1 Tank Assembly problem of the 2010 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 01/27/2014

Bought this car 40 days ago from a big dealership. Supposedly they have this vigorous inspection of all their used vehicles. . . Apparently not. We cannot fill our gas tank to the full level. Everyone we do it spits out a ton of gas, not just a little a lot!! brought it back to dealer for our 90-day warranty & naturally the warranty doesn't cover it. They think the problem is the filler neck not letting out the air for the gas to go in so it spits it all out. Cost to repair it . . . $500 in hopes that is what the problem is. You would think that with this being a major safety issue Chrysler would pay for it. Called Chrysler customer service & they said they can't do anything for me. I guess we just run the risk of catching something on fire before anything is done about this issue. Hopefully someone doesn't get killed over something that should have been recalled many times over. Good luck to everyone's ne with this issue.

2 Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 12/07/2013

There is an issue with the fuel tank/ valve in this model Dodge vehicle. Every time I go to fuel up I have to guess the number of gallons it will take before I stop pumping in fuel, otherwise fuel will spill out all over the side and the ground. This happens every time I fuel up, no matter the gas station or type of pump or fuel grade. Spoke to Chrysler llc. They stated that it was not on the recall for my year vehicle but it was for the 2007 - 2008 models. Why is it not on the recall!???!!! I was told I would have to pay for this issue out of pocket as it is not covered in my extended warranty. This is a factory defect. It is a safety concern and health issue, not to mention environmental. This needs to be on recall immediately. It is ridiculous that it is not already.

3 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/28/2013

The last 2 times I filled my fuel tank in my 08 Dodge Nitro rt it spills out all over the ground. This occurs when the pump stops. . . Then the tank starts to spill at least a half gallon of gas gets all over my truck and the ground!!! this can be a safety hazard at the fuel stations for myself and others around. A simple spark due to a faulty ground in the area could cause this to ignite and be potentially fatal. I feel Chrysler should be held responsible for this and a safety recall be issued. Many people have had this problem and it appears that the powers that be are not enforcing Chrysler to make this a recall issue. I guess it will take someone to become severely injured or killed before anything is done about it. Chrysler has a TSB (14-001-09) in regards to this issue so they know it is a problem and they continue to want to charge customers to fix the issue. Someone needs to do something about this ASAP!.

4 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

While filling the gas tank, my husband was covered in gasoline. I purchased the vehicle 2 weeks ago and it happened to myself, but I thought it was the gas pump that I was at. My legs were covered in gas and I had a cut on my leg and the gas was in my cut and burned terribly. My husband is a volunteer fireman and I am an emt. We will be using this vehicle to respond to real life emergencies. I am very concerned that it may cause injury to myself and others. This is most likely caused by a valve in the gas tank that is there to prevent an explosion in the event of a rollover accident. The valve is defective, and thus the gas spills out, and my car could possibly explode in a rollover accident or if on an emergency scene it could be hit and cause and explosion. .

5 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 01/23/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel sprayed out of the filler neck onto the ground. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. 6 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 04/06/2012

Gas spills out when filling tank. By the time the auto shut off on pump stops, gas spills out and on the ground. Has happened at several different gas stations.

7 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 03/21/2012

As I fill the tank the pump will shut off and after a few seconds it the gas has a large splash back from inside of the tank I consulted a mechanic and he stated that it is the roll over/vent valve inside of the tank and that it does not open and close correctly and that the only fix for it is to replace the entire fuel tank at my expense. This creates a safety hazard in two ways when fueling the car, ground and the operator should not be covered with gasoline at any time second if the roll over valve fails then it should be a failure of the mfg and should be replaced.

8 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 03/20/2012

Gas tank overflows at every fillup.

9 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 03/13/2012

When filling the gas tank, the gas will spew out as the tank gets full. The gas gets all over the side of the car as well as the ground around that area. This is a well documented problem on Nitro forums and the cause is known to be a faulty roll over valve in the tank. The only fix is to have the tank completely replaced. This is a known defect and safety concern and the owner should not be responsible for the replacement. This is not sanitary or good for the car. The exact same problem was recalled on the Jeep liberties but not for our Nitro's, which have the exact same tank. This is a serious health and safety risk, please help us Nitro owners out.

