The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram. While driving approximately 35 mph she heard rattling in the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on two separate occasions. The front stabilizer end links and the shock brackets were replaced. Also the tie rods were replaced at an authorized dealer. The technician stated the failure was related to the recall under NHTSA campaign id number 09e001000 (steering;linkages). However, the VIN was excluded from recall defect. The failure mileage was 25,000. The current mileage was 41,000.

2004 Dodge Ram. Consumer states problem with front end of truck. Consumer describes a shimmy and shaky motion
the consumer stated when she drove over a rough spot in the road or a bump going off a bridge in cruise control mode, the entire truck would shimmy and shake. Once the consumer tapped the brake to disengage the cruise to slow the vehicle down, the shake and shimmy would cease. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer where they performed maintenance to the front end, but the fix only lasted for a few months. The consumer was informed the vehicle needed u-joints, a damper and the fittings needed to be lubricated. Also, the drag linkage which was recalled needed to be replaced as well.

Track bar, premature excessive slack in steering, hard to keep in own lane especially on uneven paved surfaces( steering wandering). Rear axle u-bolts, loose on inspection causing shaking from the rear axle during acceleration and deceleration, bolts were retorked & problem reaccured after 20 miles, the bolts were loose again.

My wife was turning vehicle around in driveway when steering broke loose resulting in a complete loss of steering control. Fortunately this did not happen on the highway at high speeds. Mechanic informed me that cause might have been, "a bad batch of locktite. " service manager later told me the bolt was tight and that this sort of thing should not happen.

2004 Dodge truck. Consumer states problems with steering linkage the consumer stated when the steering linkage failed it caused in inadvertent turn into the path of an oncoming truck. Fortunately, the consumer was not going very fast and no bodily injury occurred to either driver, but the damage to his truck was extensive. The consumer also mailed in a copy of the recall letter for the exact problem he experienced. Recall # 09e001000.
Bolt in steering arm separated, causing loss of vehicle control. Dealer has been notified.
