The vehicle throws the abs, esp, break and traction control lights and then while driving completely at random then turns off while driving!!!! which can cause an accident (I and my daughter are lucky to be alive) this is not ok the vehicle drives fine then at random throws those lights and shuts off after restarting it the check engine light comes on and says the transmission shift solenoid b is malfunction and the vehicle wouldn't shift properly. Luckily I had my code reader I. The car with me I cleared the code and now the car drives fine until this happens again I'm scared to drive it this is dangerous their's no warning. I drive on the highway everyday their's no warning it happens at random 2 times I've been lucky. No codes came up driving after clearing it and the car drives fine now but it's happened 2 times while driving this is extremely dangerous and I don't know what to do because with the codes gone the issues are gone but they randomly all the lights mentioned above come on and then the car shuts off with no warning then when you restart it it throws a different code for a different problem the first time was a low voltage code I cleared it and even tho my battery tested good I replaced it and two days later the same issue and a different code.

While my husband was driving home from work, the drive shaft of our vehicle completely snapped at 50mph causing him to come to a complete stop. There is a recall specially specially this on the 2008 models and after this incident we believe it should for the 2011s also.

I noticed a few months ago my dash lights and radio lights at night when I turn my headlights on would flicker on and off several times then stop and do it again repeated process. I never got it looked at so just the other day I was driving and my windshield wipers, my emergency flashers and my driverside window and the back passenger window was all going crazy my widows was rolling up and down my flashers was going off and my wipers wouldn't turn off so I immediately pull over fearing of causing an accident with someone due to not being able to focus on driving once I pulled over my horn started blowing like crazy it was weird so I cut the vehicle off and everything kept doing what it was doing so I popped the hood and killed the battery. I waited maybe 10 minutes and hooked the battery back up and seconds later my horn only started going crazy again so I had no option out of the safety of me and other vehicles on the road to just have it towed back to my house I have been researching it and I've come to find out that there's several others with Dodge Nitros that have had the same issue as me. The tipm module (fuse box) was bad. I have yet to be able to drive my vehicle as it would be very unsafe and I've not yet got it towed to the dealership to look at it for reasons of what I've seen other complaints had to say about there experience at the dealership. . There needs to be a recall on the electrical malfunction as it is a huge!!! safety concern for everybody. Please do something about this.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 139,000.
Since I purchased the vehicle in 2010, it's had strange electrical issues. First, the door locks have been malfunctioning. After a couple of uses, they no longer respond to the remote, or door lock button. Nor will they automatically lock while the vehicle is in motion. That's very dangerous. The second issue is that the horn would randomly honk. The honking stopped for about a year. Tonight, the honking started at random and wouldn't stop. The key wasn't in the ignition and the car was parked. I had to remove the negative battery cable to avoid a visit from the police for disturbing the peace. The third issue is that the airbag light came on. Yet another strange issue. When starting the engine, there will be s long start as if the starter stays engaged for too long. Sometimes , the engine will start, not idle and just stop. The engine has started and barely had any power and would barely move.
Premature rust through of oil pan and trans. Pan. Due to defective materials. Will leak and cause a possible fire and or loss of control of the vehicle.
The tpc power box that has all the fuses in it. Is malfunctioning causing the wipers four way flasher and horn ,headlights chimes, 44 switch and all the dash sensors to go off. Which is causing the transmission to studded when shifting it is a major peoblem.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was contacted at 800-247-9753 and stated that they would not repair the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 288,000.
Failure of drive train and transmission at 94,000 miles. Authorized Dodge dealer shop is saying $13,000 to fix.
Had new transmission pan installed at dealer; now have a shudder when at 28-35 mph and at 38-47 mph. Shudders like you ran over a rumble strip.
Windshield wipers went out unexpectedly, cv axel boot tore, transmission shifts hard.