10 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 02/25/2012

Upon filling up gas tank, I have had gas shoot out at me from the filling nozzle. I have tried to remedy this situation by slowing down as I am coming close to filling my gas tank at 18 gallons and I still have gas pour out of the vehicle and onto the floor. When filling gas tank you can hear gurgling sounds coming from the fuel fill nozzle. Major concern of fire hazard as well as possibly being splashed in the face with gasoline unexpectedly for other buyers.

11 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 02/20/2012

When the gas tank is being filled up and the nozzle at the pump shuts off indicating the gas tank is full, about a quarter gallon of gas spills out of the tank.

12 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 02/07/2012

When I filled my gas tank and the fuel nozzle had shut off gas overflowed and spilled out of the filler neck. My understanding is that this is do to a defective air vent in the fuel tank. I understand that the air vent in the fuel tank is to protect the gas tank from exploding during a vehicle roll over. If the air vent is defective then I would assume that the gas tank could explode during a roll over.

13 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

There is a valve in the gas tank that's prevents gas spillage in the event of an accident and the car rolls over. This valve is defective and now my vehicle spills gas whenever I gas up automatically. This means that the safety valve is inop and if I rollover during an accident the gas will spill out. This has been happening for a while now and I just googled the problem and everyone that has this vehicle is experiencing this problem. There should be a recall cause e en the dealer told me it is a common problem and Chrysler is aware of it. How can we eel safe driving a vehicle with a potential life threatening malfunction.

14 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 01/10/2012

When filling up at the gas station on several occasions, the overflow did not function correctly which let to gas spilling out on to me and the area around the fuel tank.

15 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

2007 Dodge Nitro. Consumer states problem with vehicle gas tank the dealer informed the consumer the gas tank was most likely installed already broken or improperly. Thus, when filling the tank, the air differential inside the tank that forced the pump to shut off automatically did not register due to the defect. 16 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

Gasoline overflows every time I fill the tank. It occurs without "topping off" and without warning. Approx 0. 5 gallon sprays out with moderate force on the person, car, and ground. I have found that this is a known and common malfunction with Dodge and Jeep vehicles.

17 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 12/18/2011

When I fill my tank up gasoline will overflow and spill onto the side of my car and onto the floor.

18 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

When I fill up my tank at any gas station, I will put the gas nozzle in the gas filler neck, and have it fill up. When the gas tank reaches it's maximum level, the gas nozzle will automatically 'click' off, however, the gas will overflow out the gas filler neck and spray out all over the ground and down the car, I'm thinking that something so flammable as gasoline spraying out and dripping on the ground and down the car is a huge fire risk. . . . Am I wrong?.

19 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 12/11/2011

When filling the gas tank, gas backs up and pours out of the tank spout. This isn't exclusive to filling up the tank entirely. This causes a concern as it sprays fuel on the individual pumping the gas and leaves a spill at the gas pump.

20 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 12/03/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, gas spewed back out of the filler neck. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the roll over valve within the fuel tank was defective and as a result, the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.

21 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

When filling up my gas tank the pump stops and then the gas overflows all over the car and on the ground.

22 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/26/2011

Gas tank overflows during filling process. Sometimes the pump shuts off and then overflows, and sometimes the auto shut off doesn't work and the gas spews until shutoff manually.

23 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/25/2011

The problem is filling up my gas tank. Every time I go to fill up the pump shuts off and then about one half of a gallon (maybe more) comes gushing out of the tank all over my vehicle, the ground, my shoes, and whatever else may be in the way. I have read online that it is a default in the gas tank Dodge puts on these Nitros. Its supposed to be a safety thing in case the vehicle were to roll over. But we are talking about a highly flammable liquid just pouring out of my vehicle and onto me and the ground. I am not under warranty anymore, as I bought this vehicle used, but I really don't think I should have to pay to have something like this fixed when Dodge knows that it is a defect. Thank you for any help!!!.

24 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/18/2011

When filling up at a service station, gas will now flow back out causing significant spillage over the side of the car and on the ground. This may be caused by a faulty sensor in the gas tank which regulates overflow and prevents leakage in an overturn accident. Initially I thought it was due to cold weather but it is continuing during warm weather. This is a safety risk with gas spillage which may lead to fire and/or other damage.

