Seven problems related to brake disc caliper have been reported for the 1998 Dodge RAM. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle pulls to the right when applying brakes. Also, defective brake calipers. Brakes have already been replaced twice, and need to be replaced again. Factory reps are supposed to be there while vehicle is being repaired.
The brakes pull left or right. Most likely due to weak calipers. The experts I've talked to indicate my one ton 7000 lb truck has the same single piston calipers a little isuzu rodeo or Mitsubishi has. It's horrifying to think this big truck has no more brakes than a 2000 lb little car. The $2000 'damage' is a repair estimate for new oem parts -- which the dealer has replaed. It still pulls. This is a safety issue. Sometimes it pulls hard enough to cause a lane change. Have had near miss of head-on collision.
I am experiencing a brake pull problem. This is an ongoung problem and Dodge technical representatives have acknowledged a problem with the front brake calipers. They have not offered a solution yet. You will receive a number of similar reports over the next few days from folks with the same problem. This is a safety issue that affects the truck and occupants and possibly other folks on the road. Excessive wear of rotors/pads, and calipers. Problem commenced at 6,270 miles, again at 21,000 miles, and reoccurred at 33,000 miles. Dealer informed consumer that they were done with repaires.
Brake pulling problem, however there is no consistancy as to when, starting at about 20000 miles 10/28/98, I have had it back at least 10 times, dealer has replaced calipers/ pads/steering box, and shims between right front rotor and rim. They now have a 5mm shim and say the next step is a 7. 5 per their TSB. I don't like this shim business and the inconsistent braking pattern.
Pulls serverely to left & right. Rotors/calipers/pads all replaced # of times, still pulls.
Intermittently when brakes are applied on wet pavements they lock up, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has replaced front brake pads three times, and brake calipers once. Manfacturer has been notified.
