Dodge Nitro owners have reported 5 problems related to fuel hoses lines/piping and fittings (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While attempting to fill fuel tank, the nozzle shut off as normal when tank was full, however gasoline shot out of the filler neck all over my pants and shoes. There was probably a pint to a half gallon of fuel that shot out of the tank. I have checked on line and determined this is a common defect with the 2007 Dodge Nitro. This now occurs each and every time I fill the fuel tank. Someone is bound to be seriously injured or killed over this situation, why has there not been a recall on this issue.

When filling up with fuel the tank will overflow spilling out approx. A gallon of fuel. This is a safety hazard. It also indicates that the shut off valve isn't working properly and that the safety feature of shutting off the fuel line when in a serious accident will also not work therefore being a huge safety concern.
Upon refueling the vehicle, the gas hose is not triggered to shut off immediately and allows about a half of a gallon of gas to overflow onto the vehicle and the ground. Whether the hose is being pumped manually or triggered to stay on does not change this outcome.
I own a 2007 Dodge Nitro 4x4, bought it in 2010 since buying it I have had persistant problems with filling the tank. It seems that when I would fill the tank to the point that the pump shuts off I would have fuel shoot back out and down the side of the vehicle and on the ground. Excuse but do we not see a serious problem here? took the vehicle to dealer first they replaced a canister located in the fuel tank. Did not fix the problem. Then they checked the fuel tank vacum line for kinked line again not fixed. Finally they determined the roll over valve is faulty so they replaced the tank out of my pocket. My mileage was only in the 30,000 range and the warrenty was expired. I have read hundreds of other complaints abuot this very subject and still Dodge refuses to make this right. There is no recall on this problem any where and I would think Dodge would want to make this right. Did they not learn from toyotas mistakes. Complaints include 2007 and 2008.
2007 Dodge Nitro. Every time we refuel the Nitro gasoline overflows out of the fill line, leaving gas down the side of the Dodge Nitro and on the ground. We used other gas stations pump nozzles and still the same, gas everywhere. It don't matter how fast or how slow you fuel it still overflows.
