Brake Drum problems of the 1996 Dodge RAM

Six problems related to brake drum have been reported for the 1996 Dodge RAM. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 09/03/1999

Bracket for the emergency brake cable has fallen off due to nuts on the bolts securing the bracket becoming loose and both falling off. Nuts are located behind the gas tank and are not accessable unless the gas tank is removed. Emergency brake not operational.

2 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 12/25/1996

Brake drum failed.

3 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 12/02/1996

Rear brake drums causing, severe vibration ( out-of-round). Replaced but exhibiting identical symptoms.

4 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 07/04/1996

Ongoing problem with rear brakes adjusting at least 5 different times. Brakes fail to work. The self adjustor does not work. Had to have them manually adjusted.

5 Brake Drum problem

Failure Date: 04/15/1996

Rear brakes failed to stop vehicle when brakes were applied. Front brakes working fine. Sometimes front brakes lock up. Took to dealer & was informed rear brakes functioned fine. Found no problems.

6 Brake Drum problem

Consumer was driving and applied the brakes vehicle could not stop, took to dealer, replaced the rear brake shoes and turned the drums . . Consumer states the rear brakes work for about 30 miles after dealer has replaced them , however then one has to stand on them for any braking power, consumer states that the front brakes are beginning to wear now due to they are the only ones operating on vehicle.
