Speed Control Cable problems of the 1996 Dodge RAM

1 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2001

Consumer contacted dealer in April for a recall 01 v 037 000 repairs of throttle cable, but parts were still not available.

2 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2001

On January 26, 2001 during an inspection, I noticed several frayed strands on the accelerator cable where it emerges from the sheath near the injector pump. I bought a new cable that same day and noticed it is of a different design than the original. If there was enough of a problem to cause a redesign of the part, it seems DC corp. Should have notified the owners. With the powerful torque of this engine, this is a definate safety concern as it would be hard to bring it to a stop should the cable fail at highway speeds.

3 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2000

Intermittently accelerator cable became frayed/ getting jammed into the cable housing, causing vehicle to accelerate suddenly and unexpectedly. Dealer has been notified and will inspect vehicle.

4 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2000

Recall 01 v 037 000/throttle cable: dealer / manufacturer is telling consumer that this recall does not exist; asking NHTSA help in this matter.

5 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2000

Throttle cable on vehicle had frayed with one or two strands of wire holding throttle. Contacted dealer recall 01v037 was issued regarding this problem, however consumers vehicle is not included due to the plant where vehicle was manufactured, dealer replaced cable and lever at consumers cost.

6 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 11/01/1999

Consumer took the truck in for valve adjustment, and mechanic told him that the thottle cable was getting ready to break. So consumer had it replaced.

7 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 09/01/1999

Throttle cable frayed once at 70mph. Dealer has been notified. . Cruise control cable also frayed.

8 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 07/21/1998

While driving on the freeway and towing a trailer the throttle linkage jammed all the way on. I had to turn the ignition off to stop. The throttle cable had become frayed inside of a sheath on the linkage cable and jammed inside the sheath.

9 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 07/07/1997

Acceleration cable frays at attachment point of fuel injection a vehicle collision.

10 Speed Control Cable problem

Failure Date: 04/29/1997

Driving slowly attempted to stop at stop sign vehicle accelerated from 5mph to about 40mph . Rear tires broke traction, left about 65ft of acceleration skid marks and ran into a wall.

11 Speed Control Cable problem

The throttle cable failed, causing abs and brake lights to be illuminated, also caused cruise control to hunt, consumer tapped to disengage cruise control and the accelerator stuck.
