1 Brake Disc problem of the 2002 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 05/22/2004

I own a 2002 Dodge Neon. I have had the brakes inspected several times, the rear wheel bearings went bad while the vehicle was still under warranty, and there is still a problem with the brakes. Even though there is ample fluid and wear left on the pads, my brakes make a horrendous metallic squeal when there is moisture in the air. Not only is this embarassing, but how in the world am I supposed to know the difference between this noise and the classic symptoms of brakes that truly do need replaced. Are there recalls on this model of car for this reason? I am ready to trade it in at a loss just to be done with it. Westgate auto in plainfield is no help. I have had better service at my nearby midas shop. I like the car, but the manufacturer needs to correct this problem. Three people I work with have the same issue with their Neon, no matter the year.

Severe shimmy at speeds above 30 mph. Car is two years old with 18k and has only been serviced by the dealer. Was told by dealer that it needed tires rebalanced. Had tires rebalanced at 18,197 miles. 21k problem got worse, was told by dealer goodyear tires were no good and needed brake rotors turned. Pads were fine, metallic pads cause rotor warpage in just a few miles. Repair estimate on a two year old car is $495. 00. No warranty on brakes or factory tires.

5 Brake Disc problem of the 2000 Dodge Neon

Failure Date: 09/07/2001

Driving in our car we experienced a loud noise from the right rear of the car, took it to our local goodyear mechanic, he stated and showed me that the calipers were not funcitioning correctly in the rear, both inboard brake pads were metal to metal while the outboard pads were like new. Thankfully we heard the noise so a brake failure did not occur. Upon taking it to the dealer they stated this was abnormal and a problem, but not covered under warranty, no replacement or service to the calipers were made. I am now waiting for it to prematurely wear out again. The dealer exclaimed that he had never seen a car wear out that quickly on one side of the pads. I believe it is a caliper failure, confirmed by the goodyear service person.

13 Brake Disc problem of the 1996 Dodge Neon

My brakes squeek all the time. I've had the brakes cleaned to remove access dust and build up. . And also had the front brake pads changed. This has all happened within the last 4 months. I also notice all my realives/friends experiance exactly the same type of squeeking that my car suffers from. If there hasn't been a recall, this should be considered. I don't know how dangerous this is, but it is at the very least, annoying and very very noticable. It happens in all types of weather conditions. Wet/dry, cold/warm etc etc. Any feedback you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Rich martin.
