because I was unsure what had just occurred. I looked over and noticed my headrest on passenger side had popped in half and unable to be pushed back into place. Luckily,my oldest child or husband wasn't with me,or it would probably would have caused an injury,or at least some soreness. I'm not sure if this is a recall, but seems like it should be,especially if nothing triggered it. Please ensure this issue gets sorted out. Thank you for your time.
The airbag in the drivers side headrest just deployed for no reason. The vehicle was stationary when this happened.
My driver side headrest deployed while driving. I was driving and heard a noise and when I got to the stop light I noticed it had deployed as was fully open. Clearly this is a defect in manufacturing. Look at the Dodge Journey forums and you'll see many others have this issue. That is why I did a search on recalls and came across this site and so many others have the same issue, so Dodge we are waiting on you. Ps that is properly why my check engine light came on. .
Upon entering our vehicle, we noticed that the passenger headrest had deployed. We have not been in an accident, had not moved the seat or even tilted it forward. This appears to just have happened overnight, while the car was sitting.
