Ten problems related to tire have been reported for the 1999 Dodge RAM. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tire problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2003

Consumer was informed that all 4 tires were split/cracked all the way around the center in the exact same spot. Consumer then took the vehicle to the dealer who advised the tires were defective, consumer requested a refund for the replacement tires.

2 Tire problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2002

On 14jun02 I replaced the original equipment tires with new ones. At that time I was informed that there was something wrong with my van. I was shown where the original equipment rotor ,on the left front tire, was too large a diameter for the wheels. The tire had to be forced off and on. Since I had the tires rotated both wheels were now warped. In forcing the t he wheels onto the rotor, the lugs appeared to be damaged. They also told me that an inordinate amount of weights had to be used to try to balance the wheels. I believe that this can be a problem and since this is all original equipment, I believe Dodge should take responsibility. I contacted Dodge and was told that this was my problem. I don't know what other defects may be associated with this defect. Thanks for all the help you can provide.

3 Tire problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2001

Two front tires were completely bald, wore out excessively. Have very little mileage. Rear tires have hardly any tread left. Original equipment. Michelin ltx as p245/75r16. A service manager from a tire store stated that the tires on this truck were not designed to go on a truck, but for a car, consumer replaced all four tires.

4 Tire problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2001

Consumer was traveling 55-60mph when rear driver's tire popped off the rim. Consumer swerved across 3-4 lanes and managed to get to shoulder of road. There was no blow out, it deflated. Tires are aftermarket, no more than 2 weeks old. Consumer was driving a199, Dodge, Ram van. Tire size is p235/75r1, dot# & VIN # will be added. Tire was a firestone steeltex r4s, consumer states that dealer discovered a hole that had penetrated through the entire tread.

5 Tire problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2000

Original equipment tires at 16,000. Severe blowout, multiple splits and chunks of rubber missing in 4" area of outer side wall. (tiresize: 75r16 p245)( dot number: tire size: 75r16 p245 ).

6 Tire problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2000

This was brought to my attention by another owner of the same vehicle. I was advised that my front tires were bald. I checked them and found they were ok. I had already replaced two of them in less than two years. Turns out the person advising me had also done so and there was still another person (we all belong to the same church and drive the same vehicle) experiencing the same problem. The front tires are wearing excessively and the dealership is aware of the situation but has elected to do nothing about it. The wrong tires are being sold with this vehicle. I was told they finally got the dealership to agree to the fact that they were the wrong tires and they replaced them with truck tires because the van is on a truck chasis. I'm on my second set and have fewer than 25,000 miles on my van! (tiresize: p235/75r15).

7 Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/31/1999

Invicta gl tires were on my Dodge Ram conversion van when I purchased it new. The tires were worn to 4/32 in at 8050 miles. When I took the van to goodyear they stated that they were passenger car tires and that they do not belong on a vehicle of the Rams size and weight. All the vans on the sales lot were equipped with the invictas. A cheap ,soft and unsafe tire for conversion vans as stated by marty hayes, goodyear manager. 716-873 1400 e( dot number: tire size: 235/75r15 ).

8 Tire problem

Failure Date: 05/01/1999

Tires (goodyear wrangler rts p265/75r16) are not sufficient for vehicle, several flat tires while traveling over gravel/stone. Mjs.

9 Tire problem

We currently have 16,637 mile on our 1999 Dodge Ram van. In recent weeks we notice that the front and rear tires were worn down to the radial bar. In addition, there are several air bumps forming on all four tires. Withe recent firestone and Ford problems, I took the van to merchants tire and auto where I normally do business. They informed me that the tires were shot, are a saftey concern and should be replaced. I then took the van to tire warehouse to get a second opion on the tires. Again, I was told that the tires were in very bad condition and should be replaced as soon as possible. I called the goodyear 800 number to request my rights and in what direction I should go, but I was only given the run-around and switched brom operator to operator. My concern with this tire is that on the side of the tire it states that it has a max weight of 2,293 pounds. Given that the van is a half ton, and has added after market conversion package, it is possible that the weight exceeds the limit. I asked Dodge about this concern, since they sell the conversion van, and I was told that it is possible that the tires do not meet the current weight of the total van package. My question is, are there other reported incedents with this tire and vans, or with this tire in genereal. Also, do I have a legal recourse against either Dodge or goodyear to pursue in order to get my tires replaced before an accident . I use the van as my primary source of transportation and I transport my teenage kids and sometimes their friends, on a daily basis. Thank you for any cooperation in this matter. (dot number: 265928 tiresize: p235/75r15).

10 Tire problem

When going around curbs or corners, vehicle would slide or slip. Taken vehicle to tire retailer, and was informed tires were 75% shot and going bald. Had no edges to tires. Cords and steel belts were not showing. All tires needed to be replaced. Goodyear, invectus gl, p235/75r16 with 21,288 miles.
