Two problems related to front seat belt buckle assembly have been reported for the 1996 Dodge RAM. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle was involved in a collision. The passenger side safety belt had come unbuckled when the collision occurred. The consumer was traveling down the road at approxiamately 30 mph with his/her daughter buckled in her child restraint seat on the passenger side. A young man was backing out of a driveway claiming he didn't see the vehicle and impacted the passenger side. Upon impact, the passenger belt had unbuckled, putting the daughter and her seat to the floorboard.
Ongoing problem with driver shoulder belt continuing to tighten upon driver while driving. Driver would have to unlatch belt buckle to get it to release itself. But, problem kept reoccurring. Also, driver's seat moves whenever brakes are applied in a sudden / emergency situation or when jerking the seat back and forth. Dealer refused to repair because vehicle was out of its warranty, and not covered under a manufacturer's recall.
