Four problems related to brakes failed have been reported for the 1998 Dodge RAM. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle brakes failed. Scc ph.
These are the last two of the seven incidents of total brake failure for this vehicle. All incidents occurred at speeds of 25 - 60 mph. 6 of the 7 were during normal stopping conditions; 1 emergency stop. When stepping on the brake pedal there is no braking action. The pedal does not go to the floor. Stepping on the brake pedal 1-2 more times and the brakes then grab. 1 incident failed to stop at a stop sign; 1 neccesitated veering out of lane.
The front brakes on this truck failed to work evenly. A sever pull to the left, resulting in a near jack knife situation and collision with on coming traffic. I immediately took the truck into the dealer. They have been unsuccessful in repairing it and state that only 5% of the trucks in this model do that, therefore Dodge will not recall and the warranty will not cover the repairs. Dodges answer is to "live with it". This problem is significant and a definite safety hazard. I request a representative contact me immediately about this situation.
Brakes were failing to properly hold vehicle or slow vehicle down while attempting to stop at any speed. Dealership has examined vehicle, and could not determine cause. Please provide any additional information / attachments.
