This power lost is consistance when going over railroad track or slope and dip motions. It been like this with power and stability since it was purchase new from the dealer. I'm the owner. I was traveling up the highway when all of my service lights illuminated and I lost complete engine power. I attempted to get my vehicle to the turning lane but it was difficult because of loss of power steering. I got it to the turning lane and tried to restart it several times. This lasted about 15-20 mins to no avail. My vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. I then took my vehicle to the local Chrysler dealership in the next town where they also could not duplicate my incident. The kept my vehicle for 2 weeks and still found nothing wrong, no codes or anything. My brake lights were also staying illuminated even after they unhooked the brake light switch. The dealership contacted the Chrysler engineers for more help in diagnosing the problem. The engineers stated that they were 90% sure that it was the tpim (main computer). The same tpim was recalled in 2007 and was supposedly fixed. The tpim was not replaced due to uncertainty of the engineers and the dealership. I have had this vehicle since April of 2007. The vehicle stalled again on October 2, 2013, and October 8, 2013. On October 8, 2013 the vehicle would not restart for 10 minutes and was once again on the highway traveling at a rate of speed of 50 mph.

I drove to the nearby mall, parked my Dodge Nitro, locked it, and went inside to do some shopping at radio shack, I came back out and got into my vehicle, inserted the key and turned the key when I heard a very loud thump from the front of the engine compartment. I had no electrical power. I got out of my Nitro and popped open the hood and looked inside and saw that the battery had exploded, both caps had blown off and the top of the battery was cracked wide open with battery acid pouring out. This was a very loud thump when I turned the key. I am so thankful I was not checking my power steering fluid or something like requiring the engine to be started, I could possibly been seriously injured. I call the Dodge compliant line and made a complaint. This was a Dodge factory installed battery. I have pictures of the battery. I ruined a good shirt and pair of jeans getting the battery out. I replaced the battery and so far the Nitro is doing fine. I would like some form of compensation from Dodge for clothes that got ruined and for replacing the battery. This could be a serious problem and dangerous one.

Numerous times over the past few months I have pulled out of my driveway or out of a parking lot and my vehicle has stopped running, forcing me to pull over quickly before my steering locks up,which then requires me to put the vehicle in park and restart it. The vehicle was taken to my local Dodge dealership on April 5th,2012 and on April 6th,2012 I was told they could not find a "code" to explain the issue and unless they kept it for several days to attempt to duplicate the problem there was nothing they could do. The vehicle actually stalled pulling out of a parking lot on the way to the dealership at a low speed. The vehicle does not stall at red lights while idling, only when pulling out onto the roadway. I have great concerns that I will be rear ended in an accident if this issue continues.

My truck has a tendency to stall when at idle speed. Happens on an intermittent basis. I first took it to allen samuel's Dodge on 610 freeway in houston, TX. They could not reproduce the problem, suggested throttle body service which was perform. Didn't correct the issue. Took it to gilman Chrysler on 59 sw freeway in houston, they couldn't reproduce the problem. Within the past two years have had fuel injector service, spark plug replacement and fuel pump replacement in an attempt to correct this issue, all at the above dealerships. Vehicle now has about 75,000 miles. Problem still exist on an intermittent basis. I am afraid that it may stall in traffic while at traffic light or freeway traffic jam which could lead to injury or death. It is my understanding that the 2007 Dodge Nitros were recall for the same problem. I showed the dealers the recall form safecar but their comment was that my vehicle was not recall and since they were not getting any codes my problem was different. I disagree, it has to be computer software as with the Dodge Nitro 2007. I bought the vehicle new in 2008 and am the only owner.

I purchased a 2007 Dodge Nitro slt 4x2 on February 23rd, 2007 from san marcos auto outlet. Since buying it has stalled out while driving 4 times. It has stalled out at lights, parking lots, etc. While driving. However, it got much worse as on the fourth time it stalled out at 70 mph on the highway and than came back on. My daughter and I were very fortunate to not get seriously injured. This could have been fatal. We took it into the dealer 4 times and they can not get it to fault the same way. We refuse to put ourselves at risk in this vehicle and we told the dealer we want our money back. It is still sitting on his lot with no resolution at this time. We are working on this situation still with the owner. We have no plans of taking the car back.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro slt. Since its purchase in February o 2007 the vehicle has been in the shop several times for random stalling. After the first couple of occurrences the vehicle was taken to the shop. The mechanics were unable to diagnose the cause of failure. When the vehicle was taken to the shop for failure again the contact told the mechanics to test drive the vehicle for a day in hopes that they could duplicate the failure. The mechanic obeyed , and called the contact the next day. The mechanic stated that the cause of failure was determined, adjusted, and repaired. Two to three days after the repair was performed all of the instrument panel lights illuminated, the vehicle jerked and stalled, and finally shut off. After approximately 40 seconds she was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle returned to the shop two days later where it currently remained. The contact met with the general manager of the dealer and made him aware of the failure. The current mileage is 4,200, and failure mileage was 560.