25 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/17/2011

My last 3 or so gas fill ups have resulted in gasoline gushing out of gas tank upon the gas nozzle shutting itself off. The first couple of times I didnt think much of it but this last time I was holding the gas nozzle when this happened and before I knew it I was soaked in gasoline. This seems like a huge concern along the lines of the old GMC gas tanks that would explode upon an accident.

26 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

2007 Dodge Nitro, fuel spills out of tank when filling up vehicle. Gasoline stations pump auto shutoff won't work with vehicle causing fuel to come splashing out when full.

27 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

While refueling gas will overflow onto the truck and ground. This happens every time I refuel now. It does not matter how much gas is in the tank, what gas station, time of day, winter or summer, the result is the same fuel overflow.

28 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

Every time I fill up the gas tank the nozzle never clicks off no matter what pump or gas station I use or go to and gas will just pour out of the tank spout, even after I pull the nozzle out, some gas will still pour out of the tank spout.

29 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/24/2011

I am writing this complaint due to the fuel valvue system being a defect. There has been so many complaints regarding the fuel system such as when your pumping gas it is overflowing due to the fule valve not working properly like it should. This is a big safety reason due to it shuts the fuel off if the car are rolled over which may cause serious injury to whoever is involved. My car only has 38,500 miles on the car and is used. I got it a year ago and it did it to me twice when I first did it but then havent done it since the last 5 fuel ups and now it is over flowing every time. They have recalled the jeeps due to this problem but they have not the Dodge Nitros. The Dodge Nitros have the same fuel tank in them as the jeeps so what are they waiting for. For someone to get seriously injuried or even die because of this problem. It get it repaired cost over 1,000. I got it used and the dealer isnt even willing to cover it. I believe they should recall the Dodge Nitros for the fuel system due to the seriousiness of this because I know I am goign to be having a newborn very soon and the safety is very high and if they do not get recall I will be getting it fixed since now a days the people who sell these products dont care about their customers anymore.

30 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/21/2011

The gas tank overflows when filling. The auto shutoff on the gas tank is faulty, this is a problem with the same year Jeep libertys with the same tank. The 20" chrome wheels flake and corrode even when kept clean and out of the elements. This must be fixed!.

31 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

When filling the vehicle with gasoline, the auto shut off does not work. This is very dangerous, as it overfills and fuel spills out all over the vehicle and the surrounding area. I have learned that this has something to do with the vapor valve in the fuel tank, and is even a bigger problem if the vehicle was involved in a rollover, as the fuel would come spilling out of the tank. Took it to the dealership and they told me that I would be responsible for replaing the fuel tank. This should be a recall, as Dodge has had this happen before on other models.

32 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/10/2011

I bought this vehicle used in October of 2011, so I only know the problem started with my first gas tank fill up. After each and every "fill up" several ounces of gasoline leak from the tank area. . . This does not come from the hole where the gas pump nozzle goes, it seems to be leaking from beneath that point. This is problematic because the entire bottom left portion of my vehicle is bathed in gasoline. Upon researching this problem I have found that many other Dodge Nitro owners are experiencing the same problem. My gas attendant also has told me that this seems to be a problem with the Dodge Nitro and a few models of the Jeep. His suggestion is to never fill my tank to full again. That is not a solution, there needs to be a recall issued and Dodge needs to take care of this problem, now!.

33 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/05/2011

2007 Dodge Nitro, fuel spills out of tank when filling up vehicle. Gasoline stations pump auto shutoff won't work with vehicle causing fuel to come splashing out when full. Chrysler knows about it and will not repair without charge unless under warranty.

34 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

When I am filling gas tank, the automatic shut off does not work, and fuel pours out everywhere. I have been covered in gas several times as it suddenly overflows and almost seems to shoot out. It does not happen every time, started about two years ago but seems to be happening more frequently.

35 Tank Assembly problem of the 2008 Dodge Nitro

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated that when refueling, fuel would spill out of the vehicle. The dealer was notified of the failure who advised replacing the fuel tank. The manufacturer was contacted who provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 33,500.