When accelerating my vehicle I bought two days prior (used), from being a a stop light, it jerked/ wouldn't accelerate rpms went very high, made a grinding sound and the check engine light came in immediately. When able to pull the car into a parking lot to assess what might have happened I noticed it dumping transmission fluid had to have vehicle towed.
The car with lock and unlock doors by itself and flash lights on and off, causing the vehicle to be inoperable when this happens during driving and when parking. We were already told the controlmodule needs replacing but because this is not a 4x4 it is not covered in the recall. Then the brakes stop but not fully and will cause a slide backwards if not held down while in motion, on an incline, on street or ramp. The throttle light and the antilock brake light comes on while driving, while turning, on streetand highway, causing the car to stall in traffic, while moving we have almost been rear eneded a couple of times. We see several recalls that would relate to our problem but all have been identified for the 4x4.
The heat shield did come part way off during a drive. Had to remove it and replace it. Amazingly it didn't cause a wreck.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated there was an explosion that occurred under the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle elevated with the driver and passenger in the vehicle. The driver side air bag failed to deploy. In addition, smoke emitted into the vehicle and flames appeared underneath. The driver's seat belt failed to release. The driver sustained bruises to the left arm, back, and neck injuries that required medical attention. The rear passengers also sustained bruises and neck injuries that did not require medical attention. The driver and passenger were able to exit the vehicle. A police report was filed. While driving on asphault and dip, slope, and curve, the vehicle wanted to stalled and looses power. Brake light for entire ride. This power lost is consistance when going over railroad track or slope and dip motions. It been like this with power and stability since it was purchase new from the dealer. I'm the owner. The suspension system is the worst, it feel like you going to roll-over when there's a dip on the roadway.
This problem has happened to me 3 different times. And the last time was back in November 2014. While I am driving my vehicle stalls, my brakes lock up and my steering wheel looses power with the rest of my car except my radio. This is extremely scary because I am putting my life and others in danger. And Chrysler says there is no problem because it doesn't show up on diagnostic. But when you pull up recalls and defects. The problem is right there. When this problem happens. I have to turn off my keys and restart the vehicle for it to work again. But you never know when this is going to happen there are no warning signs.
This situation has happened quite a few time and has escalated over the time period. The first time I walked out to my car. I pressed the key to unlock it and the horn started honking, the windshield wipers and spray was going and the lights flashed. This lasted approx. 5 seconds. And stopped. The next incident occurred while driving down the fwy. Same symptoms occurred, but this time lasted approx. 30 seconds then stopped. The third incidence: same symptoms but would not stop. I opened up the hood, for some reason slapped the fuse box and it stopped but when I went to drive it would not shift from 2nd to 3rd. Gear. This kept happening with increasing frequency and duration. I took it in to the dealer. As I was waiting in line to check in, it happened. Everyone was stunned and amazed, and laughed at my possessed vehicle. Now they can't get it to happen while it is on the computer. It has been almost 2 weeks and I still don't have my car.
Vehicle has a new transmissio now. Fuel backfires out the tank everytime I go to fill up the tank. Then,my insurance gave me a recall list to have it taken in. Took it to the Dodge dealership numerous of times and same problem occurs and they say in they're database its not showing anything on my VIN number. Air bag light goes on and off allday. Car beats and airbag light blinks on and off and is very annoying. A/c compressor is now out and working on getting it replaced but other than that everything is going perfect.
While driving no matter what the speed the car kicks back. It could be when it's moving to the next gear or just on a gear it kicks back hard. Took the car to mechanic no issues with transmission every one is stumped as to what it is. Nothing comes up on diagnostic. The other issue that started with the above problem is that the car turns off on it's own. It could be while you are idle or backing up, parking or even in the process of stopping at a red light. I almost hit the car in front because the breaks locked up after the car just stalled while I was stopping the vehicle. Again no one knows why this is happening. Very dangerous. I've avoided several accidents. I live in a place that has lots of hills so if this car turns off while breaking/slowing down going downhill I can hit the car in front. Breaks lock up because car is turned off so I have no way to stop car but emergency break and hope that it works quick enough.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Nitro. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, where the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 13v121000 (power train, air bags, structure); however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I started the car to move it in the driveway. After backing up, I put it in park. I then tried to place it in drive, and the shifter lock wouldn't release. (it normally releases when the brake pedal is depressed. ) after a few tries, I attempted to turn off and restart the car. When I turned the ignition to restart the car, all the electronics activated, the headlights were flashing, the horn was cycling, the wipers and sprayers were running, etc. I turned off the ignition and popped the hood release. When I got out and walked to the front of the vehicle, I noticed light coming from the hood gap. When I opened the hood, flames were surrounding all sides of the tipm unit, and the hood insulation liner was on fire. I disconnected the battery and was able to extinguish the fire.
